Turn off the system and install the Nvidia card. Reboot and install the latest Nvidia drivers and see if that doent cure the problem.

Should've mentioned that too, I always use DriverCleaner, so ATI driver remnants weren't present (I hope). Anyways the 9600GT works with 174.74 drivers in my main rig (Asus P5B-E mobo), so at least I know the card isn't defective. I'll try putting it back in the AsRock board later and trying out different beta drivers. If that doesn't work, I guess the Xpertvision brand just doesn't play nice with the 4Core mobos.

Was thinking of getting this board, will it work with the new 45nm Wolfdale proc.
or does it need a BIOS flash beforehand to do so??? Thanks in advance...

The Wolfdale in question runs on 1066 FSB but I think your right in that it's not supported
(yet), too bad the E7200 looks like a sweet CPU for $135 clams..

Although obviously not possible to run at 1333, modded bios version 1.93a is supposed to make 4coredual-sata2 properly recognise a E7200 ?

Brokencase,

Do you have the cpu temp sensors working with gkrellm ? If so, how ?

Yes I do. I also have core ,3.3,5.0,and 12 voltages and two fan speeds displayed.

Download and install http://www.almico.com/speedfan434.exe
Start speedfan and then minimize it. Gkrellm uses speedfan to get the sensor values.

Next, fire up gkrellm right click title bar -> configuration. Select sensors..
Enable the lowest sensor indexes first and wait a few seconds for the main gkrellm window to update (it looks like it refreshes the sensors every few seconds).

I suppose you can launch speedfan and gkrellm in startup and it should take all the work out of it. Haven't done this yet.

It looks like temps 0,1 are case temps ans 4-7 are core temps. Not sure what 2-3 are..
But other than that it a pretty decent monitoring program. Don't you think?

I connect 3 pin of my cpu to increase voltage to 1.55 but my cpu volt change between 1.532 and 1.456 (E4500@FBS267)

Why drop voltage is too high?
May this problem solved if I solder a 100kohm VR ?
What is the maximum voltage if I use a100kOhm VR?
Can it damage my system if I turn it to zero?

Damm, I just ordered a 65mn E4600 last night! Is that a hacked BIOS? the Asrock
website does not officially support Wolfdale. Oh well I'm still running XP2700 so I'm
sure it will be a huge boost anyway..

Could be poor connection, could be voltage droop.

My calculations based on the voltage regulator's data sheet suggest about .1 v increase for each 40k-50k of resistance added for R-offset, so 100k would result in an increase of a little more than .2 volts. I have a 100k ohm potentiometer ready for my Vcore mod when I get around to trying it out. Damage if pot/VR is set to zero would be none, as this would return circuit to VID programmed CPU core voltage.

Hi guys...

Wow! Nice to see this thread still alive. I see Newegg still has a ton of these boards.
Sorry if this was covered in previous pages, but I have some questions:

What is the difference between the original 4CoreDual-SATA2 and the new 2.0 board? All I could find was that the 2.0 board only supports 6 speakers instead of 8 like the original, and I *think* Core2Quad CPUs were listed as "officially" supported.

- What are the real differences? Just 2 less speaker sound output?

Also, while helping my brother in law with an upgrade to this board, I got a free bump from my E2180 to an E2220. I have it overclocked from 2.4GHz to 2.7GHz (225 BUS).
I'd like to try the BSEL mod. Where is a good place to get the conductive ink/paint that people use for this? Is it something I could pick up at Wal-Mart or something?

Yeah, thats it. The 2.0 board uses a cheaper sound chip, thats all AFAIK. Core2Quad CPUs were listed as "officially" supported on the original version too.

Pep Boys (and some Advance Auto Parts stores) sell the conductive "Rear Defogger Repair Paint", but its $11 for the teeny tiny bottle, and it will dry out fast. I just used a carefully cut piece aluminum foil to do my bsel mod. And a teeny tiny dab of superglue on the edge of the chip board to hold it in place. Works fine.

Does nobody bother searching any more ??

The 4COREDUAL-VSTA bios that supports a C2D E7200 is 2.30d !

Oh, I see. Sometimes I get too lazy. And my German sucks, but I'll take a look, hehe. Thanks for the tip.

Right now I'd just settle for this blasted 9600GT to work in the Dual VSTA though, grr.

After reading many suggestions for setting the IDE DRIVE STRENGTH to HI or Ultra Hi, I did so (many suggested this setting with overclocking). Am using a 2.0 version mobo. This seemed to cause a bunch of disk controller errors on startup of winxp, and only during startup it seems. I returned the IDE Drive Strength setting to default/normal, and these errors went away (for 3 days now). Looks like that setting may not be a good option for everyone. The system event log errors were as follows:

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk0\D.

and

A parity error was detected on \Device\Ide\IdePort2.

My HD (Maxtor 80 Gig) is partitioned into 3 partitions, 1 primary, 1 extended partition with 2 logical drives therein.

Am using the default winxp drivers for the IDE interface (have no sata HDs), but I think I had the same errors with the VIA driver, which is why I switched to the default/MS driver.

Hope this helps someone.

I've got a PNY 9600GT in my 4CoreDual VSTA and it works fine. No issues immediately after install and/or after having it in for ~6 weeks. What issues are you having?

Yeah, pretty nifty little program. On my e2180, it looks like temps 3, 4 are the core temps.

Lower resistant=higher voltage
This mean setting potentiometer to zero cause more voltage!

Computer locks up seconds after I log in to Windows (XP SP2) after installing drivers. The card is OK since it works fine in my other rig. What driver version are you using by the way?

My apologies, I assumed you would be using this approach (which, imho, is a superior approach to the Vcore mod you linked to):

http://forums.vr-zone.com/showthread.php?t=192571

If using the volt mod you link to above, then yes, a VR set to zero is not good!

Use the Voffset approach I linked to above as it is vastly safer and superior.

What is the cause of Vdrop?
I Solder a 100k VR and increase Vcore to 1.584 but on full ORTHOS load it drop to 1.488
May this due to Power supply?

Not that soldering is very dangerous. it destroy the 860 pf capacitor and I change it whit a 1.0 nf capacitor.

Well, seems I can't do 300 MHz FSB with the 9600GT. Dropped to 266 (E2160 is now @ 2.4 GHz), and seems OK. Gonna go upwards until I hit the wall again. Hm... Too bad, but I guess that's one the quirks of the AsRocks.

It could be a voltage drop. What card did you have in there before the 9600GT ? The 9600GT is probably sucking more juice from the psu, and your rails may have dropped.

I had a X1950 Pro 512MB (AGP). According to tests, those two cards are pretty close in power draw.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/images...512gs/9600gt_power.gif <- 9600GT

http://www.xbitlabs.com/images...00pro/pc2600_power.gif <- X1950 Pro

Another difference between them was than the X1950 Pro had two molex connectors, meaning that on my triple rail PSU, the graphics card was drawing juice off the same rail as the CPU. The 9600GT is now on its own rail (PCIe), so you'd think it'd be more evenly balanced power wise.
