Been reading around for awhile now (BTW: the overclocking advice in this thread helped me some time ago, thx ) and think I can go with an EVGA 512-P3-N802-AR GeForce 8800GT Superclocked 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814130319 ). It has the G92 core which I think means I won't have to flash the cards bios? I am using Asrock's 2.0 bios.

I want to go with a card that I can use later when decide to upgrade this thing.

Thanks in advance.

All original supplied G92 based 8800Gt's were incompatible with Asrock "VIA" chipset motherboards. The problem was resolved by a subsequent manufacturer provided 8800gt Bios upgrade !

I believe EVGA were the first to introduce the Bios upgrade solution, so their cards were originally recommended as best solution for people using "via" chipset mobos?

Of course, these days, most manufacturers should have introduced the bios upgrade fix, which means in theory it shouldn't matter whose card you purchase?

Only clue to "fix" being implimented by manufacturer is that the bios of a EVGA 8800gt 512mb card should be rev 62.92.24.00.xx series (or higher), and a MSI 8800gt 512mb card should have bios rev 62.92.23.00.xx series (or higher)?

As previously indicated, your MSI8800gt 512mb card should work ok in a 4coredual-sata2 mobo if it's bios revision is within the series 62.92.23.00.xx; or higher?

Lovely is right! I've got 2 8800GTs (1 512mber and 1 256mber) and 1 9600GT in PCs right now. Good thing I've done the on-line registration so I have a LONG warranty on all 3 cards

Has anyone been able to get a GeForce 9800GTX or an GTX280/260 working on one of these boards? I'm curious since i am ona 775Dual-VSTA now and want to start migrating to PCI-E, the first step being investing in a good GPU and then when ive scraped together a bit more cash, going for a really good PCI-E board.(Skulltrail or 780i)

Hi
I have the new E5200 running on 4coredual-sata2.
I wan't to do a BSEL mod to 1066 mhz...if it is possible. Anyone know how to do that?
I tried the same mod used on E2000 and E4000 series, but don't work.

What overclocks are you achieving with the E5200?

The BSEL mod used in E4000 and 2000 series works in E5200!
The problem was the quality of the condutive ink,now I used aluminium foil and now I have 1066Mhz of fsb

I hadn't tested the stability of OC, but I can boot at 300mhz, witch result on 3750mhz in E5200

The 12.5 multiplier makes this processor running very fast on this board.

Later I'll post results when I test the stability.

Does anyone know if the e5200 will work with the older 4coredual-vsta or 775dual-vsta? (I have one of each). It looks like the e5200 is officially supported on the 4coredual-sata2, but is not listed on the other two boards. I saw a link to a hacked bios for the 4coredual-vsta which enabled support for the e7200, but I didn't see any reference to the e5200. Thanks.

I've been reading through this thread for awhile now, and thought I had better make an account...

basically I'm a bit concerned about the compatibility of the E7200

I've just bought, and am waiting for in the post:

ASROCK 4COREDUAL-SATA2 R2.0

GEIL 2GB DDR2 667 CL3.0 DUAL CHANNEL

NTEL CORE 2 DUO E7200 1066FSB

now, i bought the E7200 because i read on the official asrock website cpu support list that the E7200 was supported from BIOS version 2.0

since i'm moving up from socket 478 i've just got an engineer to flash the bios to version 2.0 before they send it, but after reading some of these posts i get the impression it's not compatible?

I'm not by any means after a huge overclock, but would like to squeeze a tiny bit of extra performance out, though not by sacrificing stability.

do these boards have any issues with AGP cards like they do PCIE ones? I've got a brand new AGP HD 3850 to go in, and couldn't find an AGP compatability list on the ASROCK site at all.

many thanks!

No AGP cards issues that I recall and E7200 has been reported to work fine with this board.

yeah, i should have read on page 80 where someone had noted both that the E7200 works and is supported...

my guess is that i should be able to get to an FSB of something around the 250 - 290 mark by running the RAM at 1:1, possibly backing the timings down from 3-4-4-8 to something like 4-4-4-12 perhaps?

the working voltage of this RAM is quoted as 1.9 - 2.3v - does that sound a little high?

Is the AGP and PCI-E frequencies independant of one another.
Like can one safely without risk set the PCI-E to 110-120 for a more stable CPU overclock if one is using an AGP card?

I would like to know this too. I have a number of 775dual-vsta boards that I purchased cheap from 3btech, if I could get them running with E5200s OCed, it would be awesome. I need some cheap crunch rigs. Thanks in advance.

I'd like to know this also. I assume that if you're running an AGP card then you can leave the empty PCIE slot to go to whatever frequency you like if they are independant?!

I'm running a RAID 0 array via a PCI card, and an HD 3850 on AGP so need to make absolutely sure that the PCI/AGP freq doesn't creep up

I wasn't aware gains could be made by raising the PCIE anyway? or is it just a stability thing to let the PCIE freq raise with FSB?

Yes AGP and PCI-e frequencies can be independent of each other when selected in the bios.

There was a time with early bios versions that using an AGP card and raising the PCI-e frequency to 117 MHZ helped the overclock by offering more stability, but I believe that this is no longer required due to better bios.

A shame, im trying to figure out how to stabilize my 775Dual-VSTA's 2.8ghz overclock on a 2.66 ghz E6700.

Can anyone overclocking this board give me any memory advice?

I've ordered:

GEIL 2GB DDR2 667 CL3.0 DUAL CHANNEL 3-4-4-8

but it's out of stock even with suppliers, then the guy said we've got some CAS 5 if you want it. Initially i thought i'd wait until the Geil is back in stock, but if i'm going to have to relax the timings to run an FSB 260 - 290 should I just get cheap CAS 5 ram?

does the latest bios (2.0?) allow you to use 2x 2gb ram yet? i read the earlier threads that only 3gb would show on a 32 bit os but some people reported it would not even post

Buy the lowest voltage DDR2 ram you can get as higher default voltage ram may fail to boot up.

cleverly, (well i though it was anyway) i got the engineer from the place i bought the bits from to try every combination of ram they had in the shop to see what worked....

this is on a 4coredual sata2 R2.0 with bios version 2.0

trying to run two of these:

http://www.stak.com/store/viewItem.asp?idProduct=8583

didn't work - it showed 2gb with one installed but failed to even post with both inserted, and the same happened with the CAS 6 versions aswell.

same happened with these:

http://www.stak.com/store/viewItem.asp?idProduct=8588

in the end, i just decided to bite the bullet and accept people that have got more than 2gb to work just happened to get the right bios version and ram make. I'm in a bit of a position regarding the former as i have to have version 2.0 to suppord the E7200.

i ended up with a pair of these:

http://www.stak.com/store/viewItem.asp?idProduct=7867

not really what i wanted but it's taken them a week to get their act together and i just wanted my hardware. I'd like to get to maybe 2.8ghz, but at the end of the day i knew this board wasn't the best for overclocking when i bought it

Dylan -- that's because you're using the stock AsRock BIOS. You instead need a custom BIOS to make it work properly with 4gb RAM.

You need this bios: http://www.pctreiber.net/fileb...php?fileid=2661&lim=20
(yes it's in German, but scroll down to the bottom of that page and download the zip file for the bios -- which does 4gb).
No guarantees, just try it... people here have had some success with it.

cheers 007, I might look into it, though i'm always a bit wary of beta versions of anything...

I was under the impression the pctreiber site made their own bios's but it seems to be a beta bios from asrock themselves?

I presume bios's always default to english!?
