I have a 4850, it seems to work most of the time. However, I seem to be having some graphic problems. I have the lastest bios for the motherboard and the drivers for the graphics card. I'm currently using Vista Ulimate 32bit, but the computer seems to have many problems with the graphic card than it did the the x1950 pro AGP i upgraded from. Also, I have some old problems while installing the drivers for the graphic card.

Hey guyz!

Just bought one of these for one of the home PC's.

4CoreDual SATA2 R2.0
Corsair DDR2 Twin2X (2048MB Kit) 6400C4 2048Mb (2X1024MB)
and a HIS HD3650 512mb AGP

Now I don't want to overclock it to something hardcore; but would could anyone tell me the settings for a 3GHz clock?

Would it be 266X11 ? And what about RAM settings? voltage increase?

I'm a bit used to the old Phoenix Bios settings so this board is a bit confuzing at first

Thanks for any advice!

just to let people no when i have pipeline downstream ENABLED or disabled i get no artifacts in games at all and i have a 3870 so i leave it ENABLED..

On my 8800GT, Ive found I need to have it ENABLED to get rid of the artifacting on fire in Quake 4. However, I need to DISABLE or AUTO it otherwise my MediaPlayerClassic DVD player doesnt work right.

Interesting, I leave pipeline downstream on auto with my 9600GT and have experienced no issues in any games.

I have two 4coredualsata motherboards, and am getting some memory errors with my Crucial Ballistix Tracer ddr2 memory (2-1G sticks). Typically the errors occur after some period of use of the machine, so I surmised that it was perhaps a heat related issue, however, case temps are not a problem as the box is in a cool basement and I keep the case open so cool air is always present over the mobo. Relaxing memory timings had no effect on the errors. Testing one memory stick at a time I get no errors though, only when I use both sticks in dual-channel mode do the errors occur.

I pulled the Crucial sticks from my game rig system, but them in the "spare" 4coredual-sata motherboard (since the 2nd mobo is still uninstalled and is a convenient test setup on my workbench) and duplicated some of the errors. Now comes the odd question, it appears these Crucial memory sticks run a bit warm. Oddly though, the memory stick further from the CPU is always warmer, so much warmer that the temperature difference is quite noticeable to the touch. If I switch the location of the memory sticks, the stick in the slot furthest from the CPU is STILL the hotter stick (temps noted during running of memtest86). BIOS is setup for HIGH Vmem, but the sticks are rated for 2.2v, so 2.1v should be no problem.

Given that the memory speed (266) I'm running them at is far below the spec'd rating of this memory, I'm certainly going to RMA the sticks.

Is anyone else using this particular brand/model memory in their board and if so can you do a touch test on the sticks and check the temps? Thanks. I don't have any other DDR2 mobos to test this in, other than my spare 4coredual-sata mobo.

I also just picked up some very decent Corsair DDR2 memory sticks from Newegg ($45 with a $30 rebate) and they are almost cool to the touch by comparison to the Crucial memory sticks, even under load in my system. I can't detect any temp differences between the Corsair sticks, and their specs are the same or slightly better than the Crucial sticks. I get no memory errors with the Corsair sticks in either system fwiw.

Thanks, in advance, for your comments or observations.

I know this is not the answer you seek, but reading all of the posts in this thread will get you "knowledgeable" on this board. It is perhaps the oddest board I've tinkered with in terms of figuring out the overclocking strategy(ies) and the more knowledge you have, the better off you are. You don't mention your CPU, and that is a critical component of any OC. OC settings will be quite specific depending upon the CPU used.

You should also pay attention to the BSEL mod tips, with the right CPU, the BSEL mod is the best OC mod, and it's fairly simple to do. However, with the wrong CPU, the BSEL mod might give you an unusable CPU (which is easily undone I might add).

I did the BSEL mod on an E2180 and it runs nicely at 2.8Gig. At default Vcore, the CPU will simply not run any faster and remain stable. I doubt you'll have great success in achieving a 3.0Gig OC, unless you purchase a CPU that is sped'd to run at least 2.4-2.5 GHz. I also own an E2200 CPU, rated for 2.2GHz, it will only OC to about 2.7GHz even with a Vcore voltage mod. In my small experiences with this board, the 2180 with a 10x multiplier turns out to be the best OC CPU as 10x266 versus the original 10x200 speed is a significant increase, best bang for the buck as it's typically said in my country (US).

Regards,
Kyle

Hello to all, I'm hoping someone will be able to answer a question for me. My current setup is:

Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2 (not R2.0) running BIOS 2.10
Intel C2D e7200
2x 1GB OCZ Value Series DDR2 667
Corsair 750TX PSU
2x IDE disk drives
2x IDE DVD drives

I've owned this board for almost one year and have not had any real problems. I've also left most of the BIOS settings alone set at "Auto". The memory has always defaulted to the lower speed and I've tried numerous times to get the memory to run dual channel at full speed with no success. I could set a single stick to run at full speed, but not two sticks. Last night, after upgrading the BIOS to version 2.10, I tried to set the memory to full speed again with no success. Out of frustration, I raised the FSB from 266 to 333 in hopes that it would do something. Well the PC failed to POST, as expected, but now I'm having trouble resetting the BIOS. Is it possible something got permanently damaged from changing the FSB speed? Thanks!

I left the battery out over night and still no POST. I've tried different memory sticks in both slots also without results. When resetting the BIOS, it just defaults all options to "auto", right?

@MikesHeadRoom,

Did you make sure to also short the CMOS? Don't think your temporary OC fried anything; it's high for this board but not for CPU and RAM.

Whenever I've changed memory sticks on my 4CoreDual-VSTA I've had to go through lotsa reboots and CMOS clears to get it booting again. Once the CMOS is properly reset, it has been a question of turning it all on and off a few times until the BIOS settings recovery kicks in. Can't help with any v2.10-specific issues since I am on another board and bios.

i have a question too all the users who have not gotten video cards to work:

i tried putting a 4670 in it (on 2.10a) and the textures are messed up, and when playing video, the screen will lockup/black-out
is this what happens to the people who've had incompatible video card on this?

anon, not that I read german, but on the PCtreiber website (where your modified bios came from) somebody wrote in German that for the 4670, you have to go in the motherboard's bios and disable the PCIE Downstream Pipeline. (source: http://www.pctreiber.net/thread.php?threadid=10442 )

You might also want to play with the agp voltage settings in your motherboards bios... maybe crank it up to high, and see if that helps....

Let me know if any of the above works for you, I'd be curious -- thanks!

I'm assuming you unplugged your computer as well.... and tried to power it up right after unplugging it (that will discharge the capacitors on the board that hold some electrical charge -- think of them as little batteries)

I just tried powering up while unplugged and that seems to have fixed the problem. Finally booted up. Thanks for the tip! I was really getting worried as just a few days ago I put in the Corsair PSU after installing a BFG 7950 GT OC. There's nothing worse than getting some new components like that and then you can't use them

the store i bought it from was the sapphire 4670 for $105 cad
there's another store that has the asus 4670 for 90 after 10 MIR

i'm thinking of buying it from there then, but that store has a NO return policy

You're welcome... glad it helped. Yup, the board can't properly clear the cmos, even with the battery out, until you try to power it up with the power turned off --to discharge all the capacitors holding a charge in the circuits (including power supply)... and once that's done, then you can set it up with the battery in, and power on... works then.

good card, idles at 33c and loads at 56c
plays everything at max
i'm just wonder what kind of performance decrease i'm getting having the pci-e at x4 instead of x16

At lower resolutions (eg 1280x1024), not much, but up to 10% at higher resolutions. You can search for the original review on AT for the 775Dual-VSTA; I believe there or in a follow up there were some benchies.
