Try setting the AGP voltage to High, as someone found further up the thread. Allowed me to run at 266FSB (with Q6600). But even 1MHz over 266, and it won't boot. Doesn't switch off properly either!

i'll give it a shot and post what happened.

btw, i have the 1.80 bios currently. i started w/ 1.5 then 1.6 and 1.7 ... still the same issue of no reboot when fsb is changed.

i solve boot problem by setting agp frequncy to more than 33.3 especially syncwith cpu
do you try it.

I select program all blocks

No when system botted writes that:

MAC ADRESS ARE INVALID IN BOTH CMOS AND FLASH!
PRESS F1 TO RESUME

I flash several bios (under dos, official bios, another win flash , ?)
But problem don?t solved
I clear cmos and remove battery
But problem don?t solved

Hi everybody, first post here on Anandtech

I'm waiting for my e2200 and a 4CoreDual-Sata2 board. I'm aiming to reach a 266FSB no more no less.
with DDR400 and a 6800GT AGP Card.

What do you suggest, the 266 BSEL Mod or to overclock directly from the 200 of stock FSB to 266 ?

If I'm not wrong, with the BSEL Mod I wil have the right AGP and PCI Bus-Speed and the Memory divider will be already set for the ram (by choosing DDR400 it will set the divider to 3/4 right? if the FSB is 266)
What happend if I overclock from 200 to 266 ?
AGP e PCI Bus are going to be out of spec or they will be adjusted like with the BSEL MOD?
the ram divider in use will be the one of 200FSB (1:1 for DDR400) or after 240MHz it automatically switch to 3:4 for DDR400 ? (some were in this post some one wrote this 240 gate point)

in the end, there is any difference between a BSEL Mod at 266 or an Overclocket 200->266 CPU. in AGP/PCI/PCI-e/RAM Divider etccc ?

tx in advance for any answer!

Asrock Tech emailed me "MACtool" software to rewrite MAC-address on a 4CoreDual . You can download it from here,

http://members.optushome.com.au/zyclops1/mactool.zip

Then easy to do:-

STEP1: Find your particular mobo's MAC-address (will look similar but NOT same as, 000B6A76723E) on rear parallel port panel and write it down.

STEP2: Unzip MACtool software to a DOS bootable Floppy diskette.

STEP3: Boot into pure DOS environment, ie nothing loaded but DOS.

SETP4 At MACtool folder on floppy disc, and using the "mac-address" previously noted at STEP 1, Enter ?MAC c mac-address". A success message should be displayed after updating the mobo's MAC address.

STEP5: Reboot computer.

Welcome to Anandtech forum,

Since you are only interested in booting at 266, the easiest way would likely be to do the BSEL mod.

However to ensure better stability for loading and running windows, I suggest you also set mobo bios Memory parameters (Freq, Cas, etc) manually, along with setting Vagp to "high".

Nope. Mine has had those options all along, through 1.50, 1.60, 1.70 and now 1.80 BIOS.

Welcome to Anandtech forum.

And nice to know I'm not completely alone here !

why would it be the easiest way the BSEL mod?
I have the defroster ink, but I would prefer to leave the CPU as it is if I can.

Isn't it easier to try different Bios setting until I reach a stable 266OC instead of physically modifing the CPU ?

Actually Iìm a little scared of the BSEL MOD, can I go back if it will not work? how do you clean it from the CPU?

The BSEL mod is very easy to do, and it also means nomatter which mobo you fit your CPU into, or which different bios you use with your mobo, you will always boot as a 1066 type CPU (fsb of 266MHz) ---> to my mind, much better than playing around with the "right" choices in any particular bios, assuming you can easily find them ?

However, you can obviously just overclock from your cpu's booting default of 200Mhz ---> remembering, as previously posted, at the very least to enter important memory params manually into bios, and to set Vagp at "High" !

And yes, it's also very easy to remove the BSEL mod ---> you can either, gently scrape the conductive film off, or, use a solvent ---> or even easier if you do the BSEL mod with small pieces of aluminium foil like others in the forum have done ?

Very good choice of the e2200 with the high multiplier, that helps a lot with this board.

The bsel mod is the easiest cpu mod to do. Its easy since the mod area to be painted/connected is on the edge of the chip.
There are basically 3 methods to do it. 1)The aluminum foil and a tiny dab of super glue method. 2) The folding over aluminum duct tape method. 3) The defroster/circuit pen ink method.

Since you already have the defroster ink, use that method if your ink is still good. You can clean off mistakes with acetone and alcohol.

Print out a picture of the bsel mod so you know what to do.
Tape the areas not to be painted. Use a good magnifying glass.
Work neatly.

Yes, you could first try reaching 266 without the bsel mod. The bsel mod changes the 800fsb cpu into a 1066fsb one and makes the board behave better as a side benefit.

I use the instruction for 1.2875v default to increasing vcore to 1.51V
http://sg.vr-zone.com/articles...tage_Boost/3904-3.html

My current Vcore mod involved soldering a pot to voltage regulator control chip. Only recommended for people comfortable with soldering wires onto small components such as those on your mobo. The links below show slightly different methods for using a pot to vary Vcore,

http://forums.vr-zone.com/showthread.php?t=192571

http://www.xtremesystems.org/f...d.php?t=117017&page=11

However, depending on how high you want to overclock (or just maybe how high your 4coredual will let you), it may be better for you to try the Vr-zone CPU 1.4v "conducting paint" mod ? With my E4400, the 1.4v "paint" mod allowed an overclock to around 3GHz ---> so maybe same 1.4v will allow you around 3-3.2GHz ---> which for you would require fsb overclock in range 272-291 ?

Mind you, at 3GHz, and above, levels, you need to be using better that original Intel heatsink !

Your bios default "Normal/High" measured values for Vagp seem a bit odd to me ---> hardly worth having two different bios settings ?

My experience of measuring Vagp on 4coredual-vsta and 4coredual-sata mobos is that it was 1.59 and 1.64 volts for same bios settings.

not to get off topic here but i'm happy to report i'm up & running VISTA Ultimate at 3Gbs of ram.
gonna try vista 64 to see if i can register the full 4Gbs.

i'll keep everyone posted. plus i'll have some question regarding CPU-Z & bios.

My testing yielded 2816MB (2.8GB) RAM recognized as max by BIOS and Ultimate 64. Tell us what you do to get 3GB recognized, and if you get 4GB recognized, great!

i messed around with the bios for about 4 hours last night and i'm learning alot through trial & error. i will post more thorough details later when i get some good time to do so.

this is the ram i testing now.

pqi TURBO 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200)
newegg.com link

i need some help here -
to be brief; i was running 2Gb (1 x 2Gb DDR2 533Mhz) and booting fine.
timings - 4,4,4,12 Q6600 @ 2.2Ghz (underclocked)

now in the bios i was able to change the FSB to 300 and posted my Q6600 @ 2.71Ghz but then it would just freeze. it wouldn't report the total ram. i then lowered the FSB to 285 and posted @ 2.58Ghz or something but again it would freeze before the ram total. then i set the FSB to 275 w/ the Q6600 @ 2.50Ghz and behold it read the ram @ 2048MB but it would not start up windows. then lowered to 270 FSB w/ the Q @ 2.48Ghz and it loaded some windows' reading up until the scrolling windows bar and the bar would eventually freeze.

what can i do here? what am i doing wrong? can it be my Q6600 rev. B3 ?

--

here's another issue;

* for whatever reason the PC won't reboot or post if i change the FSB with 3Gbs installed. i have to remove one of the sticks and make all my adjustments with just 1 x 2GB. then there's another issue after this. the PC won't repost if you reinstall the 2nd 2GB stick. you have to remove both 2 x 2GB sticks and reinstall the original 2 x 1GBs, clear the CMOS and let the PC boot up successfully. after that you can shutdown and reinstall both 2GBs sticks and reboot with 3Gbs of ram.

so what i have to do is actually boot with 3Gbs. remove 1 x 2Gb stick then mess with the FSB until i can boot into windows. then shutdown and reinstall the 2nd stick and get back into windows w/ 3Gbs of ram.

VERY IMPORTANT . make sure before you install 2 x 2Gbs that you successfully boot with your ram timings set @ 266Mhz . 4,4,4,12 . Dual Channel in the bios or else it won't recognize the 2 x 2Gbs. trial & error here.

-- so far as of 2 a.m. i was booting at 3GBs (3072MB) w/ the Q6600 @ 2.40Ghz

i did my test with only changing the setting pertaining to the ram in the bios and also with the bios setting some of you have recommended and still get the same issues.

going to mess with her again tonight and see what happens.
hopefully this makes sense to someone.

This sounds very similiar to the behavior I got before I did the bsel mod that changed my e2180 from a 800fsb cpu to a 1066fsb one.

But in your case the Q6600 is already a 1066fsb cpu. It would be interesting if someone did the same bsel mod on a 1066fsb, even though it sounds silly and useless, to see if the behavior changes. Maybe the bsel mod does something else in addition to changing the default fsb.

WDR above also shows the same pcie options. I think it has to do with never having bios version 1.10 on my board. Will test that theory later.

OK, I got around to flashing the bios to 1.10. No change, it still only gives me the options of "Auto", "Sync with CPU", "100MHz", so my theory didnt pan out.

I then flashed to 1.80a, and still no change. So I dont know why the PCIE options are different on the same revision boards.

I did the BSEL-mod now, but it actually didn't help me get past the 3 Ghz wall (272 FSB), exept for 1 mhz increase in FSB, from orthos stable at 271 FSB to orthos stable at 272 mhz. But it improved my system (and 3Dmark score) anyways because I could run it with the "flexible"-option disabled and therefore higher memory speed (408 mhz bus-speed and timings at 2-2-2-5), memory divider at 6:8.

Before I did the BSEL-mod I could run it at 3 Ghz (271 FSB) with "flexible" enabled in BIOS, but that set my memory bus-speed to 362 mhz (4:6 memory divider). So at that point I was actually preferring to run at 2,7 Ghz, FSB 245 (and thereby memory bus-speed at 490 mhz since the memory divider was at 1:1 and the "flexible"-option was disabled), which gave me better results in 3Dmark. I'm considering the voltmods to try to get past the 3 Ghz wall, but I haven't decided yet... Maybe later... Can I do that with aluminium tape too? I should probably start with the lowest volt-mod to be safe and perhaps increase later..? Are there any scary experiences around of this board getting damaged etc. by the volt-mods?

Ok, looking at it from another direction: I used AMIBCP (AMI Bios configuration Program) to look at bios's structure and as expected found your "CPU Host Freq","Actual Freq","PCIE Clock","AGP/PCI Clock" options as awell as my "Overclock Mode","CPU Freq","PCIE Freq", "PCI Freq", options.

Maybe it just depends on which CPU is used ---> I have only ever used E4xxx and E6xxx C2D's ?

Or maybe easirer than that ---> Many of the bios options are "SUPERVISOR ONLY" operated and will therefore only work when you create seperate User/Supervisor" bios passwords ---> which I always do ----> How about you ?
