I have asked about overclocking my rig before but my quest crashed and burned with blue screens and Graphics card errors. So I decided to start over, I reinstalled xp, flashed the bios again, cleared the cmos and I want to give it another shot.
Pentium D 930 Presler Core Dual 3.0 Ghz 800FSB
ATI Radeon 1650 XT IceQ 512 Mb (24 pixel pipelines)
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal compound
Apevia 500W with 2x120mm fans
2x80mm case fans
2x1 Gig Wintec Dual Channel 533Mhz
I run between 45-49C processor temp, 47-49C Graphics card temp, and 36-43C case temp depending on the season.
My settings are:
Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2 Bios Version 1.80
CPU Configuration
==================================================
CPU Host Frequency [Manual]
Actual Frequency (MHz) [240]
PCIE Clock [100 MHz]
AGP/PCI Clock [66/33 MHz]
Spread Spectrum [Disabled]
Boot Failure Guard [Enabled]
Ratio Acutal Value 15
Max CPUID Value Limit [Disabled]
No-Execute Memory Protection [Disabled]
Chipset Configuration
==================================================
DRAM Frequency [266MHz (DDRII533) ]
Flexibility Option [Disabled]
DRAM CAS# Latency [4]
DRAM Bank Interleave [4-Way]
Precharge to Active (Trp) [4T]
Active to Precharge (Tras) [12T]
Active to CMD (Trcd) [4T]
REF to ACT/REF to REF (Trfc) [28T]
ACT (0) to ACT (1) (Trrd) [2T]
Read to Precharge (Trtp) [Auto]
Write to Read CMD (Twtr) [2T]
Write Recovery Time (Twr) [4T]
DRAM Bus Selection [Dual Channel]
DRAM Command Rate [2T Command]
> Advanced Memory Configuration [Untouched]
> Advanced Host Configuration [Untouched] Except for Pipeline DRQCTL Enabled
DRAM Voltage [Auto]
AGP Voltage [High]
Didn't mess with the AGP settings to try to avoid graphics problems like last time but I do have it overclocked with the Overdrive tool and the duty cycle of the fan up to 100% with Riva Tuner.
V-Link Speed [Normal]
V-Link disable [Enabled]
PCI Delay Transaction [Enabled]
IDE Drive Strength [Normal]
PCIE Downstream Pipeline [Auto]
OnBoard LAN [Enabled]
OnBoard HD Audio [Enabled]
Front Panel [Disabled]
Echo TPR Disable [Auto]
How much headroom do I have? For whatever reason Real Temp doesn't work. Anyone got any tips for how much I can overclock. Last time I had problems around 245 on the bus speed but after redoing everything it seems to run more stable now than it did before at 240. Can and one recommend any tools for checking stablility, and CPU status. Anything would be great. Thanks.

Best advice is likely got from someone with a Pentium D 930 Presler setup, which is not me, however because you want to start afres, I suggest you only override as few default bios settings as possible, and therefore only those likely to give a benefit regardless of memory or cpu type idiosyncracies?
1) Spread Spectrum at "Enabled" will create less loading, so probably better choice to start with.
2) Leave REF to ACT/REF to REF (Trfc), ACT (0) to ACT (1) (Trrd),Read to Precharge (Trtp), Write to Read CMD (Twtr), Write Recovery Time (Twr), and Pipeline DRQCTL, at default "AUTO" settings. At least untill you have system overclocked and stable to your requirements ---> these settings are more about tweaking a particular mobo hardware config for performance ---> not overclocking.
3) DDRII Dram Volts options are 1.8/1.9/2v (low/norm/high), so best to choose option that same or one step above volts rating of your chosen memory.
4) My E4400/4coredual-sata2/7800gs (or 6800gt)/2xEID/2xDDRII800 setup does not overclock well unless V-Link Speed is at "Fast" and IDE Drive Strength is at "Highest". ---> mind you, may be related to my only using IDE type HDD's and CD/DVD devices in my setup?
5) With mobos like the 4coredual, there will always be problems overclocking a "800" type cpu to a 245, or above, fsb ---> it's a mobo Chipset thing ---> and also the reason why people with E2xxx/E4xxx cpu's are usually hopeless at serious overclocking untill after having done a 1066 BSEL mod?
Hopefully some of this will be of use to you ?

I cant find the voltage of my RAM anywhere. I am guessing it is 1.8v. Also what would I need to make the processor more overclockable? I run 1 SATA DVD RAM drive but I have 2 other IDE cd drives (one burner one not) and 2 IDE HDD's so should I go ahead and make v-link "fast" and IDE Drive strength "Highest". Do you know of any programs to test stability?

EDIT: After testing with the realtek speaker tester jobby i only get 2 speakers.. however when playign a dts film i get correct surround sound... however at the moment im getting no/very quiet speech....
EDIT -- YEY ... fixed.. it turns out selecting 6channels (5.1) in the driver scuppers it up, (searched around on tinternet... ) so by setting it to 2 channels ( speakers..) it works... the only thing i'm worried about it gaming.. will it be on surround sound?..

Very usefull changes listed in 1.90A, I will test it later today.

Even with the 1.90a bios, Using 2 x 2GB DDR2-800 RAM, I only get 3071MB (3.071GB) RAM in BIOS and in Windows system, despite 64bit VISTA.

I hear somewhere Windows xp dose not support more than 3G Ram
