Have you tried moving the Audigy to all the different pci slots ?

Find the pci slot that doesnt share.

You can change the IRQ in windows XP Device Manager > Click on Device > Resourses. Uncheck the automatic setting.

Hey all, i have a problem with this board, it only sees one of my sticks of ram and it didnt before the ram died, i really want this to work as ive been waiting to play a ame for atleast 2 months with the problems ive had with this board and now im getting a little peeved.

Spec list.

Asrock 4CoreDual SATA 2 r2
2gb of (2x1 sticks) kingston DDR2 667mhz
q6600 at stock
x1950pro agp (sapphire)
120gb hard drive (IDE)
Ausigy 2

@Daley G, if your audigy 2 has firewire disable it in the hardware manager/device manager.

Im confused about your sequence of events. Are you saying a stick of ram died, then the board only saw one stick after that ?

Not quite, i'll start from the start (..heh)

My previouss Asrock 4CoreDual sata 2 died, i belive it took the ram with it as when i got a replacement (a asrock 4coredual - sata 2 r2.0) both sticks came out as faulty. I had ran memtest for a few hours a it returned with 2 errors. Now i tested those ram sticks with the replacement board, and when it was testing it saw both of those sticks.

Now I have since got those RMA'ed and replaced with the exact same type.

But during the time the rma took place i used a DDR stick.

But when the ram returned (the kingston set of two - one gigabyte sticks) one of the sticks were only detected.

Ive since tried two DDR sticks which again only one of the sticks worked.

Ive also tried, clearing the cmos whihc didnt work either

Welcome to anandtech Fallen. When I got my first SATA2 the board only saw one stick as well.It was suggested here that some of these boards were known to have bad memory slots and to push down really hard on the stick that wasn't showing up.This reseat procedure might work but not in my case.I RMA'd the board and the new one they sent is wonderful.Good Luck.

I have always disliked Creative's drivers..install a different brand sound card...i'll bet the crackling won't be there at all. Creative and crackling go hand and hand.

Can someone tell me if it would be worth it to get a dual core being that i have a Celeron D 356 3.3. Would I notice much a difference in speed/video FPS? Thinking about getting that e4500 with a good cooler and some good thermal paste but not sure if its worth the cash..

I'm currently using a Celeron D 346 3.06GHZ overclocked to 3.63GHz and compared to my laptop with a Core 2 Duo 2GHz, I find the laptop hands down beats my Celeron in performance. For obvious things like multitasking, much better performance from the Core 2 Duo.

For example, my Celeron finds it difficult even when multitasking on simple things, like watching a video whilst opening a web browser at the same time, it tends to stutter alot which I find really strange, whereas on the laptop everything is nice and smooth. Both my PC and laptop have 2GB DDR2 RAM as well.

But yeah I plan to go Quad Q6600 in the future to replace this Celeron so I would personally recommend the upgrade. Celeron's are always at the cheap lower end of things anyway and these particular ones are like 4-5 years old now.

Hi all,

Today is one of the hottest days, it?s like 40c outside, and it?s about 30c inside. I finished installing new fans and lapped my hs (took ages); this is the first run I?m getting max 80c. I get very good temps inside the case. I didn't lap my cpu.

Is this ok seeing as its prob the hottest temps will ever get?

What do you guys think?

Should it be ok or should I buy a new hs or try lapping the cpu? or wait for the silver to reach max efficiency?

Is the max temp for e4500 73.3C (according to Intel website specification) or 85c?

I'm using the TR 120XP.

conflikt, it is definitely worthy replacing Celeron with any of dual cores, you will see improvement

wineo, 80C is too high temperature, are you sure that cooler is mounted properly?

now, not sure if it interesting to anyone, but here is my summary with 5 CPUs:

E2160 ( 9x multi): Orthos stable 30+h @ 284MHz FSB, BIOS 1.8, memory 3-3-3-9 (1T)
E6850 ( 9x multi): Orthos stable 8h @290MHz FSB, BIOS 1.9A, memory 3-3-3-9 (1T)
E6750 ( 8x multi): Orthos stable 5h @288MHz FSB, BIOS 1.9A, memory 3-3-3-9 (1T)
E4500 (11x multi): Orthos unstable at 244MHz, BIOS 1.9A, , memory 4-4-4-12 (2T) [will test at lower speeds, but it is lagging already]
Q6600 ( 9x multi): Orthos stable 8h@274MHz FSB, BIOS 1.9A, memory 3-3-3-9 (1T)

tested with:
CPU cooler: Freezer 7Pro
memory: Kingston value ram, 2x1024MB
graphic card: X1950Pro with DuOrb
PSU: Zalman 850W, with heatpipes
3xIDE hard drives, DVD burner IDE, 1 SATA boot drive

E4500 was a big disappointment, it is probably this sample, but having had high hopes
it turned out to be a very poor overclocker. BSEL mode is as far as I feel comfortable
with HW modding.

Looking at all those CPUs, paired with X1950 Pro AGP card there is very little difference
in games, except for Age of Empires that run most smoothly with Q6600 (have not
benchmarked, just my impression, but it was noticeable difference)

Photoshop and multi tasking, again Q6600 was best, SuperPi was fastest with E6850,
and that CPU was running very cool. Q6600 probably needs a good PSU because
motherboard was showing signs of strain as max FSB with quad was just 274MHz
and northbridge heatsink was very hot (in "touch test")

As I can keep one of those I decided to take Q6600, but also get a new mobo,
MSI P35 Neo2-FR, together with new memory and Radeon 3870 that are going
quite cheap nowadays, and give the SATA2 to my brother.
If I kept this board then out of those 5 CPUs I would probably go with E6850, it
was fast and cool running and also allowed for fastest FSB

Most likely the reason the e4500 didnt do as well is because you didnt do the bsel mod. This board likes 1066fsb processors the best. Thats good that you could get the Q6600 to 274mhz stable, a lot of people cant.

I have a new 4CoreDual-SATA2, I bought a new Intel Core2Duo Conroe E6300 on eBay for $125 a couple months back, I found HP DDII Ram (2 x 1gb sticks) for $3 each after rebate. I put in a Radeon X2900 Pro 512mb video card. It is all running fine. I can run my setting for Crysis wide open and maxed out...
and this E6300 is at the lower end of the Core2Duo cpu's.

BTW, in this forum and thread, you will see a recent deal on really good DDII ram, and if you check the forum often, you wil find new deals on it..

This thread shows the deal is dead now, but these deals come and go fast..

DEAD (rebate expired): HP PC2-5300 1GB 240pin memory : $3.83 AR + ship @ PCUniverse:

if it's not ok to post this link here, I am sorry,, I am using it as an example of a recent / past deal..

sorry, maybe it was not clear from my post, but both E2160 & E4500 are BSEL modded
and mobo selects 266MHz FSB on auto, it is simply a poor overclocker, or poor thing
has been run on high volts before, something I'll never know...

I'll try that, also my graphics card is dead too. Well it appears so, as the screen corruption suggests.

I'd be taking a look at your power supply too! A dying PSU can cause symptoms like that.

Yeah it could, but would a 700w OCZ Gamexstream unit die so early? (6 months old)

It's possible. I had an Antec go funny once - it was probably less than a year old. And because it was supposed to be a good PSU, I changed almost everything else before discovering the true problem. It's always worth considering the PSU if several strange things show themselves at once.

yeah I will be considering but im going to look at the most obvious first, IE: Mobo and the graphics card as i'll replacing those, bye bye AGP.

My CPU runs at 800 FSB (pentium D 930). Is there a way to MOD the bios so that I can raise the bus speed higher in the bios. I know that the mobo likes 1066 processors and my FSB wont go past 238 stable (sux I know). I would be able to raise the bus higher if the comp thought is was a 1066 right? Any help would be great.

E2200 is one of the best bang for buck with 11 multy that?s needed for this limited FSB board.

Oh OK.

With the exception of the q6600, which generally doesnt overclock much at all on this board, its odd to see different top fsb limits on processors that are all capable of over 350fsb on other boards.

I'm referring to core temp (I?ve already found the difference between Intel's thermal specs and shutdown temp).

Today it's still hot my temps are:

idle cpu 37, core 1+2 40
max cpu 51, core 1+2 78

Yes it is mounted properly, there's really only one way you can mount it. It also secures on good. It uses clips that have to be pushed down pretty hard to clip on.

What do you think of my temps? Still too hot?

Measure max temp using Everest while ORTHOS running
In moded bios set fan speed step at 50C
See fan speed in ORTHOS that should be 1900-3200 RPM(depend on ambient temp) in full load.
My temps are not the function of ambient temp because max fan speed change on ambient temp (even 1900RPM in cool days and 3200rpm in hot days) the min fan speed is 1000RPM that is not a function of ambient temp.

My temps:
E4500@1.55V@3000Mhz
Cpu temp: 55C and Core temp 75C while ORTHOS is running (case is open) in both winter or summer

and a question:what is the shutdowd temp? is this fore Core or CPU temp?

These temps are from everest + orthos. I'm runing the 1.8a bios but i see no fan speed setting. Is there a fan speed setting in 19a?

Also about the rpms, every fan has different specs so your 3200rpm does not apply to me. I'm not using the stock hs + fan. My fan is already running at max speed. well it's reporting just under so in reality it should be on max.

The shutdown temp on my M0 stepping is 85c
