The board/chip doesn't want to go higher that 297fsb with the current bios/voltage, & I don't know if it's worth trying to go any higher.
The diff in me running mine at 310 vs 300 fsb is 1000 points in 3dmark 2001, havent tried any of the others to see how much they have dropped, but this should give you an idea as to what your missing by not pushing it further, which really is not all that much.
Just be happy with what you have right now, and later when your ready to upgrade, all you really have to do is buy another board, cheap second hand for under $50, that is a great overclocker at its time, to unlock the hidden power you couldnt get with this board.
Thats atleast my plan. Right now I have smoked my 4000+ rig, and with what it cost me to do it I couldnt of done it if I had just kept my 4000+ set up and changed ram, or bought a faster GFX card. For what this has given me, and for the price, its like I had just slapped on a 8800GTX on my 4000+ board but without paying $500
In a year when I need something faster, I just have to buy another board, that was a great overclocker now used off someone who paid $200 for it, and I can get it off them for $50. Then I can unlock this cpu even further, buy a 8800GTS or GTX for about $150-$200 at that time as well, and this sob will be smoking fast yet again on the cheap
I do my pc like I been doing with cars, never a brand new one if I can help it, unless it is dirt cheap and goes really fast, then buy everyones 2nd hand they think is junk, for cheap, making mine fast as hell. Sure it may not be "todays" technology, but do I really need my NFS MW or FEAR running at 500 FPS VS 150 FPS? Nope, is there anything out right now I play that needs a X6800 cpu, with 8 gigs of ram, and 2 8800GTX's running in SLI, that doesnt suck, as far as game play goes, and massive eye candy would make me want to still play it vs not much eye candy? NO. So I have been very happy all these years, myself, with how I been doing my pc's, and saving a bundle
Now if you excuse me, the talk of fear, and nfs mw, has made me want to go play them again, they may be old games, but the best for the PC, IMO, that I like. That new NFS Carbon game blows, I hate night driving, I cant even see in the real world at night, and they kill it for me with the damn night driving games, hence why I love MW
