My Radeon 9800Pro has just died . So seeing as these 4CoreDualVSTA boards arn't working with the 8800GT's can somebody recomend a good midrange cheap mobo to use an 8800GT on.

Thanks

Here is the processor specs: http://processorfinder.intel.c...tails.aspx?sSpec=SL8Q6

Conductive ink pen in Western Australia, post to your state.

To find your default v-core you need to run the program called RightMark CPU Clock Utility (RMClock) Version 2.30.1

http://cpu.rightmark.org/download.shtml

Under Startup column
Req.Vcore [VID] is your default v-core, check if there is a mod for your default voltage first in Shamino's article.

BSEL mod is also worth considering as per picture in post 29 of below link.

Anyone know, or care to take a guess, at whether the 4coredual will have a similar problem with the new ATI HD 3800 series as it does with the 8800GT?

I too would like to find out if a 3870 would run on the 4CoreDual-VSTA PCIE slot, As my Crucial Radeon 9800 pro that I brought with a limited lifetime warranty died and now Crucial say that they NEVER sold a 9800 with a limited lifetime warranty. Although it refferencies the limited lifetime warranty in the manual and ALL the reviews of a crucial 9800pro on the net refferene it. I have been using a geforce2GTS(32meg) for the last week and a bit.

The 3870 is a Gen2 PCIe card and will probably have the same problems that the 8800gt has with PT880pro/ultra boards, unfortunately.

The Gen2 issue is nullifying the transitional upgrade value of this board, sadly. That plus reports of lower OC when using PCIe vid cards have convinced me to make a last investment in a 3850 AGP before shoving the board into an HTPC box and relegating it to fancy playback machine status. Should be good for a few yrs in that role.

I confess I love my quirky 4Core, tho, and am gonna savor it for a while yet.

Well I've ended up buying an X1950XTX 512MB for 90 pounds on Ebay

I won't be going DX10 any time soon and I figured this will last me a good year. I hope the board will be able to handle this card...

well, i bit the bullet and bought a 8800gts 640 (the ssc model with 112 stream processors)... didn't feel like messing around with trying to flash a 8800gt. I'll post detailed benchmarks once i get it.

3dmark06 score of 8362 with EVGA 8800gts 640 SSC.

4coredual
e4400 @ 2.67
2GB DDR2 533 3-3-3-12

Disabling PCIe downstream pipeline helps alot with this card. With it enabled, there was heavy artifacts.

Update: 8712 with Forceware 169.04 drivers

That's a good result with this mobo IMO.

I'm definitely pleased. Crysis on high settings is a sight to behold. I'm playing Oblivion at 1680x1050 with HDR and everything on max and its smooth as glass. If the last 16SPs can be unlocked and with some overclocking, it might be able to break 10K with the 4coredual.

update:
i'm hitting 9000 in 3dmark06 with the maximum stable overclock i've tried so far with the 8800gts 640 SSC (620/940). The 4x PCI-E is producing diminishing returns at these levels and appears to be the end of the line unless i can overclock the other system components even more (unlikely). Still, 9000 for this board isn't bad.

just put a saphire 3870 in the 4coredual, seems to run fine in xp64.
3dmark06 is 9540 with the 3870 at default clock.
had to disable pcie downstream, nothing else needed changing- bus is ok at 300.
memory is 3-3-3-10-1t

very nice... i am starting to wonder about 3dmark06 as a benchmark, though... i recently benched an 8600GT in the 4coredual and got almost 6000. The x1950pro gets only 5000 but runs circles around it in games, older games at least. maybe newer shader intensive games are different.

First off - Hi everybody.

Sorry if I'm OT but I'm looking for help with an Asrock 4coreDual-vsta. I've got an E2second-cheapest-one in it, 2 sticks of geil Black Dragon, an IBM HD and a "Suntek 300W" PSU.

The problem I have is that I can't get the board to do anything at all. The little LEDs on the Ram sticks (I didn't know they had them when I bought them don't come on, the CPU fan doesn't spin up, the HDD doesn't spin up. The sticker on the BIOS chip reads P1.70-12B

The PSU works with an old Dell P4 server I have kicking about but I don't have another LGA775 mobo to try swapping nor do I have another PSU with the 4 pin connector on it.

Does anybody have any advice before I throw the board in the trash?

Find another PSU like a FSP/Sparkle unit from a local shop if funds are an issue.
These are about the best "cheap" PSUs you can get IMO. I would also try booting
with only one stick of memory at a time.

Nirvana Bios for the 4CoreDual-SATA2 board that if true may also work with the 4CoreDual-VSTA board.

Looks Like a hidden Via Bios exists that lets you changes all sorts of settings.

Could someone Techy please try it and explain what it?s all about.

Thanks Javver for making this known in another forum.

Dear ASRock America Customer,

Sorry, 4CoreDual-VSTA does not support PCIE GEN2 mode VGA card.

The only solution is to set HD 3870/3850 GEN2 mode PCIE VGA card to GEN1 mode. Please refer to the video card manufacture to have further information on how to flash the firmware of the VGA card to GEN1 mode.

Hmmm,at least Asrock responded within a day
Well,I guess either ATI,Sapphire needs to step up (or who ever your cards manufacturer)
to get this to run on your Dual 775/Asrock 4core dual vista/sata2.
I will submit a ticket with Sapphire.hopefully they will respond with a firmware update. If enough people submit the same complaint.

Thanks Mr.Vain .Thanks for the heads up.

Dang it! Sorry wrong thread but still applies I guess!

Hi all My 1st time in a long time. I even had to re-register but lurk alot.
I got a Diamond Ati 3870 which I tried to instal in Vista Buisness 32 bit.
The card would post fine but when I loaded the drivers using the 7.11 or the CD drivers
RCA 8.3 the computer would just keep rebooting. Using the 7.10 drivers the computer would post but no 3d. I tried loading in XP Home and the card works using Drivers on CD.
I get 9600 in 3d mark06 with no tweaks. I have a E6600 @2.4 ghz and 2GB of pny 5300
I would like to get this working in Vista if anyone has any ideas
