If your pc holds without crashing, disable flexibility option by all means, and if it holds in 1T use it, but if not then you should go to safer settings and of course you lose some performance.

This new setting is a magic bullet for extra memory bandwidth according to everyone that?s used it!
In the Bios find
Advanced Host Conf:
Pipeline DRQCTL - Enabled

Thanks to Oliver for finding this out.

Try it and you should be Amazed, it?s a huge boost. :Q

hmm.. in my PC..
that setting doesnt make any performance boost..
i'm using DDR PC2700 Micron (from HP pc)
using all highest seting, 1T

but i dont get performance boost in Sandra or any benchmark software

i'm using PD805 (stock speed, stock cooling)
idle 41C
load 53C
ambient 25-26C

Holy Mother of Moses! That setting got me from 4000 to 4800! Fantastic! Any other goodies?

That's a nice boost, a huge boost!
4800MB/s -> 5900MB/s.

No gains from using the ddr 133 or the ddr 166 strap.

You will only see a performence boost in the memory bandwidth with the ddr 200 setting.

Thanks to Mallet for pointing this out.

Just information, I don't get benefit at all by turning on 'Pipeline DRQCTL'. Following is my rig.

Pentium D 840 3.2G@3.68G
PQI Turbo 2G DDR2 PC5400

I only overclock the CPU frenquency from stock 200 to 230 and the flexibility in chipset configuration is on. I get about 4770M/s memory throughput reading from Sandra.

By the way, BIOS recognise the memory as DDR2 533 and the it runs at 230Mhz at 1:1 radio with CPU clock.

My old box had a Sempron 3000+ (Socket754), 1GB of DDR400 and a Radeon 9700 Pro. The PSU on that box got fried and apparently took out the motherboard with it. After checking which parts were still functional (the ram, video card and cpu), I decided to upgrade a bit and bought a Core 2 Duo E6300 and the 775Dual-VSTA (and a new PSU of course.)

I put everything together, pressed the power button and held my breath. After about a minute I was forced to exhale while nothing happened. No POST beep, no vga signal. All the components were getting power, my fans were running, hard drives were running, cd drive was running, usb got power, but there was no POST beep and no vga signal. After this I rechecked the functionality of the old parts, and both (vid card and ram) worked fine on another box.

Baffled, suspecting that the PSU somehow wasn't giving enough juice, I disconnected my hard drives, usb devices, cd drives and my PCI NIC, so that the only things still in were the motherboard, PSU, ram, cpu and video card. Still the same symptoms - no POST beep and no vga signal to the monitor.
After that I took out the video card and pushed the power button.

This time, I get eleven (11) beeps in a sequence of two short, pause, 8 short, pause, one short. I looked up the beep codes on ASRock's Site to find out that eleven beeps meant cache memory failure. I also googled for other sites with AMI bios beep codes since the asrock website doesn't exactly instill great trust with all the engrish - other sites making this result more ambiguous (possible reasons cpu or motherboard failure.)

After seeing this I suspected the CPU was faulty, as I had manhandled it slightly (certainly don't think I had done enough to damage l2 cache but anything's possible, right?) So I just sucked it up and bought another E6300. This time being super duper careful with the installation and taking every possible precaution to avoid any damage, I install it to the motherboard.

*powerbutton*
BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP

Okay so maybe it wasn't the CPU after all. Next I figured the motherboard must be faulty. I went back to the shop and switched it for a new one under warranty. Fast forward to the next power button press. *drumroll* Eleven beeps again!

I'm starting to consider just buying a new motherboard, ram, and video card but that would set me back an awful lot and don't really want to do it unless it's absolutely necessary. Does anyone have any idea at all what might be wrong?

Oh and, I tried putting the video card back in just for kicks and with it in, it doesn't go into POST at all, same as earlier.

Sounds like the only thing that you have not tried is your ram.
Try running one stick only at a time and what bios are you using?
In the bios set AGP for the vga card.

hmm thanks for the notice

oh .. i have some information (dont know whether useful or not)

first time my board arrive..
i installed all my component..
fire up..

no booting..
just blank screen..
fan running, all running.. but no display or beep at all..
getting frustated.. but finally i found the culprit

it was the AGP slot.. which when i push down my AGP card fully, it will not boot.. but when i raised it a bit.. i will boot.. and smile was on my face..

easily re-do this symtom.. just full press my agp.. it wont boot again..
maybe someting with "not standard" AGP slot
( it has no AGP lock, the PCIe has a lock)

maybe some of the guy here (which the board DOA) have the some problem...

just my 0.02$

Gah, I was already excited that maybe it was this all along but I tried and I tried and got no result.

A great find nevertheless, I hope people can use it.

Has anybody tried this mobo with 800mhz DDR2 or does this support only 553/667/400 mhz memory?
As far as I understand, this board doesn't "officially" support 800mhz DDR2 but for future overclocking needs (with a 'proper' mobo after I switch to PCIe vid card) the 800 mems would probably be better than 667...

Turned the following on per suggestion above:

Advanced Host Conf:
Pipeline DRQCTL - Enabled

Speeds went up about 400MB/sec on Sanda 2007 memory bandwidth test!

DDRII 667.

I think that the tightest possible timings for DDR2 on this board are 3-2-2-5.
You might want to try that straight up and loosen it if system fails to boot up.

i have a question

does this NB (PT880U/P) need good cooling or not, i add a smal fan on top of the asrock stock NB HS,

actually in software monitoring in MB temprature, what temp does they read? i have 35-36C on MB temp, is it the NB temp?

ok i will try that, thx Mr Vain.... i hope this day i can receive this memory and try it.
now with DDR PC2700 normal timing and oc to 2,1GHz i got superpi 1M 28s, is it ok?
so far i just try memtest #5 passes 10 pass ok, dual prime95 blend 20minutes no error.
sisoft sandra memory bandwith about 4600. the others bios settings are like what are you suggest. agp aperture only 128mb because my memory just 512mb.

when i change this memory to DDR2 PC5300, should it will be better? if i change to 1GB memory should i increase the agp aperture size to 256mb? what else bios setting i need to change?

my cpu temp (speedfan) always under 50c, but i see only 1 cpu temp in speedfan, something wrong? case temp 35-39c
im planning to give a small fan to northbridge because its warm enough.....
same question with arielp here.....

thx in advance.

Thought i would add to this question, i have 2 ide drives and 2 sata drive and 1 ide via external using usb thats 5 drives plus a DVD burner. All running on a antec true 480 without issues. Have it overclocked to 310FSB with a 7900GS@680/720. It took me a bit to work out why my new 7900GS would not let me overclock like my old 6800Gt AGP did, i change the bios settings to have pci to sync with cpu, it overclocked back up to 310 and was happy. That's were i am at, i will tweak it as time goes by.

I have problems with my 2x512Mb kingston 667 Mhz,when i put the FSb sync With memory at 266,the system freezes in windows.

But now,i have the memorys at 726 and fsb at 290 and work fine...

Why?

hi....
i already change my memory from DDR 2x256MB PC2700 to DDR2 1x1GB PC5300
Kingston value RAM (taiwan chipset, not hynix). because i will give my
DDR1 to my bro.
when i set to auto timing, CPUZ detect 3-3-3-9. then i set them in
fixed timing with command rate 2T.
but everytime i set flexibility disable, i got freeze everytime i
play games. not stable at all.... if i set flexibility to enable
it's ok but i know there are some performance decrease...
sisoft sandra 2007 memory bandwith only give me 3600, my DDR1 was
able to reach 4600.
what should i try?

which one is better for gaming:
1. lossening timing (maybe 3-4-4-12 or what? please tell me) with flexibility disable
or
2. 3-3-3-9 with flexibility enabled ?

or i got a problem with this new memory?not compatible with mobo?
please help what should i try to optimize my pc......

thx in advance.

I have the same problem...my memorys kingston KVR 667 don´t work at 533 in dual channel, but works in single channel and work at 726Mhz in dual channel very good.
I think this moterboard are not compatible with kingston KVR dual channel at 533.

When you put flexibility option enabled, the memorys work at 210Mhz...

IF SOMEBODY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM,PLEASE CONTACT WITH ASROCK HERE

EDIT: Disregard, I found out it was just the temp probe interfering with the cpu some how, I removed the probe and everything fired up great. I can't wait to start overclocking a little bit. I'm going to push it as far as I can on stock vcore, then I'll do the first pin voltage mod. Thank you intel for making the 775 socket easier to mod than the 478! I'll update after awhile...

Well i just got done reading this entire thread, really good info, but nothing has helped for my problem yet!

For starters heres what I got PD 805, pqi DDRII-667 1gb X 1, 420watt PSU 12v1 @ & 14a 12v2 @ 14a, XFX Ge6800xt AGP

At first I couldn't get the system to recognize my video card at all, so I swapped in an old radeon 8500LE and got the system to post. I installed XP pro and got a few programs installed. Now i really wish I had updated the bios at this point, stupid me! After this I put in my 6800xt and it worked fine, installed all my drivers and proceeded to launch some BF2....freezes. So I'm thinking onboard audio issues after I read this thread. Well that would be great if I could get the system to stop crashing. Now whenever I boot the system, it posts, starts to load windows (sometimes it doesn't get this far) screen goes black, system turns off. Then I try to start it again and it won't even post. Then I can reset the CMOS and it will post again, lasts for about 20-30 sec's before system powers off again. At first I was thinkin bad PSU, so I tried another one to see if anything changed, no difference.

I ordered another PSU off of newegg, but now I'm starting to think it may be something else, ie memory or something else. I have tried the radeon as well and still get the same problem. I've tried disconnecting all my aux drives and unnneccesary sources of power draw. Still no change. I'm going to see if I can get my hands on an old DDR stick (unfortunately I only have RDRAM sitting around). Any suggestions to try? It's pissing me off now because I'm trying to change bios options but when I save and exit the system just powers down instead of resetting like before...whats that all about?

@uly166
how do you set it to 726MHz? what chipset is in your KVR 533? my friend tell me that hynix chipset is good enough for compability...... is it correct?
if it is correct i will RMA it to the hynix one.....

yes, flexibility enable = low bandwith in sisoft sandra memory bandwith benchmark.
but when i try CS-Source it has no affect (or very little) for FPS i got 152-155 at CPU Fsb 286MHz. can you tell me flexibility enable penalty % for gaming?

i already try last night, set timing to 5-5-5-15 flexibility disable = freeze
but my CPU Fsb at 286MHZ...

i haven't try cpu default clock at that timing.....

my DDR better than my DDR2 in this mobo

i hear from other forum tell me that right now Asrock is made by ECS (not Asus anymore).
check your "silk screen" label.

Hello everybody. I have a question...I want to buy a 2 x 1Gb pc6400 memory kit for this mother, but read a lot about compatibility problems.

I can find this memory (here in Argentina)

G.Skill

F2-6400PHU2-2GBNR (1GB x 2) PC2-6400 (DDR2-800) 5-5-5-15 Dual Channel (1.9v - 2v)

Corsair

TWIN2X2048-6400C4 XMS2 (2 x1GB) PC2-6400 (DDR2-800) 4-4-4-12 Dual Channel Kit

Are they good? Do anybody use them? Thanks in advance

Sebastian

Ps: G.Skill are cheaper. Sorry, my English is terrible

For Sata users ....you must install your Sata Drivers on a Floppy when asked during your XP install ...even with SP2, if wanting to use it as the primary Boot Drive.

I had trouble too until I did this ! !
