Yes... clean XP SP2 install on fresh drive.

---------------------------------------------

Another issue unrelated to the Windows issue:
I have Ubuntu 6.10 on an isolated IDE drive also. This morning I was curious as to why my overclock wasn't working in Linux, so I set the BIOS option to Disabled (allow OS to manipulate CPU Freq, or whatever that was). Well, that allowed Linux to run overclocked, but when I set the BIOS setting back to AUTO, Linux will not throttle anymore. It's full time 285. Grrr.
Other than that, Edgy Eft works fantastic on this setup. In fact, it's what I'm using about 99% of the time. I only run XP to play UT2004, as I can't get it to see my registration in Linux. Quake3 rocks, though.

Ok, I guess I'm the guinea pig. I installed the new 2.1 bios and all is well.

Everything works fine and I'm up to 400fsb! lol just kidding.
I don't notice anything different. My Superpi scores are still the same, 1m at 28.514. The only difference I notice is that in the BIOS, the CPU multiplier is now visible (7) but it's greyed out, with no option to try to change it. I'll keep you guys posted if I run into any problems.

I flashed to 2.1 and I gained 200 points on the Sandra Memory Bandwidth test...that's all I've been able to test though...I'll have more time tonight...

Well since you guys didn't have any problems I just flashed to 2.10 and the only thing I noticed was in XP it showed "Found new hardware Realtek High Definition Audio " or something like that even though it was already loaded in XP with the old bios.

the display of CPU Multiplier (grey out) and the "Found new hardware Realtek High Definition Audio " both are already introduced in BIOS 1.90.

i think maybe they already release ver 2.00 internally, but found some bug, and fixed in this release (2.10)

i havent test the 2.10 yet. wonder whether it will give slight performance boost or not on my rig (805, PC2700)

i love this board

the pipeline did the trick 4me also..
using 2x 512 kingston value cl3 at 400hz
from ~3850 i m up to~ 4350 in sandra mem bench.
also gave me 1.5 sec in super pi 2mg.

my memory timings are all 3 except 2 that only go up to 2( like 2T),
and the two with the many values at 12( didnt touch advanced.)
there is a way to go 4sec better in super pi but i cant remember the settings (advanced)

but what you need with old memories and a core duo is ways to up the bandwinth
not beter response timing.. you will get more fps using all core2duo power and been stable.than the 3fps beter response will give. super pi isnt a good way to test that.

even if core duo is only at 1033mhz buss, the calculated bandwinth ,that the cpu can NEED at her max is 4450mhz so for no botlenecks you need a memory setting that can be at least 1/1 with that.

it would be good 4 all if euryone using this board put his stable memory settings in here..

The new 2.10 BIOS ROCKS!!!!
My computer had been freezing at least 5 times a day and I had alot of trouble with the USB as well. I have 2 X 512 DDR2700 and it runs pretty smoothly. I read somewhere that the performance for DDR2 is only 5% better than DDR one, so I decided keeping the old blocks, am I wrong on this?

Anyway, after flashing to the new bios all my problems dissapeared and it has not frozen ever since

good for you..

flashed to 2.10 last night.
no performace different..
benchmark with everest only gave me 1-2MB boost on Memory Read/Write (very not significant.) hehehe

FWIW its good to have a BIOS update.

Does anybody know if this memory would work?

OCZ Gold XTC PC2-6400 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-800 CL5-5-5-12 240PIN DIMM Dual Channel Memory Kit

BTW, my system is working great. It's rock solid and double prime stable at FSB 312. I'm using just one 512 MB stick of Corsair XMS DDR 450, which I have owned for about four years now. I have set the timings at 2 2 2 T1 and have had zero issues with it. The memory frequency is set in the bios at 166 with flexibility off. CPUZ shows the FSB at 312.3 and the memory at 195.2.

1M Super Pi 1.50 is 25.5 sec.

CPU = E6400

I forgot to menton a strange problem that I have had for some time. I have had installed a couple of new programs lately:

Paina Shop Pro XI
Google Earth
Sisoft Sandra

The thing is, when I execute one of the programs after having had them installed, they load a bit, and then absolutely nothing happens. I have tried uninstalling them and installing them again, but it makes no difference.... I use Panda Antivirus/Firewall and I have cleaned up with Adaware. Anyone knows what can be wrong?

Hey guys, this is my first post on this forum! I just bought this mobo along with an E6300. I'm using fairly generic (label says patriot PC4000) 2 x 512BM ddr400 memory, and an x800xl aiw. How should I go about overclocking? Do I just increase the fsb? I've read a lot in this thread but everyone has different specs. Is it any different if I'm using the e6300 with ddr400 ram?

Hello all,

Another new poster here. I have just tried to get this board working with a E6600, 1GB DDR1 and a 6800GT (AGP), but I can't even get it to power on...

During my many attempts, I've heard a couple of 'squeaks' from the power supply, almost as if it was going to power on, but stopped. A couple of times I?ve also seen the fan on the heatsink go round a little, but also stop.

The power supply is a Zalman 460 w, and I suspected it might not be up to it for some reason, so swapped it around with another a Seasonic 500 w, but still nothing. The Zalman also powers up my AthonXP based system just fine.

I?ve tried re-seating the CPU and only powering up with minimal components, and two other AGP cards, but still nothing. I know all the other parts work fine, but don?t have another Intel testbed to test the MB and CPU.

Does anyone have any ideas on this please?

Many thanks

there maybe a short with the motherboard and the case , so i suggest taking the board out and putting it in again.

People with the E6400 can you do us a quick check and tell me what temp your cpu is running at and what your ambient temp is i have my FSB @289 and my temp is 45c and my ambient is 22c , i have reseated and re-applied thermal paste that many times its not funny . so im wondering if this is the norm im using stock Heatsink and fan.

even if your temps look bit normal 2 me
there is a case that you also have a glich in the diode on cpu that counts temps.
i have it and many users with differend mobos do.
buying an external way to cound temperatures on cpu is cheap.
but that is if you have a prob..
i sit at 42 idle at 1,86 on 6300..even with differend coolers..
and a 45 max even after 4 hr of oblivion.(those counted at summer)

btw if you pass 60 you are cooking the cpu.
internal cores are much higher..

after using different hardware settings did you remove the bios battery?
you need 2 test a differend memory also.
but if i didnt know all my money bet was on a gpu prob..it fits the system responce..
may there is a prob with your mobo.

I've got the E6400 and using MBM5 the average idle temp is 36c give or take a degree with a similar ambient temp.

This is with the stock heatsink/fan and the original thermal gunk removed and a thin layer of Arctic Silver 3 in it's place. It usually maxes out at around 47c(stock speed) for most intense apps but has hit 50c under extreme load when overclocked to 300fsb.

I'm using a Sycthe Samurai Z on my e6400 @ cpu 285 that hasn't gotten over 40 on load yet, but it's hard to say really; I have scaling enabled, and most of the time it's around 1.6Ghz and in the low 30's. (using Edgy Eft Ubuntu 6.10).

On the WIndows XP side, it's the same pretty much.

I also have a side cover cpu fresh air duct, one of the best (and not praised enough) passive inventions going. Outside air can drop your cpu temps by 10 Deg. C, I've been doing it for years.

I used to just leave the side off my tower and it kept it real cool but with a puppy running around now I had to put the side back on... didn't want the pup to be chewing on wires or getting stuck in fans, lol.

Well Everyone i have found the first problem with Bios update 2.10.
I installed the update and everything was fine until i started playing Fear Extraction point and Need for speed Carbon i started noticing graphic corruptions with the images , at first i thought it may of been my GPU was overclocked to much then i thought it may of been the overclock with the CPU After doing a complete reinstal of windows it kept happening and i was just going to RMA my Gainward card when i thought i would drop the bios back to 1.90 and voila no more problems. so if you having issues drop back the update .
If you are fine good on ya lol.

I just thopught id let you know guys.
