Gary, are you going to be testing with the 1.5 bios? If not then let me.
And if possible could you tell me you bios settings (the ones different from default) if you get the memory working properly and stable?

Thanks for the quick response.

Hello,

anyone using a ATI PCIe VIVO card, like the Gigabyte X1600XT VIVO, with this board?

I installed the card and there are no VIVO devices. Could the missing PCIe Lanes be the cause. I guess there should be devices like 'ATI WDM Rage Theater Video' or something. I checked the card and it defenitly has a Rage Theater chip.

I also contacted Gigabyte but didn't get any answer till now.

Bye Jan

Ok, I'm a crazy odd one, and I haven't been able to find an answer.

I read somewhere that it is possible to hook up 4 monitors to this motherboard at the same time (2 to the AGP card and 2 to the PCI-e card).

Now not considering the performance hit in doing so, and not playing games, but does anyone know if the 4 monitors are hooked up - they will be unique (desktop extends to all of them), or are 2 monitor's mirrored?

I just happen to have some extra monitors lying around, and I was thinking this geek factor may impress some of my non-female friends, LoL.

Video editing in 2 windows, surf on the 3rd, and IM on the 4th?

I'm pretty sure that you can't use the PCI-e and AGP at the same time.
I'm definitely sure that you can use a dual slot solution for PCI-e and then use the AGP as the AGP will be covered.

And I agree the geek factor would impress. It would be great if women found it as attractive as a fast car though

This may help answer part of your question from the chipset manufacturer.

Well seems my Asrock -VSTA is DOA =(

just got it via fedex - popped in the conroe, and some DDR ram and an AGP video card - when I plugged in the power the CPU fan started but no post beep - strage, so I swapped ot the ram, same thing - no post or display

reseated the CPU twice - nothing

shorted the cmos jumpers and now won't even spin the CPU fan

went to Best Buy - picked up a top of the line Antec - No joy

SHOOOOTTT!!!

there's a few more things I can try - but looks like I will have to RMA

Bios chip sticker has ver 1.1 on it

anyone have suggestions before I RMA it??

Run it out of the case with bare minimum attached. Sounds like a mainboard/case stand-off is shorting out the board maybe.

EDIT make sure you plug in the AUX P4 power 4-pin connector located at the top left of the board or it wont run.

Yes, thanks for the suggestions

I removed the board from the case - installed plastic standoff's to keep the board off the table
made sure I was using the AUX 4 pin connector - but still couldn't get any sign of life out of the board

filled out the New egg RMA form *sigh*
paid extra to have it fed-exed to me,,,, GRRRR

damn murphy's law

got the Asus P4P800-VM back in the case now with the new PS and the Segate 320GB I recently picked up, really happy with the new PS even though it did cost me an arm and a leg - it's beautiful with removable cables

going to try and keep a jumper on the cmos for awhile and see if that helps

ONE thing I did notice - there was no lock down lever for the AGP slot, so I really think I got a reject that they decided to box up anyways

going to write a nasty letter to asrock on this one

1 thing I have not been able to try is a different CPU..........hummm

They don?t come with lockdown levers on this motherboard and it makes it easier to remove and install my AGP card in my opinion.
It?s too bad you got a DOA board very unusual.

My Asrock 775Dual-VSTA rocks!

I have a 3 GHz 530Prescott in at a max stable (234FSB = 3510 MHz) on
Geil DDR2 667Mhz 2GB dual channel value ram

WOW (510 MHz Overclock) with no voltage increase! (Happy Happy.)

GUY'S this 667 MHz DDR2 Ram is incredible! No compatibility issues and runs out of the box by SPD at 3-3-3-9 1T Wow!
http://www.geilusa.com/proddetail.asp?linenumber=52

Pity that Anandtech did not try this ram out on their 775Dual-VSTA tests!
Tom?s hardware speaks highly of it. It achieved the highest overclocking margin of all their rams 41% and maxed out at DDR2 942Mhz :Q
http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/04/11/live_memory_test/page20.html

I have it now on 3-2-2-5 1T on auto voltage with no stability issues at all.

I hope its not late and that Gary can chuck in a couple of these Geil slabs in, for his last Asrock roundup and be very surprised by its performance.

Hi, I just ordered this mobo from newegg.com w/ a E6300 CPU. I'm wondering if the mobo comes with C2D support in the BIOS or do I have to find another socket 775 CPU so that I can do the BIOS update?

I tried Corsair TWIN2X2048-5400C4 2GB DDR2-675 Kit (2 1gb sticks) in it and it was unstable (XP setup would not run) and showed 1536mb in single channel mode and showed slot one empty. I put in my old 1gb DDR333 (2 512mb sticks) and it worked great showing 1gb dual channel mode. I tried the 2gb DDR2's several times swapping the two sticks in the two DDR2 slots and it always showed the same 1536mb single channel mode. I even had the latest 1.50 bios so I RMA'ed the 2GB DDR2's and lost close to $50 (15% restocking + Fedex shipping).

I see the 2GB GEIL PC2-5300 667Mhz DDR2 Dual Channel Kit is compatible using the 3 GHz 530Prescott in the 775Dual-VSTA so I wonder if I should get that and see if it will work with my E6300 C2D. I am also using an 8x AGP ATI AIW 9800 Pro, PC Power & Cooling 750w Silencer PSU in an Asus Vento 3600 case.

Could the problem be caused by a bad DDR2 slot on the MB or just the incompatible DDR2 memory ? The last time I checked Corsair the 775Dual-VSTA was not in their database yet for checking compatibility.

What does this new bios do?
On the Asrock site it says "Support new clock gen.".

Does this means you can clock higher than 340Mhz FSB?

Yesterday i ran into trouble with the Asrock: winxp freezes while loading:-(
When I uninstall the catalyst 6.7 driver, it boots up again. I removed all extension cards, loaded bios defaults, reinstalled winXP, same behaviour: only boots up when catalyst is not installed.
The ATI cards works in another PC... so i think the asrock is the cause. The strange thing is: a day earlier, the same system worked completly stable.

Is it an AGP or a PCIe card?

If it's a PCIe-card, better check here to see if it's supported?
(Although that list is far from complete and if your card isn't mentioned it doesn't have to mean anything at all )

From what I heard the E6300 clocks quite well, but this board has two faults:
* It only goes up to 340Mhz FSB
* You can't adjust the CPU-voltage.
(If I heard things correctly).

So basically you're stuck with 2,4Ghz. Which isn't that bad

It's an AGP card. I will try a different PSU later, maybe that helps...

My ATI XT850PE AGP card works perfect without any problem?s using catalyst 6.7.

Maybe the card's processor or ram is set to high on the ATI Overdrive in the catalyst control centre. Set it to default and if it?s on overdrive.

did you set the motherboard bios to boot with AGP enabled? otherwise it may be trying to boot from the pci-e slot first.

Tried both settings, made no difference.

Set it to default and if it?s on overdrive.
I did not change any driver settings after reinstalling windows.

Trying another PSU and RAM did not help either. I will go to the computer shop tomorrow to get a replacement.
