And when I say wouldn't post, I mean that Bios showed up but froze before recognizing my hard drives. Did it twice, so I reverted.

Question: If I use Conroe 1066-CPU on 775Dual-VSTA. What kind of memory should I use?(5/24/2006)

Answer:If the BIOS version is P1.00, we recommend to use DDR400 and DDRII667 memory module; however, BIOS version is P1.10 and later can support DDR400, DDRII533 and DDRII667, so if you will use DDRII533 modules on your system, we suggest you update bios to P1.10 or later version.

Maybe you have to overclock in order to use the DDR2-800 memory to get it to work properly and when you do perhaps the bios is generating incorrect information. Just a thought.

I tried it and didn't see ANY real differences. I gave it a go though mainly just to see if quiet fan had been re-activated.. It hadn't!... So I reverted back to BIOS 2.10.

Thanks for the update, Mallet. I'm glad I bought this ram

For those still interested in which boards shipped with ultra chipsets, I discovered today mine indeed contains an Ultra.
I purchased it from Newegg mid-december. It is a rev1.02 and shipped with 2.10 bios.

guys, can you help me out here.

Whenever using a optical mouse, both in the USB and PS2 connection (with adapter) the mouse freezes after 5-20 min. and the light on the mouse (microsoft) goes out. My ball mouse doesn't have that problem. It's not USB though. But I don't really like ball mice :-/
I'm using Bios 2.4, had same problems with 2 previous Bios'es.

I'm getting a new PSU this week. Old one is only 350W, but I don't think that's the problem though, but it might help.
I've tried two other USB mice so it's not the mouse that's the problem. Any ideas

Sounds like your system is freezing. Can you use your keyboard when this happens? Are you overclocking? Are you using an SATA drive? I got the same problem after installing my SATA drive. I fixed the issue by turning vlink speed to normal, and reducing my PCI speed to 100 (default), plus IDE strength at normal.

System is not freezing. I can unplug the mouse and replug it and most of the times it'll start working again......for another 5-20 min. , or I can plug the ball mouse in after the freezing and it'll start working using that.
I'm not overclocking due to only having a 350W PSU and DDR 333 RAM. I don't have a SATA drive either. I'll look at vlink and IDE stength. I presume that's in the BIOS?

I was told by someone that the board only lists DDR2-667 because it was the only one out at the time of the board

The bios only lists 667 and 533 so it will slow it down to those speeds. It will probably work, but just at slower speeds.

Weird. If your mouse works on other boards without problems, it's obviously your mobo. I did have the same problem with a Rosewill usb keyboard (actually still having problems with it) where it turns off every once in a while. Have to restart to fix it. Happened at home (775dualvsta) and on my Dell work computer, so its isolated to the keyboard :/

I just swtiched my system to a e6300 and dual vsta board. I have 2 gb ddr- 400 ram. My old system had a 9800pro agp card, well i have tried to switch the card over but no matter what i do it will install into windows, and even work for a while but the moment i install drivers and switch the display to anything higher than 800X600 the computer freezes. The hard drive makes a weird booting or power up and down noise and the computer restarts. When it boots back into windows all it gives me is a black screen with the mouse arrow, and then it restarts 10 seconds latter after not making it anywhere into windows. I have the newest drivers for the via chipset and the newest ati drivers. The card worked perfect on my old system, and a nvidia 5200 agp card works in the vsta board. What can it be?

Specs on card ati 9800pro agp 128mb. power connect on card for power supply.

Thanks for any info or advise.

Will

Weird. I'd update the bios to 2.1 if you haven't. Then I'd try drivercleaner to get rid of old display drivers, then install Omega display drivers. See if that fixes it.

What's the supposed newer version of this coming out? Does the new one have PCI-E at least x8? Because x4 seems... worthless.

Isn't there like a ~3-4% difference between x4 PCI-E and x16? I wouldn't call x4 worthless...

For mid-range cards, yes. High-end cards can well exceed 10% in some benchmarks, but probably no more than 20% in any case.
