Windows works fine, i can do anything i want and even benchmark and test everything no problems. But after i reinstalled windows whenever i play games the keyboard lags or is really far behind. I have tried everything and even tried switching back to 2.1 bios from 2.6. This only happens in games, also a system interrupt controller came up but when i redid the bios it went away. I have tried every driver there is from VIA and asrock. Is this board dead should i just rma it? What could it be.

Also when i try to boot up windows again now it find errors with the disk i used not more than a week ago, that i know works because i have used it on 3 peoples computers in the last 2 weeks and i have tons of copies of the disk. It tells me on start up that it is missing nld.something or ntr. But it will not let me boot into the windows cd. Then if i try any other cd's it finds errors. What could this be.

Does this sound like its problem with the processor or the mobo?

You said "reinstalled windows", did you formated the disk before? When I tried to reinstall win on this board without formating I also got strange problems (for me network not keyboard) and after some days lot of errors on hard disk. In the end I formated and all was well again.

I'm having a problem though. First off I'm not doing any overclocking, and I'm running a D915 processor. The initial install of XP works fine with my DRAM set to 200MHz in the BIOS. Once I install SP2 though and reboot, the system crashes and reboots at the username screen. If I go into the BIOS and change my frequency to 166MHz, then everything works fine. I'm using Inferion memory. Am I missing a setting that I need to change? No drivers have been installed at this point other than what's on the CD that comes with the Mobo. Any ideas? Thanks.

I believe I have narrowed the problem down to the Catalyst drivers. I tried everything under the sun in terms of BIOS settings last night and still could not getting it to run at 200MHz. It will run stable at 266MHz though. I think at this point I'll use my memory at 266MHz or just get DDR2 memory. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. Below is my setup.

CPU: Intel Pentium D 915 2.8 Retail
Motherboard: 775Dual-VSTA BIOS Version 2.60
Memory: Infineon 2x256 Paired 184 Pin DDR400 (HYS64D32300GU-5-B)
Video Card: ATI AIW 9700 Pro AGP
PSU: 430 Watt
HDD: PATA 100 Seagate 80Gig
BIOS Settings: All set to default except RAID is set to Non-RAID, DRAM
Frequency settings set to 200Mhz and not AUTO (DRAM voltage tried at all settings, and AGP settings (AGP set to 8x, write memory set to enabled), AGP voltage tried at ever setting.

No other cards installed

Also, I'm going to purchase a 2x1GB kit of DDR-II fairly soon. I'm currently using 2x512 MB DDR-I. Even though this board only supports DDR-II 667 does it make sense to go with DDR-II 800 for a more future-proof investment?

Does C2D and this motherboard in particular prefer tight timings or does it really matter?

I have the same startup boot problem you describe except for me it does not matter which bios I use...interestingly, what fixes it for me is unplugging my powered usb hub from the motherboard...I have three of the four usb ports used...as soon as I plug it back in, it pauses again...and I have a 480W power supply so that can't be it...

I have some questions on flashing the modded 2.60a bios. On the Setup tab of the flasher program, under block options, it lists the following options: Program All Blocks, Main BIOS Image, Boot Block, and NVRAM. The flasher program automatically selects Main BIOS Image.

Shouldn't all the other options also be programmed also or should I just use what is selected by default? I'd like to hear from those who have done this already. Thanks.

Say, has anyone attached a heatsink to the southbridge chip on this board yet? I just got a replacement board from Newegg after my first one failed last week (would power but wouldn't post-new mobo fired right up after installation). I do a lot of drive-intensive work (photo processing, video, yadda yadda) and I think my first board failed due to the southbridge overheating; I had an old 865-chipped mobo that did the exact same thing, and I installed a heatsink on it's replacement and it went on to serve me well for a few years. I wanted to do the same here, but the southbridge on the 775Dual has that silver logo sticker impressed into it and someone with more experience with hardware told me I couldn't even try to remove it as it's literally pressed into the surface of the chip. And if that's on there, then the chip wouldn't have any good contact with a heatsink. Anyone got any ideas?

How warm does the sticker get? If it gets fairly warm, then a heatsink will probably still be able to do its job
with the sticker still on, just less efficient. IMO, I don't think you have anything to lose by trying.

I used the default settings. In the instructions page it says that if you have problems, you might try the 'Program All Blocks'.

Babefish can translate the page (and the translation makes sense mostly too).

Something strange happened to my board this morning: I can't tell why, but I decided to set 4 way interleave (as my memory is rated) by myself, even if cpu-z showed the same on "Auto". That moment the computer refused to post any more, and after power up power down it changed mem timing from 1T to 2T and posted & booted without problems. But, on each reset the same happened, did not post a.s.o.
I changed from 1T to 2T, but still no post, so I put again bank interleave on auto, and everything is fine.

All the time cpu-z showed the same 4 way interleave, so I am totally confused:
Is cpu-z accurate in reading interleave?
Is there a bug in bios (2.60) related to interleave?

Did anybody noticed something similar?

FYI for those that have this problem: It is a Vista problem and not a mobo problem...there is a hotfix for this problem although it is not posted on M$ site...google for it...

Anybody know if this Sapphire X1900GT PCIe will work?

It sure looks like a great deal:

X1900 GT at NewEgg

I've been burned with a Sapphire X600XT PCIe that I can't get to work at all. And I notice that AsRock doesn't list any Sapphire's as approved. Has anybody got a Sapphire anything running right in their PCIe slot? Any thoughts about this card in particular?

Appreciate the feedback.

CPU-Z does not read this chipset properly use HWINFO32 or Everest etc.

OMFG!!!!
Its simply Great!!! Now I'll buy another 7600Gs / 7800Gs card to check it out!!!
I truly hope that ASrock programmers will notice this and make some nice BIOS for mobo capable doing this ( including 775Dual-VSTA ) ...

Only mismatched thing in this new wawe is cooling. If two Graphics cards will so close to each other, threr will need some solution for them
Maybe some heatpipe or smtg ..

Hey All,

New member here.

I have built 3 computers based on this mother board for friends and family and all three are running great.

E4300
EIDE drives on Primary channel
DVDRW on Secondary channel
2GB OCZ Platinum DDR2
7900GS

Fast forward to build number 4:

E4300
2GB OCZ Platinum DDR2
New 320GB Seagate SATA II drive (No EIDE drives on Primary channel)
DVDRW Drive on Secondary Channel
7900GS

I run MaxBlast and can see and setup the drives full capacity.

When I go to install Windows XP, the install only sees 131GB of the 320GB drive. If I try to install Windows, it will only freeze and never install.

I put an 80GB hard drive on the Primary channel as master and could completely install Windows and could see the full SATA drive and use it within Windows - no problem.

Why can't I make my serial ATA drive the boot drive and insall Windows when I remove the EIDE 80GB drive?

FYI, I have made sure the SATA drive is the highest in the boot order in BIOS and also set to Non-Raid.

The original XP only sees 137GB of any drive (131GB in practice). You need to install XP SP2 or VIA_IDE_MPD_V320b to see the full drive capacity in Windows. The VIA IDE tool performs a similar function to the Intel Application Accelerator in this regard.

But in all of my past experiences, if I use the hard drives setup disk tool (Maxblast) to make the whole thing available to the XP install (By creating a DDO - Dynamic Disc Overlay), then the XP install will see the whole disk and install it as such. It's only after windows is installed that you need SP2 to access the whole thing within the OS.

You need to install XP SP2 or VIA_IDE_MPD_V320b to see the full drive capacity in Windows.
And I would strongly advise not to use the VIA IDE Accelerator unless you're using pre-XP OS on older legacy VIA Southbridges (686A/B, 586B, et. al.). This driver isn't well known for stability and can create more problems than it solves. It was retired years ago.

This board uses the VT8237A and supports 48-bit LBA. No need for any DDO utilities or special drivers. Just use SP1 or later for XP, SP3 or later for W2K (48-bit support must be enabled manually in the registry for W2K).

The VT8237A SATA controller has a bug with auto-detecting SATA 3Gb/s drives. The Seagate drive should have a compatibility jumper for use with SATA 150 controllers.

I really wish I knew why I can't install Windows XP with this motherboard when only a single SATA II drive (Jumpered to SATA I) is present. Doesn't look like an answer is available.... Just fudge around with everything untill it works...
