Has anyone here been able to get S3 standby *with fans turned off* using latest BIOS (2.7)? Someone else has reported that S3 works as expected (ie. fans off) for his 4Core board w/1.7 BIOS, but no go for my 775Dual and 2.7 (or 2.7a).

Whoops, nevermind. S3 does indeed finally work for me. I had adde some various registry keys in the config trying to debug it when it didn't work. Took all of them out and now I can S3 as expected (ie. fans all off) and resume from USB mouse. Yipppe!

Some things to try:
1. Make sure your speaker is properly hooked up. Disconnect everything else from the motherboard including the video card, hard drive, memory and any connectors that are not absolutely necessary, including the keyboard, mouse and headers. You should have just the motherboard, power supply, processor and fan, speaker, and power switch connected. (Can't think of anything else you would need).

2. If your power supply has a 120v - 220v switch make sure it's set for the proper voltage.

3. Reset the cmos.

--------------
Power up. You should get beeps from the speaker, if not there's no sense in going on (except to check the speaker).
If you get beeps then install a video card. If you have a spare video card, preferably AGP, try it. If you still get beeps connect a monitor to the video card. You will still get complaints from the speaker but you should at least get some text on your monitor, even with everything else disconnected.
If you get this far then try connecting or installing one thing at a time, (power off, of course) and reset the cmos after connecting or installing major items like the memory. Leave the hard drive for last. When you get to an item that prevents any beeps that should point to the problem.

I had no problems with the latest drivers in XP mode. If you remove the drivers in safe mode and boot is winxp visible without any nvidia drivers installed ? If not then not a driver issue ...

Hello

Big apologies for cross-posting, but as this ASROCK board is the direct ancestor of my Quad Dual VSTA board you guys may be able to help.

My earlier post:
I've just 'upgraded' my PSU from a High Power 360W PSU made in about 2003 to a new Akasa Paxpower 500w PSU.

The High-power was reporting 12v rails of about 11.4 which I thought was a little low.

The bloody Akasa, with dual 12v rails, is registering 11.1! - what the hell's going on there?

I'm measuring with Speedfan & Sandra. The bios claims 11.8 (& 12.1 for the high power)

Anyone have any ideas - should I contact Akasa - the PSU cost 55 pounds. I though Akasa had a decent Rep?

ASROCK Quad Dual VSTA
E6600
6800GS AGP
1x Sata HD
1x IDE HD
1x DVDRW
X-FI
2x1 Gig Geil RAM

Does anyone else have lower than expected voltage rails reported through software monitoring programs such as Speedfan and Sandra?

Running an AKASA 500w PAXPOWER I get 11.1-11.4v on the 12v rail reported by software monitors

Yet it says 11.8v in the BIOS.

I hear that the BIOS reading is more reliable

three questions:

1) Does anyone else notice a .5-.8v voltage reading difference (software vs BIOS readings)
2) What 12v rail readings are others getting - please list your PSU
3) Should I be worried !?

Many thanks for any guidance.

I have the 4core Dual Vsta.

i have managed to install a BFG 8800GTS 320 OC on this system and get it working, though it did take some persuasion

Initally it was crashing, untill i removed overclocking. It works fine in XP or Vista 32bit or 64bit, and playing around with the power to the card i was able to put my clock settings back to what they work. i did have to play around with the PCIe bus speed to get it to work stablily tho, i put it to 111mhz to get it to stop crashing

Im running with a c2d 6300, 2gigs of 5300 memory.

i think power was an issue due to me running 4 hdd 2 optical drivers 1 external optical drive 1 gigbit network card, Digital TV Card and Audigy 2 ZS Plat pro (this runs like crap on vista) ive just started using the onboard sound which does the trick tbh

4 case fans

on a 580w hiper type-r psu,

once getting it stable i was even able to overclock the grx card loads :>

SWEET :>

Thanks apoppin, will try those drivers. Think restart problem was power related, I
had it on a shared power lead with a case fan and cd rom. Its now on its own and
seems fine. I got 8537 on first try at 3D mk5 so will get ATI tool and start to tweak it.

Cheers

System boots o.k and i get into games, Farcry seems o.k but i've only
had the card a couple of days. I tried various drivers then found a couple
of threads from people having the same problem. Once the card needs
more power it falls over if the psu isnt up to it. My old 6800gt was a
dream, but i've sold it . I'm sure the x1950pro is a great card , I managed
to get it through 3dmk05 and got 8300+ marks but I think the power requirments
should be made clearer.

i see

the x1950P *requires* 450w minimum and 30a on the 12v rail is "realistic" even if it is only recommended

does you 600w PS meet the amp requirement? or is it "generic" ?

The label on the PSU says +12v is 24amp so i hope that is my answer,
will post developments when new PSU is fitted.

Cheers

remember Apop, this is only for the AGP models, the PCI-E models can get away with much less powerful PSU's with out any problems.

I've built and sold plenty of systems with C2D's and X1950pro pci-e's (it's a pretty popular combo...but you know why ) that use 400w and 430w antecs in them.

they run stable and the X1950Pro doesn't misbehave when running games or 3Dmark, all PC's built by the company I work for are required to pass a 48hr burn in, if they don't they are stripped and tested part by part...it's time consuming but it limits any warranty issues later on.

I suspect that the difference in VRM's and the Rialto PCI-E to AGP bridge could be the cause of the AGP model's higher power requirements.

both those components get considerably hot on the AGP models, especially the Rialto.

SAPPHIRE X1950 PRO PROBLEM SOLVED,

I changed the airflow so i've a case fan blowing side on to the card, AND
with the wonderful ATI TOOL adjusted the card fan to be at 100% before 50c
is reached. I've had no problem since at stk clock settings. Have run 3dmk05 a
few times and averaged about 8450, played hl2 ep1 maxed no problem and
STALKER on medium but tweaking towards high settings.
