When you say "pipeline" do you mean pcie downstream pipeline?

Enabling the pci-e downstream pipeline for my 8800GTS SSC reduced my 3dmark06 scores by 300-400 points and caused serious artifacting.

Well I've bit the bullet and ordered a gigabyte 965p-ds3r, which I found for under half price. Actually I think its a bit cheaper than the dual-vsta was when I bought it 6 months ago or so.

To tell you the truth theres nothing wrong with the dual-vsta board as such and combined with a stock e6400 it has given me very superior performance compaired my former hardware, which was an athlon xp-mobile @ 2400 mhz (OC'ed not the 2400+ rating) on an nforce2, low latency pc3200 and an x800xt.

My original plan with the dual-vsta was to upgrade to dualcore cheaply and it did let me do that.

I had hoped to get a slight oc a max of 2400 mhz (8x300 fsb) on the core2 and then later upgrade to a better mobo to try to reach to 3200 mhz (8x 400 fsb) when my cpu needs forced me to it.

I probably should have waited to buy a core2 and jumped on the e4xxx class instead to have more use of higher multipliers.

Anybody tried new chipset-drivers(Hyperion 5.14A)? Are they any good?

I noticed that ppl talked about memory-perfs here, i use now 2x1Gb Transcend Axerams, with 3-3-3-8/2T and in "533"-setting, for some reason, 667-setting has never worked in my mobo, errors immediatly. Memorys works too in 4-4-4-10/1T setting, but they are then little slower.

Fsb is 287 and ratio is 1:1, so memorys run in ~580Mhz, bandwidth is around 5800'ish in Sandra's test.

From Mark '06 is get now about 8300p, with 620/950 clocks in my 8800Gts

Anyone know if the manual is right when it says:
- 2 x DDRII DIMM slots
- Support DDRII667/533
- Max. capacity: 2GB

ie MAX of 2GB.

I ask because Tekheads this weekend are doing crazy price on 2GB SIMMS
TekValue 2GB DDR2 800MHZ PC6400 for £19.95 (+ shipping)

Would be nice to get it up to 4GB for a sensible price but obviously ONLY if its going to recognise and use the memory which the manual suggests not.

I tried searching the thread but 4GB 2GB etc arent easy finds.

ATI 3870 work with 775dual-vsta but some peoples must set in bios PCIE DOWNSTREAM PIPELINE --> DISABLE (texture corruption problem)

Twingo: It is working with 775dual-vsta. My sapphire 3870 arrived this afternoon, it took me three hours to put it in, had to take out the AIW x800xt, cut all the watercooling tubing to switch the position so 3870 can fit in. It's working fine with my 400W power supply, I have a FSP Zen 400, which has no fan so it's dead quiet. Ati did a wonderful job for they don't have any compatibility problem like 8800GT has with 775dual-vsta. Well done, ATI!

I have the following budget OC'ing system. I've been using this to learn what I'm doing before I start on anything more valuable.

P805D
ASRock 775Dual-VSTA (PT880 Pro/Ultra chipset)
2 x 512MB Kingston ValueRAM (KVR400X64C3A/512 CL3)
6800 GT AGP video card
450W Codegen PSU
2 IDE hard drives
ThermalTake water cooling system
Windows XP

For the 805D, the stock FSB is 133MHZ (x20 multiplier is 2.66GHz).
I bumped the FSB to 155 (in async mode, ie not changing the AGP/PCI/PICE speed). This worked fine, but 160 would not post.

Since I have DDR-400, and this mobo supports a 266 FSB, I should be able to run a FSB up to 200 MHz without overclocking the memory at all, right? Unless the CPU is restricting things, why can't I get above 155?

This is so far below what others have seen, I thought maybe my CPU needed some more voltage. RightMark listed the voltage at 1.313, so I did the CPU vmod using the VR-Zone / Shamino instructions for 1.3125 defaulters to bump it up to 1.4625. CPUZ then reported a voltage of 1.42 (although RightMark still reported 1.313). Gotta say, learning how VID works and tracking down the 775 pinout was neat.

After all this I didn't get any real improvement though. I can post at 160 MHz, but it hangs before loading Windows (sometimes right after the Windows choose safe / normal mode screen).

I tried a number of different settings, including setting the DRAM freq to 200 or 166 MHz, flexibility enabled/disabled and setting IDE drive strength to High, but nothing changed.

Any ideas what I should try next? Am I missing something?

BTW, when I'm running at 155MHz with the memory set to Auto and flexibilty enabled, RightMark reports my memory as running 5:4 124MHz 2.5 2 2 6 2T. I don't understand why it wouldn't be running 1:1. Did the BIOS determine it would need higher latency? I think stock (133MHz FSB) was reported as 167MHz 4:5 2.5 3 3 7 2T. At 155MHz, setting the DRAM manually to 200/DDR-400, it was reported as 186MHz 5:6 3 3 3 8 2T. I have heard that CPUZ may not report the memory settings correctly. Anyone know about this?

I have tried a stock E6400 in this setup (worked fine) as well as KVR DDR2-667 with the P805D at stock speed (also fine).

Any advice would be appreciated.

Disable flexibility mode, first of all. That might be what's causing the 5:4 timing. Don't use auto RAM timings, set them for your memory's rated settings manually. At 1:1, you are nowhere near stressing the RAM at these speeds. Set the RAM voltage to high in the BIOS.

Stick to CPU-Z, because it correctly reports the speeds and memory settings on this motherboard.

FYI: my 805D on this board went up to 158 FSB without a volt mod. I could boot into Windows at 160, but it would eventually BSOD. Hopefully the volt mod will help.

Nirvana Bios for the 4CoreDual-SATA2 board that if true may also work with the 775Dual-VSTA board.

Looks Like a hidden Via Bios exists that lets you changes all sorts of settings.

Could someone Techy please try it and explain what it?s all about.

I have tried these settings before, but for me i have real problems with them or rather just one of them
In Cpu Configuration
Overclock mode [cpu,pcie Async]
This gives me trouble lock ups or wont fully boot up etc But I can overclock but only in the setting of [Cpu,pcie Sync]
Then my pc runs great overclocks to 296mhz , did try some time ago to go higher but was unstable or didnt boot, but as i have just updated the bios from 2.10 to 2.90 thought i would have a play around again.
Just thought i would pass the info on !

Hi everyone , I just flashed my bios to v3.00 and now even though the CPU quiet cool (or whatever they call it) is selected in the bios it is no longer working but it was in my previous version which believe it was v2.70. Anyone else having problems with it? thanks ..oh if it matters I'm running a E6300

I think you need the modified 3.0a version. I don't know why ASRock disables it in their regular BIOS every time since it works ok when enabled. Strange OEM business we will never understand I suppose.

Thanks for the link...I'm guessing that bios isn't windows installable but the dos one? I babelfished the text but saw no reference to DOS any where. Funny I flashed back to 2.7 then 2.7 but still didn't work and even speedfan wouldn't change it any...Well here I go again re-flashing!

It worked great, guess maybe I was using a mdified one before I flashed it the other day when I used asrocks 3.0. Nice and quiet now. I now realize the option I thought was for the throttling before wasn't. Think there was like 2 more options (speed step and thermal throttling) the the hacked bios has for the throttling that the OEM one took out..Many thanks..

Hi. I need some advice and I think I'm in the right thread so here goes

I've got a buddy with this motherboard who at the moment only has 2x512mb DDR400. We're gonna go to 2x1GB of DDR2 but I'm trying to figure out what kinda is the best for his application.

The primary use of his computer is for audio production, so low latency is extremely important, so from what I do know about RAM, that means I'm looking for the lowest CAS latency. From looking at this article, ASRock 775Dual-VSTA: Does DDR2 matter?, it seems that matching the RAM speed to an even ratio with the FSB produces the best results. He has a E6300 running at 1066, so it seems that DDR2-533 is his best option. Stability is also extremely important so you can count out any chance of needing it to be overclocked.

When I enter those specs into NewEgg, there is only one CAS3 option, which is this one pqi TURBO 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200). The rest are mostly CAS4. But it seems to be in question whether or not the pqi module can actually do 3-3-3-8 timings at 266, even at 2.0v, despite that the manufacturer's homepage says it can. Some users are saying that at 266, it'll be 4-4-4-11.

So I guess I should ask, should I expect any DDR2-533 module to be able to get CAS3 timings at 266MHz? Because if I'm destined to run the RAM at CAS4 that opens up many more options regarding brands and prices, so I could go with my beloved GeIL or maybe a solid set from Corsair.

And besides that question, am I right to be focusing on DDR2-533, or should I consider DDR2-667 modules as well? That article seems to indicate that 533 has a slight edge for this bus speed, so if it's all the same price or less I might as well go with that. If I'm wrong please speak up. i have one of these i bought from new egg open box a while back for $26 . seems to be a pretty good MB except that it's SATA set up is a joke . i have over-clocked it to 313fsbx8 with a e2140 M0 and to 300fsbx9 with a e2160LE . i'm running 2x1gig sticks of ddr400 .

but when i run the ati tool benchmark for my x1900xt i only get 57% of the score i get on my abit ip35e ? could it be the ram in the ip35e is faster better @ 1:1 making a better score ??

has anyone tried the dual-vista @1:1 and benchmarked the vga and compared it to the same set up running ddr 400 async ??

Sparkle announced passive cooled 1GB 8800gt. What got my attention though is they made a point of saying that it would be backward compatible with pci 1.0 and 1.1. Ive heard different opinions as to why the 8800gt doesnt like the 775Dual-vsta, but what do you think? Another wait and see sort of thing, but could be promising if it works and at the right price.


SPARKLE IS causing a twinkle in HTPC?ers eyes by announcing its new Sparkle GeForce 8800GT 1GB Cool-pipe 3 graphics card.

According to the company, it will be releasing this 8800GT card with (as the name implies) 1GB of DDR3 memory and the passive cooling system known as Cool Pipe 3. They didn?t cut on the clocks you'll note. The passively-cooled 8800GT will maintain the 600MHz core clock / 1.8GHz DDR3 / 1.5GHz shader spec from Nvidia, much to the joy of gamers everywhere. Sparkle also claims that this 1GB beast is backward compatible with ?the original PCI Express standard? We haven?t seen anyone actually sticking a G92 card in a PCIe 1.0 or 1.1 slot, but it makes for an appealing selling point for upgraders.

edit: just broke down and bought 2900Pro for $170 at newegg, I dont think I could do much better price/performance wise anytime soon, even with a card that wouldnt work in this motherboard. For my needs I think it will last 2 years, and I can deal with the noise and power requirements for ~$100 cheaper than 3870 or 8800gt. It will require about 50 watts more at full load than my x850xt, and isnt much louder I'd guess.

I have a problem. To get my system ready for my recently ordered hd2900pro I updated the bios from version 1.3 to 3.0 in windows xp. Has big problems with new bios, power supply will just turn off at random, inside bios setup, in windowsxp, in gOS (Ubuntu). I figured out how to make a bootable bios cd and flash back to bios 1.3, everything seems to be back to normal.

Canceled my order for the 2900pro, if theres not a good chance it will work (which I can assume since 3.0 bios made my computer extremely unstable) I'm not going to chance paying for RMA or any other damage that might happen while screwing around trying to get it to work. More waiting :|

Get low latency DDR2667 ram and run it at 533 in bios for low latency results.
This board also unofficialy accepts 800DDR2 and if you run it at 667 or 533 in the bios you get very low latency results and ram that can be more future proof than 533.

I have been using Geil 667DDR2 for over 1 year set @533 for 1.1 @3.3.3.9 and 4.4.4.12 depending on where I have set the FSB.

Make sure you get memory that runs at a stock voltage of 1.8-1.9 Volts or the 775Dual-VSTA won't be able to boot up.

Well, I got myself an ati 3850. Installed it earlier today on the 1.30 bios that my 775dual came with, perfectly stable. Only thing is that there are a few texture corruptions. For example, in crysis, some distant textures are messed up, but when I change to iron sight view they go away, everything else looks beautiful though. Also, the letter "c" and the letter "t" are messed up in game, but not in the main menu. All other letters appear normally.

I have read that this texture corruption problem can be remedied by disabling pcie downstream in the 775dual's motherboard bios. Trouble is the 1.30 bios does not have this option. I had tried flashing to version 3.0 a few days ago with no success, system not stable in windows, can rarely even get into desktop without it turning off.

Today I tried using 2.40 bios, because someone in the 4coredual-vsta thread reported they had no problems with the 3870 in the equivalent bios for that board. (bios version for the 4coredual is a lower number but it has the same description and release date as 775dual 2.40 bios) Had the same problems as before, will crash while loading xp or shortly after getting to desktop.

So, it looks like im stuck with 1.30 bios for now. I have tried 3.0 and 2.4 and had the same problems both times, using both my ati x850xt agp video card, and with my new 3850 pcie. I assumed it might be my ram, it is 2gb patriot ddr2667 cas5 1.8v. In 1.30 bios I use ddr2667 settings, with flexibility off and cas5 no problems.

With both the 3.0 and 2.40 bios I have tried several combinations of settings with seemingly no difference no matter what I do. Computer turns off while loading windows or even in bios settings.

cpu overclock=auto, pcie sync, pcie async
pcie=auto, sync with cpu, 33.33
ram=auto, ddr2533, ddr2667
flexibility=enabled, disabled
cas=auto, 5

Of course I haven't tried every single combination of those settings, but really, I was changing things blindly pretty much, and nothing seemed to make the system any more stable. Anyone have an idea why the settings I use in 1.30 bios wouldn't work in 2.40 or 3.0? Is there some new option these new bios add that I must address? I didn't see much difference other than the added pcie downstream option.

Also, is there a way to disable the pcie downstream some other way? Like some sort of video driver setting?

If nothing else, I will just deal with and try to reduce some very minor texture corruptions that Ive seen in stalker and crysis. If anyone is curious what it looks like let me know and I'll post a screenshot or video. Unreal Tournament 3 runs perfectly, no texture issues that I can see at max settings in 1680x1050. For all I know, disabling the pcie downstream wouldn't fix this anyway. For now, it is acceptable performance to me while I either wait for a solution with this motherboard or I get a new motherboard and swap parts between the 775dual, my p4 motherboard, and whatever new motherboard I buy to get them all running.

HI, 3850 and 3870 have problems in Crysis .. thats no problem with asrock, see ATI forums .. i have powercolor 3870, 775 dual 3.0 bios and all work great (pipeline off)

edit: and power off problem .. what power supply you have ?? you need good 400 watt PSU for this graphic !

It doesnt seem to be any particular sort of texture, any object is fine in one instance, and then all screwed up in another. If I reload a save, a texture that was messed up will be fine again, only to be replaced by something else. The first picture shows the only time Ive seen the characters all messed up, they looked fine before and after that loading that game session.

Power supply is is apevia 500w 34a +12v.

It is fine while using older 1.30 bios, no power off problems just some weird texture issues in different games. It looks like something that could be fixed by different drivers but I have no idea. Different textures will be huge polygon shapes instead of conforming to the models they are attached to. Everything else might look fine except for one or two different objects with certain textures. Fps is fine in these situations but it looks terrible in some games like trackmania or gothic 3, they are unplayable because you cant see what you're doing most of the time.

If the 1.30 bios had the disable pcie downstream pipeline option I would probably be fine. When I flashed to 2.4 or 3.0 bios and use same settings, or try changing ram or cpu or pcie to possibly make it work better, power supply will shut off randomly. I'm really at a loss why this is happening because it is stable in 1.30. I'm using 1.30 bios right now posting this, everything working fine.

Put my x850xt back in, doesnt feel safe to me having the 3850 in there not working properly, dont want to chance damaging it or something else. Theres some wierd 2d stuff going on too thats a bit annoying, text the wrong colors and distorted, finicky video playback that makes monitor go black (no video source).

I'm going to keep the 3850 and eventually get a different motherboard, scavenge the 775dual-vsta for parts, and sell it with some swapped components from my p4 system. I could probably get $500 depending what I wind up doing.

The 775dual-vsta is a great motherboard, and was a fun learning experience for me as my first build. Depending how sentimental I get I might keep this 775 and try to sell my p4 somehow, though there isnt much of a market for the pentium 4 I'm guessing.
