Okay peeps, most of you have had this mobo for a good while now. In general, are you satisfied with this board and have you gotten decent OC's while maintaining stability?

Yes I know...I could read all 20+ pages of this thread and sum it up on my own, but I was hoping a bunch of peeps would be kind enough to save me some time

Thanks in advance!

at 300 fsb.

hope it will do 300 fsb and go

its ok, i could go to 315 with stock cooler about <50c (according to speedfan)
my memory now work fine at 5-5-5-15 DDR 667 flexibility disable....got 4800 in memory benchmark sisoft sandra 2007.

but CPUZ can not recognize my memory FSB, its blank and disable, why?
CPUZ can recognize memory timing only. and its locked at 5-5-5-15 2T. i try to change the timing in bios, but still it locked

Hi All
Just wondering (have had this board and a conroe for over six weeks now and am loving it) if anyone else has found that usb drives drop in and out on this? All drives concerned are 5v self powered 2.5inch 5400rpm's work fine for a while then get errors. Is this a problem with the chipset (using Hyperion 5.10) or are the usb ports heading south (how can you diagnose port failure? used usbview but nothing obvious nor in device manager so abit concerned.
Cheers

I think it depends on your hardware you wish to carry over. For anyone with DDR and AGP this board is the way to go to get your conroe power ... I've been very happy with it, although for OC it seems very dependant on your Ram and not all AGP cards are supported (check first ) Also a decent OC on this board seems much lower than on other boards ... I think summing up all the posts here people get between 290-315 FSB with 300 being the average.

Budarow,

Very happy with this mobo. It runs rock solid and fast @3.31 (orthos stable). I can push my O/C to 3.45, which will run everything I throw at it, except orthos, or prime95. 1M Superpi time is 14 seconds, which is damn fast considering I am still using DDR1 memory.

OK where is the list of compatable cards and memory?
I can't find any.

the old computer has pqi ddr400 low latency memory and an ati 9700..
if the 9700 is not compatable that will be something.

I can run my 2.5-3-3-7 ddr400 memory at 300 and can run memtest without problems...with prime95 however, I top out at 294...this is with relaxed timings...when you people say you can run at 310-315 fsb have you tested with prime95? Do I need to worry about what prime95 thinks?

although the 9700 isn't shown there I would be very surprised if it wasn't supported ... i'm pretty sure someone else here had the same card ... maybe have a look back through these many pages to check ?

EDIT: sorry that link is only for pci-e cards !

yeah i run at 310 but as you say dual prime95 tops out rather quickly ... but since everything else has been running fine I haven't worried about it

Hello, I upgraded my AGP 9800 Pro to a PCI Express 7600GT overclocked edition and there seems to be little improvement in fps in games that I have tried (HL2 Lost Coast and Just Cause).

I ran a test on pcpitstop.com and it said my card was performing at 51% as well as other people's 7600GTs.

Core 2 Duo E6300
Asrock 775 Dual VSTA
1GB DDR400
XFX 7600GT XT
XP 64Bit

Under System Devices in Device Manager the VIA Standard PCI to PCIE Bridge has a yellow icon with an exclamation mark. I have uninstalled it and detected the hardware again but it doesn't go away. Could this be affecting my performanc?

all those ones with occasional system freeze problems at the beginning of this thread did they solve their problem?

I was experiencing the same issue frequently. Tried every hardware/bios combination but nothing. Disabled mboard sound with no result (besides the fact that it's dead now even if turned on - great). I was sure it was a ram problem.. then I noticed that freezes happened mostly while my PCI wireless network card was on (NETGEAR WG311T with Atheros chipset). Made a search in google and found that there were compatibility problems between my wireless card and many past VIA chipsets which was causing the same kind of system freeze. Removed drivers and installed an usb adapter: 24h and any freeze..!
I have also installed an old PCI latency problem patch for VIA chipsets (again), don't know if this really helped.

VIA chipsets are terrible. I had an ASUS with the same chipset before this one: same freeze problem and after 2 days it KILLED my radeon x1600pro. Last time I buy a VIA chipset mboard.

Hyperen ...sometimes when going from an ATI type Card to a Nvidia Card can cause driver problems/conflicts like you are having. You need to uninstall your Nvidia card again ...then run a driver cleaner to remove the old ATI Drivers completely ...then re-install your Nvidia Graphics Card.

Hi, which are recommended DDR2 memorys for this board, i have read from many forums how some DDR2's are not suitable for this board.

And of course, if i change my DDR's(Kingston Valueram 2x1Gb) to DDR2, i would like to see some performance increase too. Cheap(ish) price would be nice too.

Sandra gives me now around 4200 in Mem.bandwidth-tests, my DDR's run now Dual/1T/without flexible/4:3(=220Mhz)/3-3-3-8.

As you can see, i run my 775DualVsta now on 290fsb, i have all voltages/IDE strength high, i tried that pipeline... enabled, but didn't gave any noticeable results, so i put it back to auto.

Benchmarks are not bad even now; ~9850p /'05, >5500p/'06, 121960/AM3, 19.6s/Pi 1M.

That's what I did. I have also tried it on a spare hard disk with a clean windows installation and only get 50% performance. I have got 75% before but that was by changing the PCIE downstream setting in the BIOS from auto to enabled but doing that gave me serious artifacting issues in game. I will see if I can try it on a friend's motherboard to see if the motherboard is to blame.

Ok I will say I love this board for the price. The one that that sucks is odd 20pin power placement and the damn floppy on the bottom. For everyone having problems with this board, or any for that matter, let me share a little story of mine. Some of you may have the same problem. Well I used to run a POS ECS board. Never again an ecs. So recieved this board from newegg and installed it and everything. Worked fine booted fast but one problem. If the pc was running and I would barely touch it or move it at all it would lock up. Consulting all my buddies no one could think of anything except maybe a bogus power supply. So I finally upgraded the power supply and after that it wouldnt even boot. I would get HD activity light but no post, beep, or video display. Changed video cards, no luck. Changed ram no luck. Removed everything but ram and cpu and still no luck. So everyone is telling me dead mobo. Well my gf is totally computer dumb and she gave me an idea yesterday. She said wow if I tried to do all this I would short the computer out and it would never start. Then I thought of something. I took the mobo out of the case and realized I had accidently left an unused motherboard brass offset. It was shorting out the mobo against the case. Removed it and this thing works like a charm. Before I figured this out I ordered an 805 thinking maybe bad cpu. So in a few days gonna have this beast up and overclocked. This solution might sound simple but it eluded some very smart friends of mine. Try it out you never know.

If yours Systems freezes, the solution is
DISABLE THE OPTION pipeline DRQCTL IN BIOS.
But now,i can´t pas the 280 Fsb....

yes i have the bliss 7900gs 512, lets say i dont have to overclock my E6400 to run BF2 with everything on high included 4xAA 1600.1200 getting anywhere between 60 and 100 fps using a tweaked nvidia driver DHzer0point_0.9291-[Guru3D.com to give me better graphics. Using the standard latest driver i get around 100fps constintly.
here is my 3dmark06 score

Hey Palms where do you come from ie country are you from Australia if so do you Visit the Whrlpool Forums? .
Anyway thanks for the input i was just a bit worried because the 775dualvsta board runs at 4x pce speed so you do not notice any speed difference at all ?
Thanks again mateio might get the card then,However only the 256meg card only (Cannot afford the 512megs)lol

and just to recap its the pcexpress version of the card yes?

yep im from australia and on whirlpool all the time. The 7900GS card is not listed on the asrock site as supported but it does work and yes it's a pci-e card .
I got the 512 meg card to future proof it if thats possible, i can only get overclocks of 700/1440 not 650/1600 like some sites say it can. Maybe becaues of the 4x speed for pci-e i have no idea.

So what approximately is the voltage for the RAM when we set it to high? I am using DDR1.
Thanks.

According to a guy on another forum the voltages are as follows:
AGP "high" 1.59v
AGP "low" 1.54v

DDR "high" 2.73v
DDR "norm"2.63v
DDR "low 2.53v

DDR2 "high" 2.0v
DDR2 "norm" 1.9v
DDR2 "low" 1.8v

I do know that setting the RAM and AGP to "high" helped to stabilize my overclock. I am able to run Orthos for as long as I care to at 300FSB now and before this it failed after a couple minutes.

So what's the highest settings you guys have been able to get with this board and a Pentium 805 D. The highest stable settings i can get is 150Mhz FSB and DDR2 667 timings of 5-5-5-12-2T with Flexibility disabled. Anyone with higher overclock what other changes did you make in the BIOS?

Hi there,

I bought this same motherboard a few weeks ago, and was having constant issues with it freezing, suspecting it was the graphics card (ATI 9600XT). However, as soon as you mentioned the wireless PCI card, I decided to see whether removing my own wireless PCI card would improve stability. It sure did!

I ended up connecting the onboard LAN port to a LinkSys Wireless Gaming bridge - not an elegant solution, but now there are no more conflicts between the VIA chipset and the WiFi card, and I can browse the net again and use my PC without it crashing frequently.

Thanks for the tip, dude!

Next stop - overclocking!!!

Hi Everyone,

Are there known problems with PCI wireless network cards and this board? I'm about to buy this board and dont really fancy any pain in the butt problems

My PCI wireless card is a BT Voyager 1040

I'm actually using an Intel 685GLC mobo at the moment which is functioning flawlesly but has some slightly bulging capacitors. Am I moving forward from where I am by buying the Asrock 775DUAL-VSTA mobo or backwards??

TIA
