Not necessary unless you are running Vista or have a Quad Core cpu. In fact, I would say if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I'm tempted to go back to 1.80 from 2.20. My overclocking is gone and it bothers me that the latest bios sets the FSB to 256 by default when it should set it to 266. Weirdness abounds with the latest bios.

Flevio, the Abit VT8 never made it to market based on the seaches I have made to try and find it. http://forums.legitreviews.com/about1594.html
Abit Core 2 Duo motherboards

It's too bad the Asus P5VD1-X does not support the Core 2 Duo. I like that it has four DDR slots and a more space between the AGP and PCI-e slots.
http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=206&model=584&modelmenu=1

The ASRock 775Dual-VSTA seems to be the only Core 2 Duo board that caters to reuse of AGP and DDR.

it will be better idea 2 low down latency timings then disabling duall channel..
epesialy if you have a core 2 cpu..
having a dual channel prob with some other mobo doesnt necesery mean that you will have the same prob with thisone.. the brob with 775vsta will be to set good working values on the memory timings...its alot of them and more..

Can I turn-off dual channel on this mobo ? i have 2x512, but on 400mhz frequency
i have some errors when dual channel is enabled, and i must disable it or turn down freq. to 333Mhz for memory.

Sorry for my english, please help.

munim - pipeline is a memory option in vsta it affects the mem bandwinth very positive when enabled. not agp.

Just got an e'mail back from Asrock this morning over the BIOS quiet fan control not working in version 2.20.....

"Dear Sir,

Thank you for your information.
If FAN speed is tool low, it may cause the temperature of other parts higher.
So we modify the BIOS.

BR,

ASRock"

Don't worry, I've mailed back asking for this feature to be functional in future BIOS's. I guess we'll just have to wait and see though

I see! What effect does this have on stability? Are people enabling this to gain stability or to get more performance? Does enabling it help in overclocking?

munim, none of the above...

Just helps keep it quiet.

Gotta say that I am absolutely delighted with this CPU/Mobo upgrade, it was cheap (£190), quiet and it's highly effective! My old XP-M/NF7 combo was getting really messy as I tried more and more extreme overclocking measures, I just changed the parts, scrapped the watercooling and voila 50% better performance using just one core!

And cool Which does help when OC'ing

However those of us already who already have cool systems like them to be quiet too

The initial respose from Asrock leads me to believe that future BIOS versions may do away with the fan control altogether. I hope not though :Q

orbiter, I guarantee you that the quiet fan option is not designed to keep your CPU as cool as possible!

I set mine to 45 C and it obviously works since neither core will go over 46 C no matter how hard I thrash it. I am using Bios rev. 2.20 and am wondering why some are saying it doesn't work...

Dear All
When I power down the computer for a while, say while at work approx 7-8hrs (so not on but still plugged into the mains) it takes a bit of time to boot up as in POST. I'm running a 2-3 week old power supply (Antec NeoHE 500w) running via the psu calc equipment which needs 390w. On a warm reboot (restart) not an issue and if a cold start is needed goes normally if within 10-20 minutes of shutting down. I'm buying a cmos battery tomorrow I'll let you know if that changes anything............

Specs Asrock Dual VSTA (2.10) 6300, Gainward 7900gs, 2x ide 2x sata dvd burner combo drive Audigy 4 (all latest drivers and WinXP utd)

Edit Once running both in XP and the Bios seems to display no issue with voltage 'spikes' can run Neverwinter Nights 2 with no hiccups at all.

homonculus, BIOS 2.20 is keeping your CPU as cool as possible! e.g the fan is running flat out all the time. If you set it to say 50C (default) does the fan slow down after a short while?

With my D940 the quiet fan control doesn't work with BIOS 2.20. I reverted to BIOS 2.10 for a quiet system whilst still keeping the CPU under 55C. Not too bad for a loaded D940.

Look at Asrock's Homepage. They changed the bios description.

Before

Bios 2.20 Fine tune CPU Quiet Fan function

Now

Bios 2.20 Modified CPU Quiet Fan function to run higher speed than P2.10 bios.

Very observant Sebapolver  I wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't mentioned it. They must know we're on to them now OR they actually responded concerning my emails

My guess: next bios is going to be 2.30 Fine tune CPU Quiet Fan function.

For who says that this function is working properly (in bios 2.20): my fan (Pentium D915 Stock) is running at 2700 rpm-39°C (102°F) idle. I set the temperature limit in 50°C.
I need a bit of silence

Hey noxon,

wow man. You've done an outstanding job. Congrats. Really great results with the MB. I'm at stable 310FSB with an E6400 but that's as far as I've been able to push it.

What settings did you use to get it to 125 FSB?

Damn, you have better SuperPi 1M-time than what i have, with 2.6 i get around 19.5s.

But those others:
(i'm on the work now, so these are what i remember)

05: 9830p (i have to find a way to get this over 10K!)

06: 5520p

Aqua: 124 950p

Hmm. that 03 maybe was around 22-24000p(?).

I have to try that 2.20 bios too, because now(with 1.80) i can't rise fsb more than to 290-293, after that i get memory/etc-errors.

Of course i have only Kingston's Value DDR400's(2x1Gb), so Dual/1T/230Mhz seems to be maximum for them (and 3-3-3-8).

well I got the board. Hooked it all up and it is really a nice setup.
I almost froze in my tracks when I put in the disk and it said 4 in 1.
MAN flashbacks to the old p4 days and what that ment.

Is there any program to monitor temps in windows?

The system will boot initially but after any drivers are installed for the 8800gtx it will get just past the windows loading screen and stay black for about 5 minutes or so before displaying a blue screen about nv4_disp display driver stopped responding.
http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/8884/7169cbced4a7ip8.jpg

Tried the EVGA and ASUS 8800gtx with win2k3, winxp sp2 and winxp 64-bit. Same type of error on all of them except winxp 64 bit, the screen will stay black for about 20 minutes before the system just restarts and repeats. I'll give vista a shot this week since I found some drivers that might work.

Bios 2.20:
Primary Graphics Adapter set to PCI Express Gfx.
AGP settings set to default factory settings
DRAM Frequency set to 333MHz (DDRII667)

System works great with my old agp 6800gt but not quite there with the 8800gtx yet.
