If you can afford an 8800, you should probably spend more than $50 on a mobo IMHO. Will the PCI-4 severely limit your performance? Probably not although no one has tested it yet, as far as I'm aware of. People on here are still getting respectable scores via the PCI-4.

It works great. The PCIe on the board is only 4x but real world performance difference from 16x is barely noticable.

X850XT is a good buy. Get it.

Thanks for the post.
I'm a bit new at this, just how dependant is the vidcard on a good psu. When I connect my x850xt pcie the pc won't boot.I get a black screen and no post beep. When I use my old Ati 9600 agp its fine.
My psu is a Jeantech 400 p
This is on the side of the box

+5v +3.3v +12v1 +12v2
35a 28a 15a 17a
I really need conformation that I'm not going to spend 75 to 100 pounds on a new psu when I don't need to.
Thanks

the 12V rails are the most important for the gpu ... and 15 and 17amps should be enough for a x850 I think so your psu shouldn't be the problem ...

I would reset your CMOS (remove battery or jumper the CMOS reset) and go through you bios settings (making sure pci-e selected). I have also heard of people who had to change this setting first with their apg card before they switched, but i'm not sure about that, still something to try

i will test now with disabled spread spectrum and dram voltage at normal
next i will test dram voltage at high -- if this dont help me i must think about other ratio fsb:ram (1,25 - 10:8 at the moment).
but this memory should run at 800mhz with no probem, i think this is chipset problem ...

i have now 1.80 bios, 2.20 (new) bios should help me with this small o/c ???

You should get better results with Spread Spectrum Disabled - that option is a must for stable overclocking with this board

vangeezer, that Jeantech PSU is a P.O.S. The ratings written on the side will bear no relationship to reality whatsoever, especially so if the PSU* (spit) is a couple of years old.

I've been pushing good overclocks for years now since my original AMD K6-2 500 and one thing I've learnt is that all the trickest bits in the world count for nothing without a stable high quality PSU. My guess is that the X850 is drawing enough current for the supply voltage (12v) to drop so low as to cause the motherboard to stall. This is what happens with cheap switched mode PSU's when they have to supply plenty of current (among other awful things, like how much AC your mobo gets! eeeek!).

I maybe wrong but unless your X850 card is DOA, then not much else will cause the situation you describe.

zaqzax, what did I say about disabling EVERYTHING on the CPU bios page except boot guard! I can't believe you left spread spectrum enabled.

aussieburger, what's your overclock?

Hi there!
It is kinda strange, that nobody is talking about problems with the USB in here. My USB has been incredibly instable. One of my harddrives is often recognized as USB1 if it is recognized at all. When I connected my Nokia 5140i phone with a data cable, the system would crash (blue screen) so many times, that I now dont want to use it anymore.

And that is not all. I have a multicard reader that used to read my sone memorystick card. It also has a USB entrance that seems to weork better than the other ones (front and back) at least it mostly recognizes my USB2 units as USB2. When I wrote ASrock about the problem, they asked me to move the USB jumper, but it just made the system more instable so I moved it back.

But now when I put in my sony memory stick in the card reader it recognizes it, but then it starts loading it again and again, and it is impossible entering the card.

I used to have an Asrock motherboard for my old AMD64 and I delvered it back because the USB was all recognized as USB 1l. At least for me USB is incredibly important, and if it does not work better with the next BIOS update I guess I am going return the motherboard to where I bought it.....

In the beginning I had a lot of crashes with the motherboard and the computer froze all the time. But with the new BIOS updates 2.10 and 2.20 the crashes stopped, but maybe they can be the reason why the USB is so completely ****** up now? Am I really the only one with USB problems?

My system:
E6300
2 512MB Kingston Value Ram pc3200 (DDR400)
ASRock 755-Dual VSTA

thx

LasseB, yes, you're probably the only one having this trouble. Sounds more like a Windows problem to me...Did you do a fresh install, then SP1, then SP2, then all the latest drivers (including device manager updates), then MS update before reloading everything, are you using Nokia PC Suite?

I have a pair of old USB risers plugged into the board, plus the four on the board giving me eight sockets all at USB 2.

I'm incredibly happy with this mobo in every way, E6400 + Mobo = £190 delivered. Best value for money I've had in years!

pkatz, NONE of the monitoring software works properly on this board, your battery is fine. For temps. get this: http://www.thecoolest.zerobrains.com/CoreTemp/

Hi All,

A question for you..Now! Games run great on this pc however in Windows when I close IE screens or run media player small screen I notice a slow down in video visualisations. Full screen its fine but small screen seems to be in slow motion.
I've noticed in my graphics card settings that the 2d core clock frequency is showing ZERO MHz whilst the memory shows 650MHz in 2d and 3d. Is it normal for a 2d setting to show ZERO MHz?

I ask because I've noticed a decrease in performance after updating my graphics from a geforce 6200 to the XFX 7600gs when doing the following....Playing Yahoo pool, Media player 10 visualisations (small screen) Windows screens close slower (almost scroll down) instead of just disappearing.
Fancy features in Windows are turned off. I also noticed a decrease in performance when the XFX 7600 was plugged into a similar system with a 2.4GHz P4. The only thing I havn't changed in both sytems is the is the Eagle 400W PSU however using the PSU calculator this PSU should be ok.

The system shows no errors using DualPrime and scores using AquaMark 3 = 59000 and 3DMark06 = 2500+

The problem still exists when GPU frequencies are set to standard and BIOS is mostly AUTO apart from the obvious like AGP 8x etc...

Any ideas or could this be related to a faulty XFX 7600gs graphics card?

orbiter, is it possible that your 7600GS is overheating and throttling? You really ought to ask the chaps in the graphics forum since this clearly isn't motherboard related. Maybe a driver issue, did you clean up (DCPro) after changing your 6200 out?

finally, i set prime and run it without any errors on 8 hours (manualy stopped)
with setting v-link and ide-strength to normal (that helped me).
today i will try on 290mhz fsb again with the same settings for vlink and ide strength,
i have agp-voltage and dram-voltage on max setting (i would to back on default normal voltages) --> i think vlink and ide-strength is the problem with my O/C

how do you set your ram to 1:1
my ddr2 is on 10:8 (1,25), with 266 default fsb i have 333 (667mhz)
setting manualy to 533 give me 1:1 ?

The 10:8 ratio does not look right. I don't think this MB has this ratio. You are probably using something to read your memory speed that is not working probably. I use the latest version of CPUZ, which is version 1.37. The earlier versions showed weired numbers like yours.

i think is ok, divide 333 (667mhz ram) by 266 (fsb) = 1,25.
is asynchro for maximum ram performance, logical in my opinion.

homonculus, The GPU isn't throttling as far as I know as the temps whilst loaded are approx about 60C max. I'll post in the GPU forum though like you say and see if anyone has any ideas on this.

Cheers

Hi just put in a Hiper type R 580w psu and the pc still will not boot.
I see from your Sig that you have the same mb and gfx card as me.
Don't know where to go now.
Any help would be great

Did you run any Prime95 or anything? I've been a wimp and kept my fsb down where I pass prime95 but if everything runs at a higher fsb otherwise is there any risk for data corruption or anything?

Yes, I ran StressPrime 2004 ORTHOS for 24 hours with no errors. Completely stable.

As far as data corruption is concerned, as long as your system is tested stable and you're keeping your PCI bus close to 33.33MHz, you shouldn't have any problems. That's why people test their systems with programs such as Prime95 or ORTHOS to ensure that their overclocks are actually reliable.
