Could someone clear up the VGA list on the Asrock site. Does it mean the board will only support those Models or any of the listed Chipsets

Card List

ATI Radeon X850XT Gecube Radeon X850XT 256MB <-- Listed
ATI Radeon x850XT ASUS 256MB <-- Not listed

Will the ASUS version work if I was to buy it? I've emailed Asrock about it, but still awaiting an answer (2weeks)

Any help apprecaited

im just guessing here, but the asus ati card might have slightly modded bios's to work with there speical drivers.... causing it to fail to intiliaze the display when the ati drivers are installed.

a flash to the standard ati bios might be required, tho as you havent got the card yet it might be better to stear clear of asus with this motherboard combination if you dont feel comfortable flashing the bios on the ati card.

unless its a PCIe card??? then the problem might not excist

Hope y'all can help a noob.

I have the ASRock 775Dual-VSTA with bios 2.40. I want to "future proof" my 2 GB RAM purchase bacause I will eventually move to an SLI motherboard in a few months. I know this ASRock MB Supports Dual Channel DDRII667 (DDRII x 2 DIMMs) RAM. My question is if I get the CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel RAM, will it work with this motherboard? Will the fast RAM just "slow down" to the maximum speed of the motherboard? Thanks

Short Answer - Yes.

All memory I have bought comes with anything from 2 - 4 sets of timing data. The timing data is written on a chip on the memory itself (Called SPD chip). So for example my GEIL DDR2 800Mhz memory has settings for 200/266/400 Your's will have similar settings - the last one being the highest -> 400 (doubled to make 800). Further to that you can set it manually (as this board does seem to pick some very weird settings on auto!).

HOWEVER: This board can be finicky about memory, although looking back through this thread it seems to be OCZ memory that has had the most problems. Maybe you might want to wait and hear from someone who has actually used this particular brand/model of memory before parting with you hard earned dosh

Has anybody been able to get this board to enter S3 suspend mode, where the fans turn off? I can't seem to do it, even with dumppo.exe (MS tool for standby settings)

I am currently running Beta 2 of Vista, but I am not sure that matters.

I am hoping someone has had better luck with this board and standby.

Since you like to point reviews to people so much I thought you'd already know what I'm talking about.

Here --> http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2802&p=9

There's your E6400 @ 2,88 toe to toe with a stock X6800. Except FEAR and some other game the difference is never greater than 2fps.

Second, "read the review"?? In case you haven't noticed, what I said, and you quoted, is the only logical conclusion from the comparison of both reviews (this one and this one).

The overclocked E4300 @ 3.38Ghz (in this case 375Mhz FSB) barely keeps up with the stock X6800. That's a 450Mhz difference. A 2MB E6x00 series does that at roughly the same clock speed (in this case 360Mhz FSB). Hence what I said: "screw the [higher] OC [possible]".

Numbers don't lie now do they? So I don't care what the reviewer says, I care about those numbers. Dirt chip? Right now, and where I can get it, the price difference between the E4300 and the E6300 is nothing (less than $10). So much for "dirt cheap". And I can't wait for its price to drop.

I had no need to justify what I said but I did it anyway because I don't say BS nor I pull numbers out of my ass.

DUDE we are talking about the best & cheapest CPU for this mobo! (Asrock775Dual-VSTA) with its limited FSB not the best CPU for other higher FSB capable mobos.
E6400X300FSB=2400MHz
E4300X300FSB=2700MHz
E4400X300FSB=3000Mhz (This is the CPU that I have suggested as being the best, cheapest for this mobo IMO).

See above posts

The E4400 is going to be a better option IMO due to the 10X multiplier. Achievable 300fsb by many with this mobo X10 is good for 3Ghz if the stock voltage allows you, if not then a pin volt mod. Hopefully a newer bios or the newer 4CoreDual-VSTA mobo will allow the 340fsb to be more achievable for a possible 3400Mhz overclock dirt cheep.

With this mobo the E4300 Overclocked to 2700MHz should beat the E6400 Overclocked to 2400MHz by more than 2fps and the E4400 @ 3GHz should kill the E6400.

These are not road side curb prices rpsgc!

E6400
Reg. Price: $302.10 CAD
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?...143&vpn=BX80557E6400&manufacture=Intel

E4300
Reg. Price: $233.70 CAD
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?...149&vpn=BX80557E4300&manufacture=Intel

E4300 is $68.40 Lower that E6400 and will should overclock 300MHz+ better (On This Mobo Asrock 775Dual-VSTA)

Thats more than $10.00 savings. Numbers don't lie now do they?

So I don't care what you say , I care about those numbers. Dirt chip? (Yes) Right now (Yes), and where I can get it (NCIX), the price difference between the E4300 and the E6300 is nothing (less than $68.40). So much for "dirt cheap". And I can wait for its price to drop can YOU?

I had no need to justify what I said but I did it anyway because I don't say BS nor I pull numbers out of my ass, RIGHT!!!!.

Great job Teenwolf, you've really burned a thread which was rolling along nicely!

Go get one (E4400) and tell us about it when the numbers are in.

I noticed they do not list "compatable AGP cards", does this mean that all AGP 4x/8x video cards are supported? I do not feel like getting rid of my X800XT and DDR400 right now.
I'm still runninig a Barton @2.4gig and nForce2 combo. Maybe I'll hold out again (if I can stand it) till AMD comes back with a worthy Conroe competitor.

I think you would be pleasently surprised with the x800xt and ddr 400 on this board with a conroe chip. I doubt you will have any problems. Plus I think it will be a little while before AMD can top the Conroe (at least for a reasonable price).

ive come from the same setup. had a asus nForce2 mobo, how i shall miss it

with a Athlon-XPm 2500+ at 2.5gigs and with the asus x800xtpe

im loving the performance boost i got . and it only cost 150 quid to upgrade
only problem was the bios on the asus x800xtpe was changed by asus slightly so it gave problems when installing the ati drivers.

solved by flashing the ati standard bios for the same card

hope this helps

after some help before i sling the pc out the window.

hi by the way, great new tech forum i've discovered

down to business.

have this lovely board with a E6300 and 1 gig ddr 1 geil dual channel set. at present i have a TNT2 agp card as a back up. having lots of pci-e trouble and think it may be knackered. anyway....

brought a X1600 pro card after emailing asrock to see if the sapphire version worked, he said all chipsets listed on the pci-e page should work, it's only the brands they had to test.

worked when i plugged it in, when i tried to install drivers it said instal a vga driver first. saw this on a few pages back, but hasn't answered. then it wouldn't show a picture past the winxp loading screen although win continued to load as hdd still went. so sent back the card, no issues but got a refund.

now got a bargain new x850xt pe card and the same thing with that, loads until the win xp then picture goes black. put the tnt2 in and all is fine. checked the add/remove software and ati drivers there so uninstalled them, rebooted then switched off and re-fitted the pci-e card.

went to bios, switched primary card to pci-express and rebooted. nowt. tried a few things but to no avail. it's an ATI branded card OEM model.

has someone got this set up and had you got these issues of should i send my mobo back as faulty?

what should the bios settings be? i use bios version 2.40

also, updated the via chipset from their site, still nothing. disable on board sound as i use it, still nothing. getting annoying now

please help!!!!!!

try going into safemode, open up device manager and find display adapters

and uninstall the ati graphics adapters...
the reboot and see what happens.

Boy, I don?t appreciate being put into the same category to as a junkie and it does not take a Einstein to work out that 10X300=3000.

i press F8, brings the console to select safe mode, safe mode with networking etc and when i select safe mode it brings the drivers up and then gets to 'press esc to stop loading SPLD driver' so i have left it and esc'd it and it freezes and won't boot into safe mode.

i'm very puzzled.

check this thread, about 1 page ago, and you will find a link to a lot of bios files, even for ATI branded cards.

yer, found that and downloaded all the files, just not sure if it will work.

do i put the agp and pci-e cards in the slots and then use agp primary adaptor and update the pci-e card through windows?

my pc won't boot to safe mode.

Not sure, as that website is blocked from work, but I thought I had to boot to a dos prompt and flash the bios from there.

I would only have the AGP card installed at the time.

Once you get the AGP card working by itself, we can then focus on the PCI-E card.

I would say to people - mobos like this are the best. As an experienced Computer builder - the 775dualvsta gives you everything you need. Most games don't even know the difference between the E6300 and core 2 extreme or overclocking ratios. I have my E6300 overclocked to 2Ghz and it's stable as a rock. But most games don't care about the speed of my core 2 duo and I think that forthcoming direct X 10 graphics cards will prove that AGP 8 can be just as fast as PCIE-16 slots. But we have the advantage of having a PCIE slot on the 775 dualvsta *(albeit at 4 speed).
What's the point spending more on a motherboard that you will probably upgrade in a couple of years time anyway?
Playing a game on the 775dual vsta or Abit AB9 with 7900GT graphics card in the PCIE slot - you simply wouldn't be able to tell any difference in performance whilst playing. Both are as capable. The difference? - our motherboard only cost a fraction of the Ab9 and you could argue it's more stable also.
Direct X10 is coming - and I'm glad I only have PCIE at 4 speed because when I find a directX10 compatible card - I'll have an even bigger smug smile on my face.
Don't get caught up in the hype of supposedly bigger and better - the 775 dualvsta will do what you want for as long as core 2 duos kick ass.
It's crazy that hardware isn't even exploited to its full potential before people feel the desire to ugprade. Don't buy into it.
