Thanks for the reply. I have another question, which upgrade will yield me the most bang for my buck...A Core 2 Duo upgrade or 2 GBs of the aforementioned RAM? I can spend only $250. Consider my current setup:

Intel P4 630 @ 3 GHz
ASRock 775Dual-VSTA
1GB PC3200 DDR SDRAM
GeForce 7600 GT
WinXP Pro SP2

THANKS!

If you are going to stick to with XP, i would go for the processor upgrade. Vista appeared to make better use of my ram when I upgraded to 2 GB, but the processor would be an improvement in Vista as well. I would recommend the processor upgrade before the ram upgrade. I think you will get the biggest boost by going to a new dual core.

Has anyone tried pairing this mobo up with an e4300 yet? Tiger Direct has em in stock for ~175 USD, and I'm considering getting one and pocketing the extra $50 I'd save, as I understand the lower bus and higher multiplier will make this an even MORE extreme overclocker. However, I would like to hear from some people who've actually paired these two up.

can anyone give me an idiots guide to flashing a oci-e x850xtpe bios please. i dont want to overclock it, just get it to work on this board.

asrock said update the bios on the ati card, own brand one, to make it work. i have updated my dual vsta bios to 2.40 but could this be an issue and should i try 2.10?

i dont want to screw the card up as it's brand new oem.

Silent, I really think you should address your question to the bods on the graphics forum (2.10 is a better BIOS BTW).

Good luck against Wigan on Sunday, the Toffees should thrash 'em, they're in freefall anyway.

Watch the Gooners feed the the Red Devils their own entrails (again) on Sunday!

I got this from (Ruroni) in another forum with the Asrock 775Dual-VSTA.

Currently, I'm at 2.1Ghz, 233x9(100% stable - 8 hour orthos). When I try 266x9(2.4Ghz), cpu can take long beating, until I bench the memory hard with S&M or Orthos Mem. Haven't tried any different settings yet, everything is default except async. I have to run 2T instead of 1T, or it craps out at default clocks.

E4300
Tuniq 120
2x512MB Kingmax DDR400
X1950PRO AGP

Any suggestions? The CPU seems fine, but its something related to FSB/Mem...

Edit: Muaha. 2.520Ghz - 280x9 (S&M Short Stable). Had to set memory voltage to high, and turn on flexibility. Did cost me some bandwidth. Also got 1T back. Going to move further.

2.6Ghz Stable Now

http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=158504

Edit: Orthos stable... But when I run a disk intensive task, Orthos will fail. Have tried increasing IDE strength, but that doesnt help. And V-Link Fast won't allow XP to load.

There were threads in another forum of a guy who got his 8800 GTX to work on the 775-dualvsta. He seemed happy enough but I'm starting to wonder if it was true.

I sold my PCIE 6800GS in anticipation of the forthcoming DirectX10 cards and I'm hoping that one or two of them will be compatible with the 775-dualvsta. I can live with a small performance hit that will probably be negligible in games anyway. I'm using an old Geforce 2MX400 which is suprisingly good actually but incredibly hot.

Does anyone have any insights into future compatiblity of 775-dualvsta with the new DirectX10 cards? AGP or PCIE?

all the best
robert.

I setup this motherboard in my PC yesterday, along with a C2D E6600 ($270 + tax at Microcenter!), 1 GB of generic DDR, and an ATI X850 Pro (AGP). Nice board for the money.

Installed Vista, and everything works fine. Do I need to install any driver software other than the latest ATI video drivers? I don't want to screw up a machine that seems to be working fine. I found the HD Audio driver for Vista on the website, and it's more recent than the one that came with the board, so I might install that.

I have a doubt... I bought this MB and a E6400 and I'm using it with a Kingston dual-channel DDR400 kit. Thing is, the CPU defaults at 2.05Ghz and not 2.13Ghz! CPU-Z shows the fsb as 256Mhz and not 266Mhz. WTF? On the BIOS it's at Auto. Windows' System Properties also shows it @ 2.05Ghz. What's wrong?

You have to manually set the "CPU speed" as I believe it is called to 266Mhz. My board did
the same thing. I also had to set the memory speed manually to operate at DDR400, otherwise
it defaults to DDR333.

Yes, I am using 2X1GB of Patriot DDR2 667 with no problems

I am running it a 300 mhz 1:1 ratio with my cpu.

Has anyone ran MBM or other diagnostic software to see what Northbridge is installed on these latest Asrock 775Dual-VSTA boards. I have heard some saying that they are now shipping with the VIA PT880 Ultra chip instead of the Pro chip. Has anybody pulled there heatsink to take a look. I have looked at the upcoming QuadCore board from Asrock to be released to the States around March 1st...and it looks like this Northbridge is the only difference.
If it's true that they are now shipping with the Ultra chip...I wonder if you could just upgrade the BIOS from the QUAD series...If I knew that they were now shipping with the updated chip I would purchase one today.

ANYBODY ????????

See The new thread that I started and cast your vote !!!!

sounds like u got the engirneer sample, which has 4mb of cache instead of the standard 2mb, run CPUz and check there and the steping and revision.

if thats the case just overclock it to the default 266 and u basically have a e6400 with 4mbs of cache. performance should hopfully be somewhere between a normal e6400 and a e6600

vary rare they are, but as its running at 256Mhz it sounds like other e6400's engirneer samples with 4mb of cache, GL

ES? Nope... My E6400 only has 2MB cache and B2 stepping.
This also happens to a friend of mine with the same MB and CPU.

what does the vdimm = low/medium/high correspond to in terms of voltages for DDR2 memory?

Got some 2x1GB Super Talent T800UX2GC5 memory on the way

Yeah, there is a weird issue with the board when left in AUTO. It defualts to 256 mhz fsb. Just set it to 266 and you will be fine. Nothing wrong with your CPU.

Can anyone here confirm that this board can do S3 Standby (ie. suspend to RAM)? I'm having the same problem I recall someone else posting about before I bought this board -- none of the fans (cpu, case, etc) turn off. Everything else does, but it seems the BIOS isn't notifying the power supply of a standby or something? Does S3 work for anyone?

I asked this question a few pages ago, and nobody responded. I then emailed ASROCK support and they confirmed that it CANNOT do S3 suspend.

Which is odd, because MS tool says it can support S!, S3, S4, S5 states, but it only ever uses S1, S4, and S5. Even after trying to force it to use S3 with the tool.

Damn it. Hibernation is mostly pointless since it takes almost as long as a cold boot start up, and you can only resume via the power button. So it's board issue, not something they could fix via BIOS?

That's what I don't understand. If the OS sees the board as supporting S3, I wonder what the issue is. I have tried everything though. I even started messing with usb drivers and stuff.

Well, something screwy about this board b/c I also noticed that if I check the box to allow my mouse to resume from S3, then I can no longer even get to S3 Standby b/c it XP complains that the mouse driver won't allow it. And then same for keyboard. So lots of S3 issues w/this board. I guess we'll have to settle for friggin hibernation...

But there are a lot of people in this forum w/this mb. Can no one here claim to get true S3 standby (ie. fans shut off too)? S3 Standby is so usefull I really would've expected to see far more people than just us complaining about not being able to do it w/775Dual-VSTA?

Also, what MSTool are you referring to?
