The MS tool is a cmd prompt program called Dumppo.exe

I don't think it is on MS site anymore. I can send to you if you want. it is 16kB

You basically run cmd, the type
dumppo admin /cap
dumppo cap
dumppo ac /cap
dumppo ac minsleep=S3
dumppo ac minsleep=S1
The admin switch is sometimes needed, cap = capability, ac = mains power.
The winking LED is a function of the motherboard. I've run nothing but /cap
as my system works, other say ac minsleep=S3 has worked for them.

Ah, I remember dumppo from a long time ago, like back in the P3 days when S3 usually didn't work. I thought those days were long gone by now. I guess not. lol
I just searched my hard drive and see that I still have it in my system32 folder.

If you give up on S3, you can remove it altogether from Power options via this:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ACPI\Parameters]
"AMLIMaxCTObjs"=hex:04,00,00,00
"Attributes"=dword:00000070

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ACPI\Parameters\WakeUp]
"FixedEventMask"=hex:20,05
"FixedEventStatus"=hex:00,84
"GenericEventMask"=hex:18,50,00,10
"GenericEventStatus"=hex:10,00,ff,00

Back up your current ACPI key first so can restore if somehow Asrock gets it to work for this board in the future.

That is good info to have. Do you have the registy settings for what should be there under S3?

I think it might be different depending on board & BIOS so export the \ACPI\Parameters key and use that as your "S3 enabled" setting.

Thanks. It would still be good to know if anybody that owns this board has gotten it to sleep in S3 mode. I am in Vista, and I would like to know if Vista is stopping the S3, or if it is the board. You had mentioned that you were able to get it to suspend, but had issues with it resuming?

Damn, so your saying no S3 even in Vista w/this board? Did you do a clean install of XP and/or Vista after installing this board? I didn't but that doesn't seem to matter as far as S3 goes.

I'm learning to just accept hibernation for now, until I get a final C2D board. I just now had to replace a UPS so I put XP into hibernation and then unplugged everything, replaced the UPS and then resumed from hibernation. I guess that's kinda nice and you can't pull the plug w/S3. It's just the 1m15s resume time that irks me. Hopefully, in a week or so I will forget how sweet that instant on/off is you get w/S3...

I have not looked into the DX10 card capability issues so I don?t know; just remember that this is a 4PCI-e lanes only. I believe that the NVidia 8800 does not work with this mobo as it needs 16 PCI-e lanes.
Look here for VGA capability should be the same as 775Dual-VSTA.

Yes you can.

The Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA works with the quadcore but the Asrock 775Dual-VSTA does not officially support the quadcore. The boards are nearly the same and it may be that you can use the 4CoreDual-VSTA bios on the 775Dual-VSTA boards and get it to work with the quadcore CPU.
Asrock initially posted on their site that the 2.10 bios for the 775Dual-VSTA supported the quadcore but later on they removed that from their web page.

Maybe 8800GTX and 8800GTS Dont work with this mobo but i believe new medium class 8600-8300 will work this mobo

Mr.Vain I'm afraid to say but my ram's not KINGSTON or TWINMOS my rams oem is this a problem ?

Hi!

775DUAL-VSTA boards was produced with VIA PT880Pro and PT880Ultra chipset, too. You can check it easily, if you remove the heatsink. For example my board is an Ultra, so this is the same board, as 4CoreDual-VSTA
It is possible to upgrade the BIOS to 4CoreDual-VSTA ver. 1.3, and it works! I did it. :evil: But don't wait for any changes. Performace doesn't change
I think both of the two boards support quad core CPUs.

Sorry for my english...

In addition to answering the above question I was hoping someone could answer what memory choice is good for this board with an emphasis on a a good investment for where memory is going in the future. I read Gary Key's review of DDR vs. DDRII performance and at stock the DDR2-533 performed best with the E6300 (which I have). I'm new to performance overclocking (ie..don't know how to get the most from memory yet). Ideally shouldn't memory match the FSB target in a good ratio and if that is the case shouldn't DDR2-667 be the choice for overclocking capability (with a quad-pumped FSB near 300) and future compatibilty. Where does that leave DDRII 800 on this board...I hear it will work in it.

Thanks in advance.

Hi amigoss!

I'm a newbie here, so be nice to me
My question is:
Does the latest v2.40 BIOS fixed those issues with Radeon x800 series cards?
And - what is about these DDR2 kits? Does the Mocrocode and other updates fixed these issues?
Btw, I'll buy this board, so I'll report about it

Second question:
What settings you could suggest me for this configuration:

400W HEC ARPT ;
Club3D GF 7600GS 256/128 ;
P4 D 531 3.0Ghz or E6300 ;
G-Skill DDR 2x1GB F2-5000 RAM ;
Three HDD's ( 80GB each ) and other periphery ..

Third question: Does all MoBo's have Ultra chipset or ASrock still manufactures boards with Pro chipset?

I have no problems with the power LED, or the HDD led. Both have worked just fine since installing board into my Antec case.

HX, I have a x850XT PE and no problems at all w/2.40 BIOS, nor any problems w/the 1.9 BIOS that the board shipped with. I did have to manually update the AGP/PCI bridge w/the driver from VIA in order enable the AGP functionality though.

I just realized we have almost the exact same setup, Jshupp:

C2D e6600 @ 2.7 (300 mhz FSB)
2x1 GB OCZ DDR500 @ 3:4 (300 mhz), 2.5-4-3-7, 1T
ASROCK 775 DUAL-VSTA
AGP x850xt pe
Adaptec 29160 + 3 x 10K SCSI drives
Audigy2 ZS

Did you also find 300mhz FSB a hard limit? ie. I'm rock solid at 300mhz but can't even post at anything above that. I'm also a little confused about my DDR1 memory performance w/this board... I'm running my DDR 4mhz faster now than in the IS-7 this board replaced, yet I score 400 less in Sandra.

Well i have had no problems with my LED'S but for the life of me when i updated the bios to 2.40 i kept on getting playback issues with xvid , divx ,avi files kept on getting glitchs all the time i ended up going back down to bios 2.20 and all is fine.

That Asrock link now shows the 775Dual-VSTA does NOT support quad core. I think the reason the 775QuadCore-VSTA was creeated is the same reason that Dell updated the XPS 700 to 710. The quad core processor has hardware design requirements that the 775Dual-VSTA may lack.

Quote from this Dell blog
http://direct2dell.com/one2one/archive/2006/11/15/3573.aspx

"As most of you know, Intel's Core 2 Extreme QX 6700 Quad-core processor will ship soon. Several of you have asked if this new processor will work on your existing XPS 700 motherboard.
...
Here?s what our development team had to say. Based on Intel?s current design guidelines, the Intel Quad Core Extreme Processor should work on the XPS 700 motherboard. However, Intel revised the design guidelines for boards to be compatible with this quad core processor to decrease the signal impedance of the front side bus. This is different from the board specifications on the XPS 700. Also, Intel specifies that the Quad Core Extreme Processor needs 4 GTLREFs (GTLREF is reference voltage to the CPU front side bus to recognize signals as high or low for data coming to the bus) and the XPS 700 board has only two references. Intel?s revised design guidelines for the signal impedance change and the requirement for two additional GTLREFs to support its Quad Core processor caused Dell to make system-level board changes that have been implemented with the new XPS 710. With those changes, Intel?s new quad-core processors are fully supported on the XPS 710.

Here are the legal disclaimers:

Intel quad core processors may have stability/life expectancy issues when used on the XPS 700 because it lacks the required GTLREF support, or they may not work at all.
If you attempt to upgrade an XPS 700 with an Intel Quad Core Extreme Processor, we can?t guarantee that the Intel Quad Core Extreme Processor will work, nor will it provide support for quad core processor-related issues."
