I just realized we have almost the exact same setup, Jshupp:

C2D e6600 @ 2.7 (300 mhz FSB)
2x1 GB OCZ DDR500 @ 3:4 (300 mhz), 2.5-4-3-7, 1T
ASROCK 775 DUAL-VSTA
AGP x850xt pe
Adaptec 29160 + 3 x 10K SCSI drives
Audigy2 ZS

Did you also find 300mhz FSB a hard limit? ie. I'm rock solid at 300mhz but can't even post at anything above that. I'm also a little confused about my DDR1 memory performance w/this board... I'm running my DDR 4mhz faster now than in the IS-7 this board replaced, yet I score 400 less in Sandra.
[/quote]

Actually, I have been able to POST at 333 before, but it is rare, and there is no way it will load Windows. So I just drop it back to 300. It runs rock stable there. I haven't really benchmarked at all, since I just want a fast, stable box - not too concerned about scores.

Hi everybody, here's my two cents with this board.
ASROCK Dual-VSTA
E6400
2x 512 MB Mushkin DDR500

The HDD led is working, no problems there.

I also noticed 300 FSB is the hard limit. 300 FSB is rock stable, anything above that makes windows hang within minutes.
I also have to keep my memory at DDR333, setting it to DDR400 makes the system crash.
At 300 FSB, CPU-Z reports the memory is running at 187 MHz.
Which is weird, because the memory ran at 250 MHz without a problem in my previous mobo.
I'm thinking about getting 2 GB of DDR2-667 memory as I have the feeling that 1 GB is not enough for Vista.

And I'm also having the suspend issue in Vista.
Windows shuts down, but all fans in the case keep running...

hi by the way, great new tech forum i've discovered

down to business.

have this lovely board with a E6300 and 1 gig ddr 1 geil dual channel set. at present i have a TNT2 agp card as a back up. having lots of pci-e trouble and think it may be knackered. anyway....

brought a X1600 pro card after emailing asrock to see if the sapphire version worked, he said all chipsets listed on the pci-e page should work, it's only the brands they had to test.

worked when i plugged it in, when i tried to install drivers it said instal a vga driver first. saw this on a few pages back, but hasn't answered. then it wouldn't show a picture past the winxp loading screen although win continued to load as hdd still went. so sent back the card, no issues but got a refund.

now got a bargain new x850xt pe card and the same thing with that, loads until the win xp then picture goes black. put the tnt2 in and all is fine. checked the add/remove software and ati drivers there so uninstalled them, rebooted then switched off and re-fitted the pci-e card.

went to bios, switched primary card to pci-express and rebooted. nowt. tried a few things but to no avail. it's an ATI branded card OEM model.

has someone got this set up and had you got these issues of should i send my mobo back as faulty?

what should the bios settings be? i use bios version 2.40

also, updated the via chipset from their site, still nothing. disable on board sound as i use it, still nothing. getting annoying now

please help!!!!!!

hi

Maybe you set PCI-E frequency too high? For example, setting PCIE-E frequency to 117 MHz may help overclocking. but only with a AGP card...

I thought the PCI-E frequency impacted the PCI-E video card, at least it does for me. I have to run the PCI-E frequency higher than the default 100 MHz or I can't boot into Window XP with my PNY 7900 GS. My AGP card was fine with the PCI-E frequency at 100 MHz.

Now to my question: Is anybody running this board with a 7900 GS and if so, what overclocking of the 7900 GS have you been able to reach? What are your BIOS settings? I for one can get my 7900 GS up to 525/1400, any higher on the core or memory and Half Life 2 crashes. I have the PCI-E frequency set at 110 MHz. The PNY 7900 GS is supposed to get as high as 575/1430 and I've read of even higher overclocks. Thanks.

helvetio, you REALLY need to address that question to the chaps on the graphics card forum rather than this forum, it is VERY unlikely that this mobo will have any impact on the overclock of your 7900, that will be down to your PNY card, it's cooling and your PSU quality.

Perhaps it's just a name change to make things super clear?

That Asrock link now shows the 775Dual-VSTA does NOT support quad core. I think the reason the 775QuadCore-VSTA was creeated is the same reason that Dell updated the XPS 700 to 710. The quad core processor has hardware design requirements that the 775Dual-VSTA may lack......

First sorry for my bad english, look at the Mr.Vain Say "The Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA works with the quadcore but the Asrock 775Dual-VSTA does not officially support the quadcore. The boards are nearly the same and it may be that you can use the 4CoreDual-VSTA bios on the 775Dual-VSTA boards and get it to work with the quadcore CPU.
Asrock initially posted on their site that the 2.10 bios for the 775Dual-VSTA supported the quadcore but later on they removed that from their web page. "

are you understand dude ? this is selling strategy I was read the before 4CoreDual-VSTA but 4CoreDual-VSTA coming and all quadcore support text removing

if you are read all anandtech 775Dual-VSTA topic 50 page, you can see this..I mean I believe this

Greetings

I set up my system yesterday. The Stock HSF was a bitch to put on the e6600 chip. I'm having high readings on my cpu load temps (hovering around 56-58c). My system has remained stable thus far, however. Should I begin to look towards an aftermarket HSF?

If your seeing idle temps @ 56c, I don't think you got the HSF properly mounted.

The stock HSF would be just fine, except that Asrock broke the CPU Quiet function a BIOS or 2 ago and if you want any piece and quiet, grab aftermarket one. I couldn't be happier w/this $14 Artic Cooling HSF (http://www.svc.com/acalp7.html), although it was a bitch to get it installed due to these strange clips. I also wasn't too thrilled when I realized I had to take my mb out to install the bottom bracket, but I think most use this mechanism rather than rely on those plastic pegs like the stock HSF.

It's quiet at full speed, but I want complete silence so I added a $3 Zalman fanmate and turned down the RPM to @ 1800. Now it's totally inaudible. If Asrock ever gives us back a CPU quiet that actually works, I'll go back to the BIOS PWM fan control.

Which is odd, because MS tool says it can support S!, S3, S4, S5 states, but it only ever uses S1, S4, and S5. Even after trying to force it to use S3 with the tool.

BTW, this is still irking me. How can this board be officially certified by Microsoft as Vista Ready when it doesn't support S3 standby?

Hi All,

Just ordered two Seagate 320GB SATA hard drives for my Asrock VSTA, Does anyone know if the chipset on this board supports the NCQ (Native Command Queing) that these hard drives can utilize?

TIA

My Antec SLK3700-BQE has a LED working for Power (though not THE power LED) but no HDD indicator.

The case's Power LED cable has 3 pin connector and won't fit the board.

To indicate power I used a HD LED cable which has just 2 pin connector
on the PLED Power LED posts on the motherboard
treating the non-white wire as the +
according to my notes.

Haven't got a HD LED to work as a HD LED - I have only one SATA HD
and from memory I tried both ways round on the posts without success.

This has reminded me to try again as would prefer HD LED indicator.

Nope.

I've had a good look around for this and as far as I can tell... Hard drive NCQ (native command queing) is not supported by the chipset on the DUAL-VSTA mobo even with the newest VIA Hyperion Pro Driver Package http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=420&OSID=1&CatID=1070

No matter!.... My new 320GB SATA Seagates are running a treat even without NCQ and apparently there is very little difference in performance anyway. I CAN however see the performance increase in having 16 MB HDD cache though

Does your power LED actually have three wires, or two with a three prong plug? Mine was only two wires, but three prong connector. I plugged it into the motherboard so the empty prong was not connected to anything. It works just fine. Just a thought.

Well...I had my X850XT PCI-E working on it. More or less the same series video card so I think that counts.

So...Yes.

I'd assume this means some of the boards shipped would have the Pro & some the Ultra, but there's no way to tell which it will be...

Got my VSTA from Newegg last week. Took the heatsink off and mine has the Ultra.
