Yes, BIOS 3.13c added support for E7200 and E5200. I want to make sure that the same support is still present on 3.13g.

@VL - I updated to 3.13g and I can at least verify that it is stlil working with 4GB RAM and Quiet Fan. I don't have an E5xxx or E7xxx, sorry

Anyone know if 3.13g will work with a 4830? It lists 4850 and 4870, should the 4830 work?

Thanks

After selling two of my 775-VSTA boards, I was thinking I was done with these boards, but I now find myself owning another one to pair up with an e2180 that's been collecting dust for a while. Plans are to toss in another dust collector, a G80 8800GTS, and build a Windows 7 beta box to toy around with. I should realize that Asrock will always be a part of my hardware collection at this point.

First, as this is my first post here, I would like to say hello and apologize in advance if my English is not that good. I would try my best to make you guys understand my problem.

I quoted that msg for emphasis and to ask the user that post it for help.

I have a AsRock Dual-VSTA 775 mobo and untill yesterday i had 1GB of ram. I recently bought 4GB (2X2GB) and saw that this mobo only supports 2GB.

With an old version of bios, the POST screen shows me I have 2.5GB of ram, and BIOS showed me: SLOT1: 2GB DDR2 SLOT3: 2GB DDR TOTAL MEMORY: 2.5GB

After I installed version 3.10a of the bios (and later 3.12g), POST shows me 3072MB ram (3GB), but BIOS shows me the full ram under TOTAL MEMORY.

This would be my first dilemma. Why does POST show me only 3GB, when BIOS shows me 4GB?

From my discutions with other users on different forums, I figured out that the reason the mobo doesn't give me access to the whole 4GB is that the bios uses those mb of ram to acces other devices, and that the only solution is to enable memory mapping from BIOS.

The problem is... i don't have that option in my BIOS for the mobo (curently version 3.13g - latest afaik)

I did a little test and tried with a 128mb agp video card (instead of my current one - 8600GT 512MB - PCI Express) and POST shows me 3.5GB now. This confirms my theory that the problem will be solved by enabling memory mapping.

The reason that i quoted that post is to kindly ask that user to instruct me to make all my GB of ram visible to the OS and POST.

My other components now are a Pentium D 805 processor and a 8600GT Video Card on PCI Express.

Please, if you need more info, just tell me... or you can use ymess if you really want to help. My ID is "realraptor06" and I think we can talk more freely there and then post the conclusions here so that everyone can see how I solved the problem.

Thanks for reading this... you guys are my last hope

P.S. tried on WinXP 32, WinXP 64, Vista 64 and Linux Ubuntu 64. All show me 3072MB Ram with the latest version of BIOS and 2.5GB with my initial BIOS (2.7 i think)

If you need more info, like screenshots from Windows System Properties or pictures from BIOS or POST just say so and I will deliver them in a second

Hello all. After I saw this thread (and the new bios), I've been considering upgrading to 4GB. I just wanted to make sure I understood this correctly before making a purchase. For reference, this is the RAM I'm thinking about buying:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820227269

So, is the new bios picky on memory? DDR2 800 will scale down to 667, right? Does anyone see anything that suggests that I couldn't get this RAM, flash the bios, and pop the new sticks in, and run it? Thanks for any help!

@realraptor06

No clue on that. Mine shows 3072 at post as well. I use PCI-E for graphics also and don't have an AGP card to test with. I didn't ever think of it as that big of a deal, because I wasn't expecting the whole 4gb. There have been other posts mentioning that this board does not physically support a full 4gb and I don't have a 64bit OS. Sorry I can't be more help.

There is another excrutiatingly long 775Dual-VSTA post on the vr-zone forums. A lot of folks in that thread doing hard mods and stuff, but you might want to give it a look through. I haven't read the whole post myself (Only got up to page 16).

It should work, but this board is kind of picky with RAM. Might want to read through the whole thread before buying. I remember that there were very good experiences with Geil (Or G.Skill) and many bad experiences with G.Skill (Or Geil) - Sorry don't remember which was good or bad . I do know that there were a few people using OCZ RAM and you might want to see how OCZ stuff works on this board. Others have been able to use the DDR2 800 and run it at 533 or 667. It is a picky board I'm running 2 sticks of DDR2 667 @ 533 without issue.

One way to find out is to pull the card and see!

As for BIOS settings, browse this thread or the one for the 4CoreDual-VSTA to see what settings are working. Make sure the flexibility option for the ram is disabled, for one thing.

I guess you are right only way to find out is to pull the card.

Okay, my computer always locks up 95% of the time when I start Speed Fan. It always freezes at the part when it scans all the buses prior to launching, ISA BUS 2090.

ISA Bus 2090, am I on to something here? What does that control?

Just to update everybody, it hasn't crashed since I pulled out my PCI sound blaster card. My computer has crashed, but unrelated to the motherboard.

GPU-Z, speed fan, ati tray tools does not freeze anymore.

CPU: Intel e6400
Memory: Patriot PDC1G3200+XBLK
Video Card: ATI x850xt PE AGP

This mobo only supports cpu's with fsb's of 800mhz and 1066mhz, not 1333mhz which is what e8400, etc are.

As far as I know this mobo doesn't support the 45nm c2d's at all.

Oooh, R0-stepping support. Nice. I wonder how long we Conroe865PE users will have to wait for the same upgrade.

Crud. I flashed the dual-vsta bios to 3.15a using the Winflash tool and now I am getting the dreaded "cmos checksum error". I flashed it to 1.70 using the asrock flash tool with no problems before. I have cleared the CMOS as described in the manual, to no avail. I am running a non-raid SATA boot drive, so "loading setup defaults and continuing" causes the XP boot to fail. Is there anything I should know about the flash process for this board? I see a couple of you guys have done this successfully...

Thanks ahead for any help.

I was also getting the "cmos checksum error" with 3.15a. I did the flash using winflash. However, I redid the update using the available ISO file (boots off CD) and that resolved the error.

I went back and downloaded the bootable for version 3.13g, since it's verified working, and reflashed. Went fine. Had I seen the 3.15a bootable, I'd have used that instead of Winflash. I learned my lesson.

On another note, is it even possible to run XP x64 with this board/chipset? I have the old 4G RAM showing up as 3.25 b/c of the memory hole. I don't feel ready to upgrade to VISTA. I fear my video card may not cross the threshold with me.

So can anyone say for sure which 2GB modules work on our motherboards? Can you give me a link to the item on newegg (the place where I buy most of my stuff) so that any one of us can buy what works?

Thanks!
