Is this expansion board available yet to use the AM2 CPU and if so, is it worth the upgrade? I have an Athlon 3500+ CPU in there now. Has anyone here had any experience with this yet?

Thanks,
Hans

It's a good price, but it doesn't seem like AM2 CPU's currently have anything over 939 ones. I would just wait until next month's price cuts and pick up a cheap ($169) X2 3800+ to drop in your motherboard

QFT, The X2 3800+ has to be one of the best deals i have seen in the past few months, hell, all of the X2 price cuts are to tell ya the truth. Be Patient .

Sup Hans.
i think u should ask urself some questions like

1. do i want to overclock my cpu? Cuz both ur 3500+ aswell as the asrock board wont mind it and u should reach performance of a single Core 3800+ easily.
2. do i need a dual core for the software and kind of multitaskin iam doin? cuz multitasking (running several cpu hungry programms at the same time) and dualcore optimized software (iam still waiting for them multithreaded gamez to come, when, when, when?) is what makes dualcores shine. And if u do neither of it u will regret buyin a X2 3800+, which means two cores of 2000MHz iirc. If u like to encode loads of videos or ur a 3dstudio and his brother guy...dualcore might help.

btw

Normally I would agree with everyone and say get the dual-core (X2) after prices drop. But if
1) you are only gaming
and
2) you are not overclocking
then
your 3500+ is probably better than an X2 3800+. Why? Higher clock speeds are more important for gaming than multiple cores. Eventually, dual-core will probably be a big advantage for games as well, but by that time you'll want to build an entirely new machine with Conroe or something better. Until then, I'd say stick with your current processor, whether you overclock it or not. It's plenty fast for any current games IMO.

Sounds like I should stay put with what I have and maybe try a little overclocking if I feel the need. The PC runs just about game I throw at it without a hiccup so maybe I should leave well enough alone for once.

Thanks,
Hans
