ASRock Board 5 Beeps

Here's my situation. I'm building a new PC using an AMD FX-6300 CPU with the ASRock 970 Extreme3 as the motherboard (also using an XFX Radeon HD 7870 GPU). I put the build together today, but when I test boot it, I only get 5 beeps, with no display output. The CPU cooler and GPU fans spin up normally, but there's no picture on the monitor. I'm using an HDMI to DVI cable to connect.

Here's what I've tried to rectify the issue:

-reset BIOS by both the battery and jumper
-plug the video card into the other PCIe slot
-remove and reinstall the CPU
-try booting with just one RAM DIMM, and try all of the RAM slots

None of the above has worked, so I'm at a loss. Is this my motherboard being shitty, or is my CPU actually faulty?

First off this is a mobo question so it doesn't belong here.

Secondly from what I can find out 5 beeps on that mobo indicate a processor failure so take the CPU out and check for bent pins/ make sure you have the 24 pin and 8 pin connectors plugged in properly.

Also, he could have gotten a motherboard with an out-dated bios and it doesn't support his Vishera 6300 yet.

There are also a lot of DOA reviews for this board on Newegg.

So, 5 beeps at POST is definitely a CPU issue? Because I've tried everything - all of my connectors are in, I re-seated the CPU twice. I've heard that it could also indicate a video card error.

In response to the BIOS question, my board has a sticker indicating that it has 1.70 BIOS, which ASRock states on their site supports the 6300, so I'm really at a total loss here.

Well if that board has that bios then I think it is clear it is not the CPU. It states twice CPU failures are not coded with any beeps (short or long)

Do you have the proper power plugs into the video card. I am sure you do.

Could it be a bad PCI express port? But both? I doubt it.

This is why I like having extra parts for quick swapping to debug these hardware issues.

Did you check to see if the fan on the video card is firing up? Ie getting power.
