Asrock Extreme 4 Fan Problem

Hi,

I just bought Asrock Extreme 4 motherboard with i7 3770k. Whenever i switch on the system the CPU fan is too loud and once i boot into windows, it slows down, but whenever I run Ubuntu or I am not in windows, the fan speed is too high (i guess full speed). I have tried all the settings available in BIOS and also tried upgrading BIOS but no luck.

Please share your experiences with the same and probable solution. Will replacing stock cooler help here?

FYI..I do not play high end games, no overclocking, no high end graphics card as of now (currently using 9600GT) , but use system for heavy development tools.

Let's start with hardware, not to insult your intelligence but did you double check your CPU fan is plugged into your CPU fan connector and not one of the other fan connectors?
If so, do you have the ASRock Extreme Tuning Utility (AXTU) installed? If not, try installing it and setting CPU fan to auto.

Identify the types of fans you have and where they are plugged in and then tell us what your fan setting are in the bios..
Also what vid card do you have and are you sure its not the vid card contributing.

Set CPU target fan speed in the BIOS and you should be good to go.

Mine resets itself to 100% whenever I update the BIOS. Kind of annoying but not something I have to deal with very often.

Yes. I double checked that CPU fan is installed in CPU fan header only. There are two headers on the mobo, 4 pin and 3 pin. I have tried installing in both but of no luck.

My CPU temp in BIOS is around 38 degrees. I played around with the fan settings in CPU by taking it to level 1, level 3 and level 4 (based on CPU temps obviously). The graphics card i am using is Nvidia 9600 GT (DDR3 ram, pretty old card). Once the windows 7 boots up, Fan speed is slow and i dont hear any noise, but as soon as i restart the PC or enter into the BIOS or boot into Ubuntu (or any linux distro for that matter) the fan is at full speed.
