Ok, so I have BIOS 2.00 installed.

There is an option to Enable/Disable 'No-K OC' in the UEFI.

I used the Asrock Extreme Tuning Utility to set my multiplier to 35 and it looks like it worked. Gonna have to play with this some more. :sneaky:

Normal top speed turbo for the i5-2300 is 3.1Ghz and mine is running at 3.5Ghz.

1.90 didn't stay up long. 2.0 is the newest now though the change log appears to be the same. Glad I didn't get around to flashing last night like I planned. I would've been out of date in less than a day.

Has anyone paired this ram with this mobo yet? It’s not on asrock’s site as supported memory at the moment.

I have 4 sticks of the Samsung Green RAM in my board and they run fine ... although I can't overclock them to more than 9-10-10-28-1N 2000 MHz @1.45V It doesn't boot at 2133Mhz ... AsusGuy had they same problem but he had different RAM but he managed to get it running at 2200Mhz

Can you run some super PI tests with stock and 3.5ghz? This is getting interesting.

Super Pi Mod 1.8 WP

Stock (2.8 GHz)
512K 10.857s
1M 23.494s
2M 52.713s

Multiplier x35 (SuperPi detected 3.4Ghz)
512K 5.070s
1M 10.920s
2M 25.490s

A helluva difference. I've never used SuperPi before so I don't know if these numbers are in line with what you expect.

Should I run longer calculations?

Somethings wrong. It looks like cstates may be throttling your stock speeds because those numbers look too high at stock. The 3.5ghz numbers do look accurate at that clock speed!

Do you need a processor for it?

Microcenter runs a combo deal just about all the time where this board is around $89.

why yes i do. ill have to take a look at this. thanks!

edit: seems like there's no combo deal right now, unless im missing something

interesting feature, can you prime it and show each core speed?

Yea, I plan on looking at more this weekend.

I should go ahead and order the Evo 212 now that I have a reason to. It got a little warm (80c) running 3DMark11 a few days ago. Prior to this, I don't think I saw higher than high fifties.

Edit: Did a quick look..

Add me to the list of Z77 Extreme4 owners. I bought one a few weeks ago and put off installing it because I thought I'd have to re-install Windows. However, coming from an Asus P8P67-M Pro, I just dropped in the ASRock and everything seems to be working fine after all the drivers are updated. I flashed the 2.0 BIOS before booting for the first time (from a USB stick).

Time will tell!

Tomorrow will be tweaking day--one of the reasons for the upgrade was the crumminess of the Asus for overclock fine-tuning, so I'm hoping for improvement.

I've been playing with the 'No-K OC' a little bit more.

Raising the BCLK works when done via the UEFI but does not work using the Asrock Tuning Utility.

I'm at BCLK 105 with 35 multiplier now for 3.675 GHz. Not too shabby for the ol' 2300.

I got my Extreme4 a few weeks ago at MicroCenter for $90 with a 3570k. I love this motherboard it's been great so far. The funny thing is I never would have considered AsRock a few years ago when they were considered the bargain bin option. Now I think they are a viable option in the enthusiast arena. I have used Asus motherboards, MSI, ECS, Gigabyte and many other brands. This board holds it's own. So far the layout, options, OCing and stability are great.
I have a set of the Blacklines on the way and I was wondering if you could share your settings that you are running? I haven't seen too many successes with my board over 1866.

Are all 4 cores running at this speed?

If this is the case then on an i7 3770 non K, you will be able to run at 4.3ghz by multi adjustment and if you add in the 105mhz BCLK, you can get to 4.5ghz. So if you are a mild to moderate overclocker, there is no need to buy a 3770k I guess if you have this board lol.

Yes, all 4 cores show 3.675 GHz. HWBot shows the #1 ranked i5-2300 @ 3.788 GHz. (35x108.25)

I have a 212 EVO arriving tomorrow so I'll see where my chip maxes out. Right now I have a crappy Best Buy cooler that is good for stock speeds but doesn't seem to keep up with the OC very well. (Stable, but too warm for my liking.)

I'll put any further comments in the CPU & Overclocking sections since this is borderline not related to the Extreme4 owner's thread.

Sadly, I think I'm going to have to return my Extreme 4. I already RMA'd it once for exchange, and both boards exhibit noticeable coil whine--that high pitch electrical noise that sounds like an old CRT TV. I know it's the board, as the P67 it replaced was totally silent.

Hi, I'm thinking of buying this motherboard and I'd like to ask which RAM sticks to buy. Asrock doesn't list voltages on their QVL list, unfortunately...

Can someone recommend me good modules that he/she tested and that will work in 1.5v CL8 configuration?

Thanks in advance.

The Samsung Green RAM can easily overclock to CL8 at that voltage. However, you're better off with higher frequency that lower CAS ... but the performance difference is negligible.

Thank you

I am at work right now but will get my settings posted as soon as I get home.
Funny you should link the post from Mushkin forums I also wrote that a while back when I was looking at getting this RAM working but found this board is picky with 2133 RAM. My friend had problems with his RAM at that speed to. My solution was to run the RAM at 2200Mhz 1.55v with a variation of other timings that I will check for you and post later.

kpo6969 I just realized that you were able to get the RAM working according to the mushkin forum. Just curious what version of the BIOS you are running? I am still on 1.8 and thinking about updating to ver 2.
