kpo6969 I just realized that you were able to get the RAM working according to the mushkin forum. Just curious what version of the BIOS you are running? I am still on 1.8 and thinking about updating to ver 2.
2.0 seems ok, that's what I had on when I changed the ram. I know what you're saying about the board being picky for 2133 and voltage. I have always used G. Skill but discovered that they only qualified their's up to 1866 and 1.5v. Even the Trident 2400 they say 3570 and 3770 work but on their forums they say only to use 3770 (not 3570). Hopefully another bios update may help.
Funny thing is that I set bios to defaults, changed the ram and when I booted it up it showed 1333. There was only 1 XMP which was XMP 1.2 10-11-10-28 1T. I also changed the ram default from 1333 to 2133.

Sadly, I think I'm going to have to return my Extreme 4. I already RMA'd it once for exchange, and both boards exhibit noticeable coil whine--that high pitch electrical noise that sounds like an old CRT TV. I know it's the board, as the P67 it replaced was totally silent.

Strange, I have never had coil whine come from any Asrock board.

Very strange, no coil whine from my Extreme 4 and I've had it for months now.

I have a very quiet system--all Nexus RealSilent at 7v--so I may be hearing noises that other people don't hear over their fans.

On the other hand, both my boards came from the same retailer, so maybe it was a bad batch? Or perhaps it's something else in my system that I just never noticed till now.

I ordered a P8Z77-V Pro to replace the Extreme4--if it still makes a coil whine noise after that I'll post here and eat crow.

Maybe a bad batch because my system has all 140mm fans running below 700rpm. Its near silent too and I hear no whine.

I now have the P8Z77-V Pro up and running. No more high frequency noise. Obviously I can't speak for anyone else's board, but my extreme4 (both of them) had coil whine--either a bad batch or some bad juju with the rest of the parts in my system.

This board's offset overclocking also works a lot better than the ASRock's, which I couldn't get stable with a 2500K. It also feels a lot more solid and robust. It's just a shame I had to spend an extra $50 for the same features I had with the ASRock.

I need to pick a board up for my 2700K

I am looking at one of the 3 below

Asrock Extreme 4
Asrock Fatal1ty Professional M
Asus Maximus V Genie

I figure I can get near all the features of an ATX board if I go matx with either the fatal1ty or maximus V for only $40 over the Extreme 4. I would like the Fatal1ty Professional ATX if I can find it at the right price

If you were buying one of the 3 above which would you grab, it is going under water with a 6990 on water as well

Anyone have trouble getting into the boot menu on this board?

It says F11, won't work at all. I have tried different keyboards, different ports, loading defaults, have the latest BIOS. I can enter BIOS just fine, but F11 does nothing whatsoever.

My Z77 CPU fan speed seems to get reset to 100% after shutdown. Very annoying as it speeds up the stock fan to 2800rpm which is a little too noisy. On BIOS version 1.90.

How have you guys setup the CPU fan speeds ?

Update to Bios 2.0.

1.9 was pulled from their website due to issues.

My dad's computer got hit by lightning. It was a core2duo 6550 setup I built for him years back. I talked him into getting the board with a 3570K to replace it. I will let you all know how the build goes.

No coil whine here. only time ive had coil whine is on a gtx285. any static screens where the frame rate wasnt capped and it whined like a little mofo. never heard it on a mobo before. that would be even more annoying i'd image as it would probably be continuous.

all features being equal, why pay $40 for a smaller board? unless you're using a tiny case, i dont see the benefit.

ive been on bios 2.0 since saturday. no problems detected here. this board and 3550k are sweet. after this bios update while i was setting everything back up, i upped the cpu to 4.2 from 4.1 and no problems. threw some samsung ram in yesterday and runs at ddr2000 no problem. i just blindly picked 11-11-11-28 as my settings and 1.45v. some limited stress tests showed no issues. i did have trouble with the command rate setting. its still set to Auto (2N). i tried changing it to 1T and 1N and it didnt like either option. i dont claim to be an expert at the 20 or so ram settings, but ive usually only seen 1T and 2T command rates used. e-leet shows 2T in windows rather than 2N so maybe thats just a bios typo? still not sure why it didnt take 1T

I'm really hating the fan controls on the extreme4, but the setting that seems to be working is 50C target temp + Level 5 fans. If HWInfo64 is accurate, my fan does spin up to 100% if temps push over 50C. Before at 50C + Level 9 it was just too loud.

Here is an update on the computer I helped my dad build last night. The only problem I encountered was initially it would not give us a video display on boot and the LED display showed code A2. After a few google searches I decided the easiest thing to try was reseating the RAM sticks. It turned out that fixed it. After that we used the bios flash to update to 2.0 and it was smooth sailing from there.

Will be ordering an Extreme4 as part of my first ever custom build. Definitely looking forward to it given the price:features ratio.

I'm having an issue with the speed of the fans.. They're running all the time at 100%. I've already changed the settings on the UEFI BIOS to Auto, but fans are still working at 100%.

I've tried with Speedfan too with no success, fans are still working at 100% after checking the "Automatic speed fan" option or even dropping the fan speed to 0.

I'm using the Hyper 212 Evo on CPU_FAN1 4 pins.

PD. Do I need a special driver for the motherboard? (SMBus driver?)

I just built a system with this board and a 3570k, and I'm struggling to wrap my head around some of the bios settings.

I want to run stock for now just to make sure everything is running smoothly.

I have everything in the bios for the CPU set to auto, but I think I can make some changes to get better temps.

Vcore is showing as 1.15 during Prime95, which might be a bit high for stock. Should I set an offset or a set voltage? What is this LLC stuff and how does it relate to load voltages? I want to get things as stable as possible with as low a load voltage as possible.

EDIT:

After some further reading I've got the VCore down to 1.07 under load by setting LLC to Auto, and temps have in turn dropped 8-10c per core.

Maybe these reasons are why you had to spend $50 more!

Hey guys, just noticed that Asrock posted a beta bios update 2.01. This enables Windows 8 compatibility for those of you who plan on going that way.

http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?cat=Download&os=Beta&Model=Z77 Extreme4

Would you recommend this beta bios for a new build? I'm expecting delivery of my ASRock Z77 Extreme 4 tomorrow, along with the i5-3570k for my new build, and was probably flashing bios to the most recent stable bios prior to starting Win7 install.

I would stick with 2.0 for now on a Win7 install.

Also, I haven't had any luck updating via the bios options. I have had to use the Windows updater on the Asrock website.

I would also suggest sticking with the non-beta BIOS and v2.00.

Given that ASRock has already pulled a few official BIOS releases for this board, I would hold off jumping on their beta releases.

You can always update to a stable bios release down the road when you need it.

Unfortunately, my build with the Extreme4 didn't go smoothly last night and I couldn't get a post after assembling everything. Hitting power button on the case would cause all the fans to spin for less than a second and then stop, so I think I have a short somewhere. I've checked that the case connectors are matching the Extreme4 headers on install, and removing the front panel connectors and trying to power on with the mobo's button causes the same brief spin and then halting post. All the power connectors, 8 pin and 24 pin are snugly seated, the cpu fan 4 pin connector is connected to the mobo.

Had to go to bed to be ready for work this morning, so I didn't have time to go through removing components.

My build:
i5-3570k with CM Hyper 212 Evo air cooler
ASRock Z77 Extreme 4
2x4gb Corsair Vengeance black
EVGA 670gtx ftw
Seasonic X660 psu
Crucial M4 228 gb
Two WD 1.5 tb greens
Corsair 550d case (three case fans are plugged into the mobo chassis fans headers)

Probably start with disconnecting the optical drive and two storage hdds, then removing gpu, removing ram. Hopefully I'll get the issue diagnosed quickly.
