I finally recieved all of my new parts for my 4670k build, but it seems that the motherboard is defective. I have tested the psu in another pc and it is working. When I try to power on there is zero activity, no error led's or lights of any kind. I've tested each stick of ram in every slot combination. The only item I cant test is the cpu, but I would think even if it were bad that there would be some activity when trying to power on. I've triple checked all connections and jumpers, cleared cmos, tried bios A and B. I did not have a hard drive installed at the time, but I don't think that would effect the powering on. Has anyone ever had a bad battery on a new motherboard? Any suggestions?

Motherboard: ASRock Z87 Extreme6 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($174.99 @ Newegg)

Are you sure the power button on the case couldn't be a culprit? Have you tried any other methods for powering it on? I think the board has a power switch.

Yes, I had thought of that. I've tried the power switch on the board with the same results. I have a replacement board on the way, but its still frustrating having my new rig sitting in the corner.

I had a bad power supply shipped to me, so I know how you feel. Typically, you would had to have done something very wrong to not get a working power supply to give you some reaction out of a motherboard (even for a few seconds.) Considering what you have posted, I would be blaming the board as well.

What's the code in the Diagnostic LED display?

EDIT - I am guessing nothing after reading your POST. Something could be shorting. Are you sure you don't have a standoff where it shouldn't be? Is the USB header in the correct header and seated properly?

Somebody forgot to put the standoffs in, Doh! Has to be shorting against the pc case.

Edit- Thanks so much Rvenger (and Ketchup as well), I had totally overlooked the standoffs and it fired right up. Now to get my hard drives in and see how far I can clock this thing!

Go ahead and start a new thread for this, as you have a new issue here. You can do so in motherboards, but might fit better in Computer Help. When you do, give us some of your system specs.

Does it really count as a new issue when they literally copy/pasted the OP? Probably a spam bot :/
