Question, there's an achievement for "sweeping" 5 enemies with a long weapon...I can't figure out how to swipe. I've tried it with a giant axe and a lance and I just don't get it.

You have to go to your home villa, and talk to the fight trainer guy to learn how to do such things. There are 3 or so 'special moves' that you have to pay to learn.

Oh, really? Wow...I didn't realize that. I've run past him without talking to him maybe 15-20 times...

AC1's ending was pretty bad too...not quite as crazy but bad.

*Spoilers for those who's not played AC1*

In AC1 you end your last session in the Animus beating the boss of the game and a map pops up showing you the locations of other "Apple of Edens." You leave the animus and the scientist guys at Abstergo say they've located them and decide to leave you alive "just in case." Lucy turns out to be an assassin and says she'll help you eventually, then she too leaves.

Then suddenly you use "eagle vision" and see glyphs all over the room, one of which looks apocolyptic. That's all that happens.

We now have spoiler tags (woooo!), it's just not readily apparent unfortunately. To use them type:

Code:

No problemo!

In regards to your comments, I sort of agree--AC1's ending was too ambiguous for me to follow, but I felt AC2s was really interesting.

I liked it. My two cents.

I have a question...

Is there any way to locate particular monuments on your map, or to tell what monument you happen to be near AFTER the first time you go there and it pops up the message to look in the database? I have some monuments with glyphs on them that I missed when I first visited the area, and now I have no idea where those particular locations are. I'm getting tired or randomly running around trying to find a place that looks like the little pictures in the database

Nope, doesn't show on your map. It should however pop up again when you get close and haven't found the glyph yet.

It was a pain in the ass for me too, but usually searching the location on Google told me where to find it.

For those that might be interested, I summarized my thoughts on AC2 on my blog, discussing where it succeeded and where it failed:

http://eat-games.blogspot.com/2010/01/review-assassins-creed-2.html

Gamespot actually praised the controls in their review. Glad I'm not the only one that noticed that. I hate to go back to the Uncharted series all the time, but I think they really perfected this style of gameplay. The jumping/climbing controls aren't complicated but they could still be further simplified.

I rented the game, still have it out. I guess I'm about half way through. The game is a definite improvement over the first one. They've tightened up the aimless wandering and slow pacing of the original game. Difficulty feels just right. Not to hard but not too easy. Side quests have more meat to them. Combat still has the same issues as it did in the first game. Your regular moves are more effective this time around but countering is still the most useful tactic. I like how you're also not always under constant suspicion from the guards as well, so you can walk past them without them trying to kill you in most cases.

I'd rate it a 7.5 out of 10 overall. I really hammered the first one giving it a 5 due to the technical and control issues, plus it was boring.

Bumping this somewhat old thread because I just finished AC2 today. I had picked it up about a month ago even though I never finished the first one. Went back and beat the first one, and jumped right into 2. The first one got trashed in the media, but I actually really enjoyed it for the most part. After beating AC2 which was a fantastic game, it raised my opinion of AC even more.

I think the designer's have done an outstanding job of mixing historical events and people with myth and legend, and come up with one of the most fascinating stories I've ever seen in a video game. If you took the time to hack the computers in AC and read all the emails, and read all of the letters and codex pages in AC2, there really is a lot of philosophical depth to the game. I for one can't wait to see the final game in the trilogy. If they can keep up the level of storytelling and can find a good way to end it, it could be amazing.

I liked the first one, but after seeing how much better things were done in AC2 it definitely takes a hit in my mind.

Bump 'cuz I just finished AC2 last night. Great game!

I kind of got lost in the storyline - didn't really know exactly WHY I was supposed to kill someone sometimes, but...who really cares?

"What the f..."

Well, the ending was still a lot better than Resistance 2's ending.

Picked up AC2 the other day, it was one of Amazon's lightning deal. 23 bucks shipped to my door. Sure I probably won't see it until later next week.

I didn't care much for AC1, but I numerous reviews said it was much better. I told my self I wouldn't pick it up until it went on sale for cheap somewhere, figured now was as good a time as any.

I liked AC1, but did find it very repetitious. AC2 is much better and has a lot more moves, weapons, and ways of killing people.

AC2 has a LOT of optional missions. If you do them all, it gets very repetitious. I gave up trying to finish them all after the first big city.

I recommend just doing enough of them to earn enough money to build up your own town, and buy what you need. Once your town is sufficiently built up, it will provide more than enough money for you to buy everything you need, without your having to do any optional missions.

Regarding "The Truth" - WTF indeed!

Came home from Vacation to have this sitting at my door, put about 10 hours into it so far.

I haven't done any side quests yet, just the main story and I've got a pretty good chunk of change so far. After finding the 8000 around the villa (Montiwhatever) and just money collected from doing missions, the town is making me about 9k an hour (3k ever 20 mins). Other than having to go back to the town to pick it up (Fable II was better in that regard), it's a pretty nice touch.

So far, other than you being an Assassin dealing with the Templars, this should have been the first, with maybe a back story cut scene to fill in the blanks.

i am having fun with this game. picked it up from gamestop for $20 during their power sale. much less repetitive than the first one, story is engaging. although i must say, the timeline is weird...never got a sense of time from the story.

Yeah, AC2 is vastly superior to AC. The story is alot better, much less repetitive, there's no set "Do A, B, and C and then kill your target" feeling to it. I also like buying weapons and armor and such.

Ending is a little weird though.

got AC1 at gamestop used for 6.50. Well worth the money as the game lasted a long time. Very enjoyable!

AC2 for 20 new. loved it.

ACB is going to rock.

I got about 20 hours into it, unlocked the armor from the master assasin tombs thing(can't remember the name lol), haven't done any side quest, i think i'm on like sequence 14? 13 maybe? The game is fun, but the jump, climb, kill, kill again does get a "little bit" repetitive, so i take breaks every now and then from it.
