Yeah, I think early to mid 1800's is about as far forward as they can take the series. They've been advancing time over the course of the series, so maybe the ending of 3 will give us a reason to reset the clock. I think they could do a lot in Old/New Kingdom Egypt and Asia throughout most of its history.

They made pretty explicit nods towards 8 potential prior time periods in AC2, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them take a detour towards those historical assassins they had statues of.

I finally started playing the first Assassin's Creed after being chastised for owning it (the Limited Collector's edition at that) and never playing it.

I think the greatest annoyance that I had was spending 10 minutes following a guard around after the game telling me to hit LT to start a pickpocket mission, and I thought the lock-on signified that I was supposed to pickpocket the guard. No, it was just the normal fighting lock-on. I felt rather dumb after that one!

It might be interesting to play in colonial America though. I also think that going too far ahead in time might make it too odd... or just a rip-off of the Hitman series.

Yeah, if they get too modern, it'll be a very bad knock off of Hitman series. I bought Revelations the other day on a Steam sale, and to be honest I don't know why I play these games. All the generic missions meld together after a while, kinda like Mexican food--mix and match about 5 diferent ingredients to make a cookbook of recipes. If it wasn't for the cool graphics, gigantic open cities and Enzio's sexy voice, I wouldn't be playing these games.

The first game kinda sucked... I mean, it was OK, but it's more like an experiment of "what could we do with this" than an actual game. Assassin's Creed 2 is absolutely stellar.

Yeah. A friend of mine told me to just play through the first game quickly, because the missions are simply too cookie cutter, and there aren't a lot of flavors of cookies.

If you preorder from Best Buy, they give you a steelcase. I picked one up today just because it looked cool.

I hated and never finished AC1 because it got boring. I tore through AC2 and it was good, but I still got a tiny bit bored by the end of it so I stayed away from Brotherhood and Revelations.

But I have to say that this looks like a buy to me, if only on the setting alone. Looks like a nice change for the series itself and something that hasn't really ever been tackled before. At least not as much as modern day or WW2 settings.

Haha, That's the exact opposite for me. This is a not buy, for the setting alone. I can't think of a worse setting than in US for this series.

DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT PLAYED AT LEAST THE FIRST 2 GAMES!

How so? The entire story arc is based on Desmond's genetic memories to this point. There has been a very logical progression of events outside of the Animus too. Even Subject 16 and the "bleeding effect" are explored.

Nothing so far breaks the continuity established early on. There is a war between "those who came before" and their human subjects. And nothing to this point contradicts that.
The latest information, is that revealed by Jupiter. That some of the Aliens lived with, and assisted us, in trying to survive the first massive solar flares. But that can still be consistent with the original war. Because they could be a sympathetic faction, while the rest of their people are our enemies.

And since the series begins with a U.S. citizen in New York City, the setting had to be the U.S. at some point. Given the Templars agenda: that they and the Assassin's would continue the struggle here, was inevitable. Better that the game play would be a time when reloading a rifle was still a painstakingly long process, than later.

wow that gameplay trailer looks pretty damn awesome. i was a fan of this game but it got old very quick to me. i feel the change is a great welcome.

quite a few of the scenes in the trailer reminded me of The Patriot.

After watching the first trailer, I got the urge and sat down and watched The Patriot. The worst part was that I bought the movie... and then months later realized that I actually already owned it.

Looking good. Not sure if I should play through Revelations first though. I got burned out of Ezio and the locale part way through Brotherhood and haven't been back.

Revelations also features Altaïr quite a bit, so maybe that would interest you more.
