This game will be out in a little over two weeks, but it doesn't have it's own thread. From the footage I've seen, it looks like it will be both the largest, and the most graphically impressive Assassin's Creed game yet by far..

NVidia has been working with the developers to bring these features to the game:

1) HBAO+, the best and most accurate ambient occlusion available for games to date.

2) Percentage closer soft shadows for more realistic looking shadows.

3) TXAA. This gets a lot of flak for blur, but I couldn't detect any blur after enabling it on Batman Arkham Origins, so I guess NVidia has improved it.

4) High resolution textures and assets with support for 4K gaming.

5) High precision light rays

Screenshots look extremely impressive:

Very excited for this one. Can't decide if it will be a day 1 purchase for me though. These games seem to go on sale relatively early on, so I may hold out. But then again, I've pre-ordered the last four at launch and have never regretted that decision. Huge fan of AC3 as well.

The reviews for the PS3 and 360 version have been mostly positive. Ars gave it a negative review, though I don't know why they're reviewing game now. Seems like the most common complaints are what all AC games share in common.

I got it preordered for PS4. Could have picked it up for PC. AC3 looked gorgeous but I couldn't get it running at a steady frame rate. The games are not well optimized for PC.

I'm pretty excited about this version - the console versions are getting rave reviews, they're calling it the best AC edition since Brotherhood. Now, i've liked every AC game so this news is pretty exciting for me. If it matches the bar that Brotherhood set, it will certainly be one of the best AC games ever.

DSOGaming: One of the biggest issues we’ve encountered in AC3 was its inability to take advantage of more than three CPU cores. That problem was also present in Splinter Cell: Conviction. However, Blacklist pleasantly surprised us with its CPU multi-core support (game runs better than its predecessor and there were performance differences between tri-cores and quad-cores). Will Assassin’s Creed IV be better optimized on the PC than AC3?

LP: There was a major optimisation pass that was done on the engine, not just for the PC, but for every platform. The scheduler used for the rendering was rewritten from the ground up. In AC4, the engine will use all the cores it needs until it sees that using more cores brings no more gain. So, yes we should expect better performance on PC than AC3, especially on DX11 hardware.

Looks like it was taken care of.

Wonder how the game will go for the present as they said(cant find the source now) that Desmond's story was done with 3. Though it felt kinda like it fizzled out from what I remember

From what I read, in the present, you are playing the role of an anonymous Abstergo employee generating content for a pirate game.

I really hope this game has a more interesting main character than AC3. I couldn't hold much interest in AC3 whether it be connor or the random stuff you could run around and do in the game like fixing up your homestead and such. Hopefully this game will bring a fun new protagonist we can all get attached to like Ezio.

That's what the reviews said, or at least the couple I watched. They said it's an excellent pirate game and the main character is good and fits with that. Downside being that it's less of an assassin's game because of it and really just feels like a good pirate game.

Damn, now the itch to pay full price is growing.

I've never got over my disappointment with the initial AC after it received such huge hype around the large world and world interactions that I never got into. But the environments in 4 look and have the feeling of being awesome the more I hear about this one.

My itch is growing too, but I'm hoping I can get AC3 on sale soon for under $10 to pacify me for the time being. I would love to play it on PC as I have eyefinity now, whereas I played it on PS3 the first time. But, no sales lately....

<-- guy who really enjoyed AC3.

You enjoyed AC3 but you hope to get AC3 on sale? I'm assuming you meant you enjoyed AC2. Have you played any of the others?

Also, if you were a PSN+ member you'd have AC3 for free already. I know it's not on PC but it's free...

No I meant AC3. I wasn't specific though. I played AC3 on PS3, but now want to play it again on PC to take advantage of higher resolutions and eyefinity. I've since sold all my PS3 games, including AC3. But even if I hadn't I'd still pick up AC3 for PC for under $10.

Game is supposedly getting released tomorrow and I'm not seeing any media about it at all (at least not specific to the PC version); no reviews, no talk of the technology outside of what came out in September, no talk about performance. Am I the only person excited for this one?

Ah well, I'll probably get my order in with GMG tonight to take advantage of "pre-order" status and the additional collectibles. Don't know if I'll spring for the Gold edition or just standard though. Something tells me the additional content is basically worthless.

I'm considering it myself, I played AC2 recently and really liked it (AC1 as well). I'd say that AC3 bored me overall (but the soundtrack is amazing). The only video review I've watched for AC4 is Lord Karnage's (Classic Game Room, love that guy's reviews) and so far it looks quite decent, if you like pirates stuff, yar.

Wondering how good this one will be. I'm getting it with a bundle, but not sure if I should keep it. I've never played the series, but I remember seeing gameplay from the earlier games and they looked cool. I'm not sure if this one is anything like the original.

No, it isn't. The combat is supposedly fairly similar to AC2 and such on land (lots of waiting / counter kills), and you get to climb tall things and swan dive, but a lot of the game is naval based, and before AC3, none of the games had anything remotely like it (and I didn't play AC3 so I don't actually know how it works). One of the most common critiques I've read was that it would work perfectly well as a game without the Assassin's Creed branding, since it's such a departure from the previous entries.

Ok, thanks. I think the older ones look more appealing, but I'll wait to hear what average players think and watch some gameplay.
