Do you need to have played ALL the others to understand this one? I stopped about half way through Black Flag, it just got too repetitive...

You haven't needed to play all the others to enjoy any game in the series. I mean, I guess Brotherhood and Revelations were both direct sequels to ACII, having the same protagonist and whatnot, but I skipped ACIII and I got into ACIV without difficulty (and it became my second favorite game in the series behind II). So I'm guessing that you'll probably be fine to skip Unity and Rogue (since it sounds like those are the only ones you missed) without losing too much. Worst case scenario, just watch a story refresher on YouTube.

Console versions seemed to be reviewed favourably. A few of them did make mention of the noticeable lack of bugs relative to Unity. Promising for PC-ers.

Yeah I couldn't get used to the new controls when I played Unity. It is the only Assassin's Creed game I have not finished thus far as well. I don't think I will even buy syndicate.

Again, how many FPS can the HUMAN EYE detect, not a program...?

I can tell the difference when I watch a Hearthstone videos at 60 FPS vs 30 FPS.

I'm certainly no expert on the topic, but I've been wondering if it's just going to be different for different people. We all process information differently, so it wouldn't be surprising if some people are far more capable at noticing the difference in framerate than others. One of the few ways I notice the difference is 30 FPS videos on YouTube that perform a camera pan without motion blur. With 60 FPS, it's usually fluid, but 30 FPS tends to be jerky.

Also I remember reading about some tests that fighter pilots took and they could see and identify an enemy plane on screen at what would be the equivalent of over 60fps. I don't remember the specifics but maybe someone knows or can look it up.

In any case you can definitely process more than 60fps.

Heh, this can of worms. I mentioned the same thing in the ol Witcher 3 thread but I misrembered the reality of what is going on here.

When talking frame by frame--true "FPS," as one can interpolate it for the human eye--I think we are talking about a capacity of something like "150 FPS"? There was some paper that marked fighter pilots at up to 200fps.

The 30 FPS standard is set to one thing: the number of frames at which motion is determined to be natural and uninterrupted to the human eye.

This is for replaying 35mm film stock; though I guess 70mm and digital applies, so long as it is live-action.

I think problems arise when we start looking at animation, 3D or 2D, and how much detail can be packed into a single frame. I'm not sure what is going on here, but I think that because each individual frame in even the highest quality animation or rendering is still not all that great compared to real life (though certainly very good these days), that accumulation of missing details from frame to frame does funny things when the brain is interpreting motion. I want to say that this is why 30fps, or even gloriously beautiful 24fps, of live-action footage at 35mm is still vastly superior to even digitally rendered 40-60fps animation at up to 1440P--and I would so far as to say that 2560P isn't quite as good, either.

Now, the ability to process the absolute highest quality images at even 30fps is a huge issue, no? I think this is simply one those things where the technology (processing power) just isn't there yet, but it certainly will be.

i am having a blast with this game so far. maybe 10 hours in and %10 done

the brother/sister combo is sweet because it gives you 2 upgrade paths you can alternate between as needed

the combat tweak isn't bad either, though i am still getting the hang of it

Grabbed it during the BF sales.

Barely started it though. Seemed ok, performance was abysmal. No SLI... It's like every AAA game is abandoning SLI.

Movement was a pain in the ass, they removed the ability to jump with the press of a button? Now you run up to a wall, bump into it, then start to climb. Instead of running at it and pressing jump a few feet away. And you can't force yourself to jump off roofs etc. I'm hoping that will be remedied once I get the grappling hook?

Trying to finish up Arkham Knight before really getting into this.

This is the first AC game I've played on the PC and first I've played since Black Flag (which I didn't even finish). Since you're thrown straight into the game I was pretty lost with the controls. It took me a while to figure out they changed it so there's now free run "up" and free run "down".

Once I did figure it out I like this system a lot better. I like not being able to accidentally commit suicide by jumping. Free run "down" will automatically let you climb down or jump depending on how high you are.

I have run into some bugs, the biggest one has been invisible people during cut scenes. Some of them are quite comical though if the person is carrying something. Glad I didn't pay for the game though, got it free with my Samsung EVO.

I wish they were go back into the distant past again. Victorian London has been done to death. As a setting, it's right up there with Noir New York and Contemporary Los Angels for popular culture.

Set one in the roman empire or middle ages japan or something we don't see much of.
