I am building my first system completely at home. The Specs r

Q6600
MSI P35 Platinum
2 x 1 GB DDR2 800
160GB SATA
7950 GT
Ultra V Series 500W PSU
Generic Casing

The problem i am facing is that i have gathered these components over some time. I have bought MB and CPU now..

Now when i m trying to assemble the PC i m facing some trouble. and MSI manual is not helping me..

Issues are
1: MSI board has 8 pin connector and my power supply doesn't have any such thing.. it has only 1 x 4 pin connector... So can only 1 4pin connector will do the job..

2: The casing has PowerLED+ and PowerLED- cable group and i don't know where to plug it in on the motherboard.

3: How to boot from the IDE DVD Rom on the motherboard.

4: the casing has SpeakerR and SpeakerL and Mic and couple of other cables in another cable group and i can't see where to plug them in the motherboard.

5. Lastly the included 2 extra USB connector panel has 2 cables to it.. one is attached to the USB on the motherboard and i can't find where to attach the other plug... its also 9 pin.. and seems to be attached to 4 LEDs on the USB panel

Thanks for all the help

You might want to check the mobo manual, but many mobos will accept the 4-pin ATX12V cable into four of the eight pins (one side of the connector).

There should be some documentation, either in the manual or on the mobo itself, about where the power LED connections are. They should be in the same area as the power and reset switch connections, and the HDD led.

Connect the DVD-ROM with an IDE cable, and check the mobo BIOS settings related to the boot order and boot devices. (That is assuming that your mobo is able to boot from IDE, some newer mobos disturbingly lack this capability.)

Probably the "front panel audio" connectors. Not necessary to install, unless you want to use your case front-panel audio jacks, say for a headphone.

That's the MSI "D-Bracket". It has 4 diagnostic LEDs on it, and it plugs into a special header connector on the mobo, that is specifically for the D-bracket. Do NOT plug it into one of the USB headers on the mobo.

If you still can't get your board to post, take the board out of the case and place it on a phonebook or the cardboard box it came in. Leave one stick of memory, cpu/heatsink, and video card or onboard video, and touch 2 of the pins for the power switch lead with a flat screwdriver, and the board should come to life. I'm talking about the section of pins for the reset, power switch lead, power led light, etc. They are all low voltage, and you won't hurt anything by touching the wrong leads with the screwdriver. The trick to all of this is to get your power supply wires to reach the board while it's out of the case. Do not leave any hardrive or optical drives (cd, etc) connected to the board while doing an out of the case barebone post test. You just want to be sure the board works. Since this is your first build, I suggest you checkout the links available by typing "computer hardware sites" while using yahoo. The first section is "computer hardware links". If you select it, at the bottom of the listings is a section for first time builders with links for learning to build a pc. I've been building pc's for 15 years, and still make mistakes sometimes.

1. You might get by with the 4 pin. That supplies power to you cpu. Since you have a quad 6600 it may or may not need the 8 pin connector. If you plan to overclock the cpu then I strongly suggest that you get a PS with the 8 pin connector. If you need the 8 pin then I'd suggest a newer Power supply like a Corsair 620 which will have the 8 pin connector.

2. Look at connector JFP2 on page 2-16 in the manual. Pin 1 is ground so that would be negative. Pin 5 is the positive pin for the PowerLED.

3. You have to go into the bios and change the boot order of your devices. Make the DVD the first device and the hard drive the second. After you get Windows installed, you will be able to change the boot order back to its original order.

4. Look on page 2-17 of the manual. Plug the cable in to JAUD1 connector.

5. Page 2-18. There are 3 JUSB connectors labeled 1 through 3. Each connector is good for 2 USB devices.

If you look at page 2-2 you will see the locations of all your connectors on your motherboard. For example the JUSB connectors are at the bottom right edge of the board when looking at the board as it appears on page 2.2. JFP 1 and 2 are just above the JUSB connectors at the bottom of the board. JAUD1 is at the bottom left edge of the board.
