if it was the first shot (like it sounds the first half of the article) then I would say that the man deserves a metal. However, after 10 shots (and I don't buy that he wasn't trying to hit it) the guy and the bird are both retards.

How hard would it have been for someone to walk over there and just chuck a golf ball at it, rather then hitting one at it?

so why was he hitting balls at it? see how close he can get w/o actually hitting it?

but $10K for killing a bird?! c'mon. Was it an endangered species?

All raptors are federally protected.....a raptor is a bird that hunts, like a hawk, owl, eagle, etc. Illegal to kill any raptor or to possess a dead raptor without explicit permission, and that includes finding one dead on the side of the road and picking it up. You also cannot get one stuffed and mounted....

LOL at these responses of people suggesting the guy take insane punishment.
I've heard of eye for an eye, but that's usually human-human. Animal - human? hmm

hunting could be thought of as a way of showcasing our ability to reign over animal kingdom... not that selecting random animals to kill is necessarily a good thing, but... better that than him taking the same course of action for an annoying person on the course, no? still, aye he should be punished... but community service I think would be good enough for this case. Not like he tortured the thing or something, or threw it off a cliff with glee.
then again... why complain only about animals? we're going to become the very aliens we depict in sci-fi that roam from planet to planet, killing the local population and consuming the resources, then moving on... is that not the same? Do what we can to prove we are the dominant life form? We destroy the planet, yet only green-freaks complain about that. Everyone finds something to hate man about. Why not hate man just because we're a plague, and not for specific reasons?

Is this an endangered species? If not, then I don't care if they charge him or not.

When you think about it like that, life is a plauge, in the end, every organism is just fighting to dominate, survive and procreate nothing else matters.

Self defense, bird continued to stalk him even after he knew the golfer was trying to hit him.

Golfer gives up returns to his perch, bird persues, golfer fires 10 more warning shots.

Bird had it coming.

No, I'm impressed too. And I don't think he really mean't to hit the bird, he just got carried away, and wasn't thinking.

Reminds me of the time I hit my friend in the eye with a rock from about 30 yards away, in the dark, in the middle of the woods, while drunk.

I threw just one rock in his direction to scare him. It was pitch black outside, and we were surrounded by trees. I never would've thought I would even come close to him, but hit him directly in the eye.

I apologized and even offered to let him hit me, but he declined. I felt really bad though.

Yeah it's so freakin funny how in the article they make it all dramatic like he just killed a human - the guy runs over to the barely breathing bird...gets all sad and lays it on the golf cart...and they bury it. Probably had a fucking priest there too if the news writers had their way.

You're supposed to take your aggression out on the guy who drives around in the cart picking up balls on the driving range

Actually, the fines for killing wildlife can be incredibly steep if you shoot an animal out of season. If it were around here (NY), the golfer would have lost his clubs as well.
