Personally I think at this price it can compare to tablets.

Example:
$250 for a Nexus 7 that's slower has less RAM/storage can't run anything windows and doesn't even have an HDMI output.

$400-500 for a Nexus 10, it at least adds HDMI, but for the same price you are making the trade off in hardware and compatibility for a better screen and since you aren't locked into a keyboard it can be lighter/smaller.

$600+ for an x86 capable Win8 tablet. Another trade off here, price hardware etc.

Yes upgradeable though it is a pain for like most ultrabooks (it is too thick to be consider an ultrabook), this laptop is not designed to be open. Picts here

When i researched this model i read that the HDD is pretty accessible and easily replaced:

Changing the hard drive is pretty easy. It took me about 15 minutes to swap in an SSD on mine.

Can someone explain anything about the graphics on the laptop - it doesn't appear to have a discrete GPU, but what is the ballpark performance (e.g., would it be similar to an intel HD4000 or something)?

It is an HD4000, up to 1.05GHz.

Similar to say a mobile Radeon 64xx or Nvidia GT520/610.
