You can skip to the bottom if you have an ASUS 9600XT, since you probably encountered this, but off we go!
Welp, I'm having driver issues with my ASUS 9600XT. NO drivers installed and the card acting like a "standard VGA" the thing is fine, runs perfectly. If I install the ATI drivers the thing goes black-screen as the Welcome! prompt (the stage after the XP load screen where you log-on). If I actually log in using memorized keystrokes the machine will go and I'll get back video, but I get a critical error the " ATI VPU" saying that my hardware locked up, and the screen goes crazy (more on that later) but the machine is usable (barely). The Omega 2.5 Drivers will reboot into a garbage screen (TONS of red background, looks sorta like artifacting but I know it's not, it's what happens with the ATI drivers after the lock-up) and then BSOD's about 3 minutes identifying one of the ATI sys files as the culprit. between each driver install I completely removed all traces of the old drivers with driver clean (to get rid of any old detonator or old ATI files).
I'm about to do fresh install of XP to hopefully cure all that ails me, but I've been told that the "tweaked" drivers on the ASUS Install CD cure all of this. Can anyone put an iso of the CD up on an FTP or help me out locating the ASUS drivers off of the CD. Apparently the drivers from ASUS's website don't even work right, nor do any of the ATI ones, you need the actual drivers from the physical CD. Anyone have one of these cards that can tell me what I need to do?
And for the record I'm running a VIA chipset with the newest AGP drivers installed (in the correct order with the Vid Card). I wiped off the old Detonator drivers AND the Cat 4.2/Omega 2.5's, I'm running the thing as a "standard VGA adapter." I tried most everything in the BIOS, regarding fast write, cacheing and AGP settings but haven't had any luck. And YES, I know that these cards are a pain, but it was CHEAP.
Thanks in advance!
