Asus A7N8X and ATI

I was wondering if anyone has had any problems running the ASUS A7N8X and an ATI video card? thanks

Got an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe, 2400+, 1 GB PC2700 Crucial and an ATi Radeon 9500 Pro. Certain DirectX programs, namely 3DMark2001SE, 3DMark2003 and that MS ralli game (the demo) produce stuttered rendering, meaning a few frames will display fluently, then there will be a very short pause, then a few dropped frames, then back to fluent display. I have no idea why this is. UT2003, UT and other DirectX programs worked flawlessly.

Don't know if it's an A7N8X + ATi problem. I was going to post my problem on the Video board...

<EDIT>After a quick trip to the video forum and then over to Rage3D, I found out that this stutter issue could be solved at this point by throttling back video hardware acceleration a notch (in most cases). It seems the problem is driver-related and ATi is most likely working on it.</EDIT>

Asus A7N8X and a Radeon 8500 which are working well together. Running DirectX 9 and Cat 2.5, just incase you're wondering. Peace.

What problems are you having? I found some good tips at ATI's site for another nForce/ATI issue (with an 8500DV in that case), so if you haven't perused their Technical Issues page already, it's worth a peek here.

The problem I am having is the computer will not run defrag, It locks up everytime I try, It isn't a video card problem, It will run defrag in safe mode. I closed all programs and took all the cards out and still the same problem, I am thinking it is the harddrive, I have a WD SE, It is the 2nd. one I have tried, I am going to lay a Maxtor out side the case and see if that is it, Other than that the computer runs great but without defrag it won't for long

I had some strange issues at first that I've managed to squash, but still can't run ~192FSB. Seems to be a BIOS/AGP/9700pro issue that the majority of A7N8X users are having.

Anyone have any problems installing their ATI drivers when a nVidia card was their previously?

I am currently running the latest nVidia drivers, but I am thinking about jumping ship and trying out the 9700 Pro. I have heard rumors that I would need to do a complete reformat and start over to get them to work properly.

I don't mind doing a wipe and start from scratch, but I am thinking about passing the 9700 Pro to the wife later on. She hates me to mess with her computer, and that goes doubly for forcing her to do a complete reinstall.

So, has anyone had a problem installing ATI drivers for the 9700 Pro over nVidia drivers? Also, is there a step by step guide that will allow me to do it without reformating?

Sorry for the double post.

There is a utility program out there that will clear up all traces of your nvidia drivers (so they claim), registry muck etc. that I found AFTER I installed my 9500Pro. I went looking for it, and ended up posting the previous blank, but I still can't find it on my system (can't imagine where I filed the darn thing). But, if you find the utility, it must be used before you install the Catalyst drivers, otherwise the re-format is good advice. For the record I have yet to do a re-format and it seems to be running fine, I'm on a P III-800, and am currently waiting for the SiS 655's to hit the market, then I'll do the dirty, and spend beyond my means.
