Asus A7N8X-Deluxe memory issues

I recently added a new 512MB PC2700 stick of RAM to my ASUS A7N8X-Dx board. It now has 2 * 256MB PC2700 sticks in slots 1 and 2 and I added the 512MB stick to slot 3 following some obscure verbage on the ASUS website. At boot time the BIOS (v. 1.007) assures me that I have 1GB at 166mHz in Dual Channel mode. In City Of Heroes (nowhere else yet) I get blue screens of Death about Windows Failure. I ran memtest86 3.2 on that configuration and it found no errors. The 256MB sticks have chips on both sides of the PCB while the 512MB stick has chips only on 1 side of the PCB. I'd love to be able to run the whole GB of RAM together since it really clips along! Anybody run into something like this before?

I'm sure this is a known issue to experts on the A7N8X mobo. In general, I wouldn't be comfortable with that memory configuration on a DC system. You're mixing low/high density modules in DC mode, that's just asking for problems.

Personally, I'd sell all your RAM and buy two matched 512MB modules like the Corsair Value RAM and end your problems for good.

Yeah, I figured the Low/High density chips might be an issue, until I pulled the 2*256MB sticks this morning I had no idea they were Low density chips! The ASUS tech support FAQ's really don't address this issue very well, i will fire off and email to them and see if they have a clue.

Actually, the low density modules are superior to high density. The Corsair I linked you to are low density modules. I doubt their tech support will be of any help since memory incompatibilities are quite a common issue.
