ASUS A7V Lock-Ups Using a TBird 1GHz-Any Answers Yet?Look@

Read my post in Motherboards, Lockups from heades(hel*)Name it I probaly tried it with ASUS A7V-TBird 1GHz CPU-400W PS-Corsair PC133-(128mb) Cas2 Memory-Promise controller update-Bios-1003-1004c-tried disabling Fast-Writes on GeForce GTS-Virus Scan off when installing Windows 98SE-Set to 1X-2x-4X no help there-634 Nvidia drivers-522s-Tried different PS-Memory Sticks, still locks-up and freezes in gaming-internet-I'm losing hair with this mess seriously!

I really believe it's the AMD TBird CPU is the culprit, Gateway went back to the Athlon Classic because of random freezes from the 1GHz TBird CPU.I checked the CPU Temp in Bios under Hardware Monitoring CPU temp F was at 106F. Not a problem there either.

I was looking at the Abit Kt7 Raid, but seriously if the CPU is the prob, I'm wasting time here, any ideas-Greatly Appreciated! Been building for 10 years, this is the pits guys!

Hei, I would like to know the answer too. Having random lockups, say, maybe once in every 5 days?? I guess it's the processor?

GG, I'm using the ASUS A7V revision 1.02 also. Taking it back I guess is a serious option, you only have 21 days for exchange or return. Yes this is the second CPU-Mb, and their techs said all was well in order. ASUS is confused on a fix, as well as AMD techs, so I honestly can't say I know either.

what exactly are you installing software wise?

Im pretty sure its not the processor, look for IRQ conflits.

pillage2001 probably its IRQ conflit with your SB Live.

Yes, on boot up virus scan is not very friendly while installing a OS system

I have no doubts but I still remember the days of the BSOD using the coppermine Intel CPUs remember, but a driver was the fix there (lol)

This is beginning to get expensive on all new hardware-New GTS Pro-New 400W PS PC Cooling- and now aq SBLive! OW! Intel was very user friendly with 6 month old equipment.I'm starting a reserve parts bin for my up-coming 1 GHz Intel unit (lol)

Gateway problems were related to mobo NOT the cpu. Try playing around with different BIOS versions, one of them should do the trick.

I have not had a lock-up since I have installed the vgart drivers in normal mode instead of turbo. Line 7 of the readme.txt on Asus drivers indicates just that. just my opinion.

Did you try one simple thing? Changing System Performance in BIOS from Optimal to Normal? It makes very little performance difference but very large stability difference.
