Dulanic,

Uhmmm, I'm sorry man, but WHAT THE H#LL is your problem?? I was being a smart ass and mocking you? Grow up dood.. I don't think so :|

I think you just misinterprated my writing. I appreciated your advice and went and looked into thank you very much.

Unfortunatly, you just stained your image with me by flying off the handle like that. Says a lot about your character. If asking questions is how you view an insult, I'd hate to hear a real insult. geesh.

BTW, point out to me where I said you were wrong anyway?

OK, on a better note. Thanks for the link to Juggernaut, I didn't know that site exist. Cool stuff.
ASUS's website SUCKS for information about issues.. for sure. I looked through everywhere for something. Hell, I can't even get the 1003 bios from them.

Unfortunatly, I've just had a very crappy problem arise on my system I don't know what the hell to do. I have been running ASUS PC PROBE the last several days to monitor the PC and just this past hour, I've been having Voltage spikes all over the place...

Different voltages are randomly increasing/decreasing anywhere from 2-4 volts and going back to normal voltage in seconds.. ARRRRG! While I typed this, I had 3 spikes.. 3.3 volts dropped to 2.2, +12 dropped to +8.5, can't remember the other... Oh, make that 4. 3.3 judt dropped to 2.2 again... *sigh*

According to Juggernaut's page, there 1003 bios's still cause seconary IDE controller to dissapear under Windows2000. I run Windows2000. I can't have a missing IDE controller. hehe...

I'm not worried about Heat either, I have a Hedgehog (pure copper) HS and my CPU is running at 39c right now. I'm using one of my own fans too. I had it shipped with the Fastest fan they had(7200 rpm) and GAWD is that sunofabiatch LOOOOUD!!! No way will I be using that thing. hehe. I think my vaccum cleaner is quieter.

I guess I'll just tuff it out till ASUS pulls their head out their ars and release a descent bios that works with Win2000.

<< Dulanic, are you saying that BIOS 1004 is crap? hehe... uhmmm.. I'll buy that. >>

Is that not saying you are not going to listen and that Im wrong?

As for the voltage spikes try running MBM 5 or a newer updated Asus Probe... it was a problem with the older Asus Probe versions.

Hopefully in a week or so we will have 1005 Final which is supposed to fix the 1004 lockup problems.

<< Oh, I meant to ask. In the Bios, there is a seperate setting to change memory settings (timings), so, what memory settings does "Optimal" change? Memory settings on the Video card? >>

I may have misread this as you telling me I was wrong... But Optimal does change some of your SDRAM settings.... benchmark your RAM with optimal and normal... youll lose 20-25% RAM performance with Normal.

I went through the same mess too guys, lock-ups tried a new Platinum SBLive! I had new-unopened-400W PS-New Cas2 Corsair PC133-New CPU-mb- and still froze, 25 bucks long-distance and every Bios made for MB. Well my fix was to take it back-get a Abit KT7 Raid, I am running hi 140s FPS using a GTS 32mb-1GHz TBird, 4 weeks running everything at optimal setting even above default flawless. This is my 2 cents worth, but if you can get a fix for it that would completely fix all the freez-ups-hangs, you've worked your tail off to do so.

Some people never had problems, so who really knows. No, this is not insulting the ASUS (NPI), just user experience, which was my own.

I thought I had the fix, when I was getting a -5Volt reading on the ASUS probe, so I went from a 300W to a 400W PCCooling PS . It did fix the -5 reading PS voltages but it still froze using the 1004c Bios-Promise updated driver for long boot time.

Good Luck Everyone, I know how frustrating it can be. ASUS has always been one of my favorite mb manufacturers, so I'm sure they are tryng for a absolute fix.

The long boot time can be fixed by using the Build 25 Promise drivers from Asus website.

I used the updated Promise driver, it went from a massive wait time, to a very fast boot using the new driver.

Dulanic, I was never implying that you posted wrong info, was just acknowledging that the bios "IS" the main source of the problem with that Mobo... Yea, I maybe worded it in a sarcastic way.. whatever.

Damnit, it's not like ASUS to have such buggy BIOS's. Not from anything I can remember.

BTW, I moved my fan from the "CPU Fan" plug to the "Case fan" plug on the mobo and the voltage spikes went away.. Joy! I am assuming this is more to do with this bios. hehe

Someone try 1005 and tell me if it's good I'm not that trusting with ASUS anymore.

I use the A7V and switched from 1004c to juggernauts 1003e2, optimal works fine now.. now I guess we wait until a official release from asus fixes the problem. I see about .7 fps increase in Q3 benchmarks if that even counts.

I have been posting this info for quite a while in numerous posts, where Microsoft admits to VIA chipset problems and also if you have an Asus card the readme.txt line 7 says that "if your installing on a VIA chipset install the VGART in normal mode," All this does is it installs it in 1X AGP mode instead of 2X (or 2X instead of 4X) because some SGRAM cards like the one I have (or Asus) are not compatible with the newer VIA chipsets. Once you install your vgart in normal mode you can run the optimal mode in the bios and do whatever you want with it. You will get a better performance increase by changing your ram to 2,2,2 than changing your AGP 1X2X4X

Alrite, looks like things are happening again and again I'm losing sleep over all these problems!

I ran all the BIOS available. Both Optimal and normal settings. I'm still having those crazy freezing problems! What gives? I tried 1003, 1004a-c and even 1005. All under optimal and normal and windows just hang after 2 hours. My pc even reboot itself? Crazy huh. I'm running out of solutions and in desperate need of help. The screen just freeze where the other activities are still running. The mp3 was till running. I'm still able to download stuffs and all but the screen just freeze there.

Any other ideas?

If your PC is rebooting it is likely you might need a better Power Supply. Or what also caused lockups with me was my 64MB stick of generic RAM. I took it out and left just my 128MB stick and that solved lockups also. But if your rebooting it can be a PS problem.

What bout the pc hanging problem? It seem to be like a routine? Hanging after every 2 hours. I'm very sure it's the AGP problem since all my programs were still running with the screen freeze at where it is because the music was still playing. I'm currently using a 300watt supply. What am I suppose to do??!?! Bout the RAM, I used that before and everything was fine! ;(

Chiwawa626.......Doesn't happen much anymore<--- means that it does not happen at all or still happen but once in every week?

I'm still trying to resolve this. I'm reluctant to use the new beta BIOS because I can't reboot the PC without turning it off. Anymore ideas?

Pillage, did you try those AGP drivers that I posted earlier in the thread (if you are using Win98 SE)? I had the same problems with my computer, but those AGP drivers fixed all! I also had a weird mouse lag problem with Unreal Tournament that was fixed with that AGP driver!

I havent had a single computer crash since I used those drivers.

Pillage its not AGP 4X I had the same problem and used programs to disable AGP4X and go to 2X... it still did it. This is the same problem lots of people have with 1004. Did you try setting the BIOS to normal? Did you try 1003E2 from jaugernaut... My PC reboots fine with 1005 03E.. did you set everything to default in the BIOS when you switched? Are you OCing your RAM? Try turning it down to 100Mhz 3-3-3 and see if it works. Or if you have 2 sticks of RAM try each one individually. Like I said I had this exact problem and it was caused by 2 things.... my 64MB Generic stick of RAM and using Optimal in 1004 BIOS... using Optimal in 1003 or 1005 worked fine.

And I totally understand your frustration. It took me over a week to get my system 100% stable.... but now it is and Im very happy. My Generic RAM worked fine in my old board... but it didnt like this board.... If you have 2 sticks try each one indivdually that can easily be your problem.
