asus a7v133 ata100 IDE question

when u plug a device in the non ata100 slots, u have to enable dma mode in XP.
now when u plug em in the ata100 slots, are they auto dma enabled? cuz u cant set it manunally under device manager(or am i not seeing it? i just see the non ata slots)

i want more priority on my cdr which is at non ata100 primary slot.
my hardrive is at primary ata100
i had my dvdrom at secondary non ata, but when it reads data it laggs. like watching a movie on a burned cd, it gets choppy hardcore, even with dma enabled.
so i moved it to the ata100 secondary and its fine. bottomline: is dma enabled there already or?

all of the ide ports on the a7v133 are ata100 (including both the via and the promise controllers)

for optical drives (meaning cdroms, dvd, etc) you really shouldnt put them on the promise controller, its designed for harddrives only

well my question isnt about the ata100
i wanna know if DMA is auto enabled (in XP) when plugged in the IDE slot that isnt in device manager (the left side ones which are labeled on the board ata100)
u can only see secondary and primary on the 'normal' ide slots in device manager

and well my dvd rom runs alot better on the leftside (the ata100 side, the promise controler) ide slots so why not?

Well i do get some flaky stuff happening if u put my CD-rom drives on the promise controller...like dont get a fast DVD-rip time...and cd ripping time...if u have it one the promise controller..

Really? Are you sure about this? I never heard this before...

that's what i understand too, never put other than hard drive at raid controler.
but in some cases... if you find out that your dvd runs better at promise controller
than just ignore my comment.. you know your setup better than me.

I have the same setup w/ tbird1.4... i use only the primary and 2nd IDE and dissable the promise... i tried to install my cdrw at the promise and it makes the system unstable.
but once again you know the best setup for your computer.
