Hello,

First, let me say this has nothing to do with the ATA100 intialization.

I have had an Asus A7V and A7V133 now for about 2 years. I have been very happy with them both. I am not experiencing anything wrong, JUST WEIRD.

When I first boot up, my computer sits at the at mobo display screen (show ram, cpu speed etc) for about 1 minute or so!, then it does the RAM check, the promise driver set, load WinXP, ....

I know that the A7V133 has a longer than normal boot time because the ATA100 controller, but that is not the issue. My computer hangs for a minute BEFORE it even gets that far. It does it EVERY time.

Do you have any idea why this would START happening?

Important Specs:
Asus A7V133 Raid mobo (bios 1009 NOW, because thought that might fix it)
AMD XP 1900+ processor (not & never oc, not that I wouldn't mind doing it)
512MB SDRAM PC133 (3 sticks)
450Watt Enermax power supply
Windows XP

Thanks for any help you may be able to give.

Pictures are worth a thousand words, I hope:

No I am not, but I am not sure that is the problem. I have never used RAID, so I not sure why it would start. Does RAID configure before the memory?

Thanks for idea. I will look into it.

I checked and the raid 0 jumper is set to ATA100, which is what it is suppose to be.

Does anyone else have any idea why my system would hang like this?

Have you changed any memory settings whatsoever right before this problem started happening? Think hard, don't dismiss anything right away. Think of any kind of system settings you changed/tweaked just before. Otherwise, maybe try pulling out your dimms and air blowing any dust in and around the dimm sockets. Maybe they just need to be reseated or something.

I have not adjusted any system settings, but I did move some cables around inside my computer. So, maybe I did move a dimm or something. I will check the memory, blow some air on mobo, and check to see if anything else may be loose.

Thanks for your help. I'll let you know.

Ok, I physically check the interior of my computer. I removed all RAM modules and sprayed canned air over sockets. I check all IDE cables and connections. I checked all PCI/AGP cards to make sure properly seated. I check power supply connection, too. Everything looks in excellent order.

The behavior remains. Does anyone have any other ideas?

This may sound wierd but switch keyboards if you have an extra. Had a non-PS2 key (using adapter) and saw it slow and halt at the point you mention. The it booted and ran normally.

I will try anything realistic and swapping keyboards is about as "painless" as it gets. I will give it a try, when I get home. Thanks for the idea.

Please, feel free to continue and give me suggestions...

Also, check the RAID/ATA jumper configuration, because its wrong in the printed manual.
JP13 = 1-2
JP14 = 2-3
That's RAID

1) I have never used RAID.
2) RAID options at boot up have never appeared.
....

Thanks and I will double check it.

No response from Asus, yet.
