ASUS A7V266-E and Sound Blaster Live Problems.

Hello, I've searched the forums and couldn't find my particular problem, so I hope someone can help me out. I recently built a new system [specs below], and Win XP doesn't seem to detect the sound card no matter what I try. I've disabled the onboard sound in the BIOS successfully, and on boot up there is simply nothing detected. I can't install the newer Win XP drivers from Creative's site, because it says I have no SB Live hardware installed. I'll list my system specs below:

try removing the sound card (with the power off) and boot the system. Then run it and shut it down. Re-install the card and winxp should find it. If not? I would test the sound card in another PC to see if the card is dead.

I have one thing to say:

sb + via dont mix

It shouldn't be a VIA problem, since it uses a different southbridge.

If windows isn't detecting the hardware at all, try a different PCI slot.
If the drivers aren't installing properly, its not a surprise, Creative's XP drivers are horrid.

I guess he means it's not the well-known KT133/KT133A problem, or the equally well-known KT266 problem, since the A7V266-E uses the KT266A chip. Furthermore i agree that Creatives drivers are horrid.

But yet the same card and drivers are as good as gold on ANY intel chipset. Thats why I like Intel. No funny business, just stability. VIA? Its like a box of choclates...you never no whats go to cause your system to spontaneously reboot.

8233 suffers from many of the same issues which plagued (present tense as well) previous VIA south bridges. While the success rate with Live/Audigy on 8233 is better than, for example, 686B ... many, many people are still unable to get such a combination stable.

It looked (initially) like 8233 really had fixed these issues. But, as with previous VIA core logic, it took but a mere few weeks for the issues to start rolling out. 8233 is plagued with miserable IDE subsystem performance; PCI latency discrepancies and timing difficulties; bandwidth issues between 8233 and 8366A.

And, to add insult to misery for VIA, 8233A (the "new" south bridge, nothing more than 8233 with ATA/133 support) has already experienced several setbacks and delays. Problems have been discovered, particularly operating under Windows XP. Shuttle's forthcoming AK35GTR will not feature 8233A, as expected. Instead, it will continue to use the same old 8233. Soltek claims to be shipping -DRV4 with 8233A, but I won't believe it until I see it.

I have an SB Live value on my A7V133 (rev105, bios rev1007) and have not had any of the feared soundcard issues with either 98 or XP. I admit though that I'm tired of some of the other issues I've had (and am having).

For one, my internal zip drive has "timing issues" with the south bridge chipset that require a patch. Okay, fine and good since it ultimately worked, but xp has been a failure so far due to this.

Nope. I got KT133A w/ SB live! value, KT266A w/ SB live!, A few system KT133 w/ SB vibra...no probs.

Move the sound card to another slot try the bottom one i had the same problem with my linksys nic card windows xp did not see it but as soon as i switched slots found it no problem but im stilling have this lock up on restart problem and havent figured out what it is yet with the same mobo you have
