ASUS A7V8X - USB Controller detected over and over

Recently installed an ASUS A7V8X board, running the latest BIOS, all drivers loaded, including USB however looks like there is some other part of the USB subsystem for which windows XP does not seem to be able to load drivers.

This board has 6 USB ports. 4 on the back part of the ATX form factor and 2 connectors on the board for which I've connected USB connectors for the front of my case. Under DEvice manager I already show USB drivers as follows:

[+]Universal Serial Bus Controllers
|
|
|-----USB Root Hub
|-----USB Root Hub
|-----USB Root Hub
|-----Via Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller
|-----Via Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller
|-----Via Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller

Then of course, under other devices I show an "Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller" entry. Removing it and reloading it makes no difference as it cannot find drivers. I can assign/force a driver to it but don't want to choose the incorrect one, and this realy should not happen considering I've loaded the latest 4in1 drivers as well. Any ideas as to what this is pointing to? It's driving me nuts and worse to comes worse I'll just have to disable it but I'd like to try and fix it.

Thank you for any info you can provide. It's the first time I run into problems with something as simple as USB drivers.

Two things:
  • If you didn't install Service Pack 1 before installing the nForce driver pack, it may not work out without installing Windows, then SP1, and then the drivers after SP1 (not before). <--- doh, never mind this... I misread your board model number!
  • If you didn't get your front case wiring plugged into the board in the correct order, this could happen. Try shutting down, pulling the case wiring off the header and starting up again. If the problem is gone, your case wiring was not plugged in correctly.
Hope that helps

It sounds like the usb2 controller. The safest thing todo is to update your windows xp with the sp1, and then try to automaticly update the drivers afterwords. If you do not want to update to sp1. You can find usb2 drivers here: viaarena.com

Thanx for the heads up guys. I found some standalone USB 2.0 drivers for the VT8235 controller, but decided to go with the service pack which I had been avoiding since well, what can I say, my XP copy isnt exactly legit? but I found away around that and got SP1 loaded so now all my USB drivers are in place. it was indeed the USB 2.0 drivers that were missing.

Thanx again

See, another reason for staying with Win2K (although my Win2K licenses ARE in order, the pain of doing system upgrades and 'retiring' an XP license to relocate it to a new system is a ROYAL pain). Win Win2K, that is not an issue.

I have a corporate license so it's never really been a problem until now. This is the first issue I have with XP, all because of SP1. My Domain Controller does run Windows 2000 Advanced Server.
