Whats wrong with this picture?

Funny, I didn't.....just controlled the fan speed and it's not a problem! And I've built 3 systems around this board now......1 for myself and 2 for very happy other people. As stated before in this thread, exactly which other nForce Ultra board (top performer) has a fan that's any degree quieter? I've worked with this and two other and they are all comparable in noise. Beyond that, a 40mm Panasonic (Panaflo) costs all of $6. Now, as for Firewire, Asus has on their site explinations for not including this on this model and several others and sited that less than 15% of people reported that they utilized this option so they've begun excluding it on several models since add-in firewire cards can be bought so cheaply these days and most periph. come with SATA II/Firwire option including Ipod....Also, the board has been steadily going down in price and is available for $117 and up at online vendors.....

Endgame,
How did you control the fan speed on the northbridge?

Also, did yours come with the serial port connector and plate?

Running it through a Zalman Fan Controller along with my Panaflo 120mm's. Wondering/thinking about ordering a Pana 40mm to try though and seeing how quiet it is rather than using a fan controller for each system....

yes, received a serial port slot card.

Just confused because this is PC4000 and not PC3200 which this mobo normally support. And AMD64 Rev. E 3500+ is out of stock at monarch which is cheaper.

It's a matter of trial and error. If it won't boot, that means you have reached the max and have to reset you computer again.

Quick question fellas! I'm ordering this mobo to pair it up with the following and I would like to know if you guys detect any foreseeable compatibility issues that I'll run into.

Any suggestions of what I should swap out but keep it in the same price range? I also plan on keeping the stock cooling solution that comes with the 3800 box set, should I swap that out? Also, is the power supply I'm getting gonna be enough for this set up?

thanks in advance! ( I havent built a comp from scratch in quite a while so i'm out of loop!)

EDIT: To add newegg links for quicker reference.

Few things;

You could save some money going with Value ram of either Corsair or OCZ VX

Your power supply is the heart and soul of your system.....if it doesn't work right........neither will any of your system. Enermax is not bad persay, but, the Seasonic S12 430W would be a MUCH better choice IMHO. Better across the board lines and most efficeint power supply there is. Not to mention VERY quiet.

I would personally opt for a Seagate HD simply if nothing else for the 5 yr. warranty.

Just a question, but why a Newcastle when San Diego/Venice are out?

Have you considered ATI? an X800XL is an excellent value......

Those are all very good questions EndGame. I'm going to look into the Seasonic PSU and the Value RAM. I'll look into the Seagate HD as well.

Only reason I was going with the Newcastle was because that's what I found benchmarks for on Tom's hardware and the only thing I found in Newegg when I put in socket 939 as the search string.

What's the difference between the San Diego/Venice? And are they also socket 939 compat?

How do they compare with the Old Newcastle 3800?

Also forgot to ask, will I be able to find Timing: 2-2-2-5 in Corsair or OCZ value ram?

Yes, the newer Venice & San Diego are both S939. Venice has updated memory controller, SSE3 instructions and 512mb cache like Winchester. San diego has the same but 1mb cache. These are all available at monarch while I believe NewEgg only has Venice right now.

Not sure on the ram.......I only advised that because that's what most people here seem to like. I actually run 1gb Corsair XMS XLL 2-2-2-5 in all my systems.

How does the new Venice compare with the 3800 Newcastle? hehe im trying to find some bench marks to see how the new chips stack up, but i'm having a hard time. Do you know of a site with some posted stats?

thanks!

There's quite a few comparrison threads in the CPU/Overclock forum here and on other boards. I can tell you this though, IMHO it is well worth the little extra $$$$ to go for the newer core revision. If it were me, I'd go for the 3700+ San Diego. I have a 3500+ Venice and a 3700+ San Diego now as well as a Winnie 3200+ yet. The San Diego is the best of them and from what I've seen and read, the San Diego is about the nest dollar for dollar you can get right now. Oh, and yes, the San Diego will beat the pants off a Newcastle.

Ok, I'm pretty much to the end of my decision. One more question, is there any more factors involved if I told you I was NOT over clocking what so ever?

That's probably my issue with picking some of the more highend/expensive parts, I want better performance without me having to OC anything (I just don't have the time to learn and keep up with stuff any more)

I haven't been able to get a solid answer for this board...

How well does it overclock (specificlly venice core)?
Does it have a high HTT? (280+)
Does it provide the needed voltage to reach 2800ghz?

I have found NO reviews on this board, however, is the SLI version basicly the same?

I'd go with the Venice Baaru instead of Newcastle and Newegg has it. Check the model# or the Item# of the CPU and make sure that it has BPBOX at the end of it for the retail Venice or **BP or BP** for the OEM. You can do a safe overclocking by just increasing the FSB(HTT). If your going to get the Venice for your A8N-E, update us since I was planning to get this mobo also.

The first thing you will want to know is if this mobo will boot on Venice. I e-mailed Newegg and they said that they can't answer my question if 1003 is installed already. xpcgear told me that they(ASUS) used to put a sticker outside the box telling the bios version of the mobo. I may sound redundant to Endgame but for me, this is very important.
For you second and third question, you can download the mobo's manual on their website. You will see it on the bios portion of their manual. This is a very good mobo to overclock for not so OC fanatics, but not as good as DFI(but picky).
A8N-E and A8N-SLI the same? I don't think so. And dont attempt to download the bios of a different mobo and install it to a different one like A8N-E and A8N-SLI. It may be possible but who knows what will happen.

If I've read everything correctly, the 3800 San Diego combined with the a8n-e should boot up, BUT i'll just have to update the bios in the an8 in order for the mobo to recognize the CPU correctly? Is this correct?

I've looked at the 3500 venice, but since I had already set aside cash for the 3800 Newcastle, switching over to the 3700 san diego should not be so hard.

this is what my final rig should look like:

Does anybody know if you can use the Corsair 1GB kit (2x512) value select ram in dual channel mode in the Asus A8N-E?

In the manual it says you can't (only in 1 module or 4 module, but not two).

However, this might have been fixed in the bios update 1003?

Can anyone tell me if NAM and the nVidia IDE Software drivers work right for you on this mobo with the latest BIOS rev and nForce4 standalone kit--the 6.53 nForce4 standalone kit not earlier releases or what ships on the driver cd with the motherboard. If you are going OK in both of these respects, please indicate what brand/model of harddisk you are using and CDRW/DVD drive as well. I do not care if NCQ is working right or not...but you can tell me anyway I don't use NCQ as it benches slower anyway.

According to their new Bios update, they have the new compatibility with some memory modules. It doesn't say if you can use 1 or 4 but not 2. Endgame is much familiar with this since he sold two and kept one for himself.
