Anyone here know how to speak German? If so, here's a German forum where they're wondering the same thing as us- if a Premium version of the A8N-E is going to come out and when:

http://www.hardwareluxx.de/story.php?id=2004

If you know German, post on here to ask if anyone is going to CeBIT next week and have them pester an ASUS rep for info!!!

It's kind of funny- I used Google's translater- they're all bitching about the brown color of the PCB - they liked the black of the rev 1 picts released last fall. They call the brown "crap"!!

Hi all! I've been following this forum for a while and as well some others related to Asus NF4 Ultra-SLI boards.
Now I'm almost positive that AN8-E Premium preproduction board that was passively cooled will never emerge in retail. Seems that NF4 Ultras can't be successfully cooled with a passive heatsink. I can only hope that this new HSF pictured on the A8N-SLI Premuim won't be as noisy as that little monstre found on previous boards. Perhaps new revisions of all Asus NF4 boards will use this new HSF?
It is interesting that on Asus site they claim that A8N-SLI Premium is already available! I just hate when PR people make such false claims.

The Gigabyte GA-K8N Ultra-9 appears to be passively cooled whilst the Chaintech was, but then the later revisions were changed after a 'bad' review (reviewed O/C's to death the board then blamed the passive heatsink)

I agree though that I doubt we will see this board, the hype has been around a long time now and no fruits have come of it.....saying that though the SLI-Premium has only just come to light so maybe the A8N-E Premium may follow soon....

Yes, Gigabyte is passively cooled, also heatsink on this board is much smaller than one on the Chaintech. I agree that it is POSSIBLE to cool NF4 passively. Many people used Zalman heatsinks for this, but fact is that chips got VERY hot while passively cooled. If you have very good airflow in the case then it might work, but just a reminder current typical air temperature in room is 20-23 degrees (Celsius) I wonder what will happen in the summer with temperatures exceeding 35 degrees?
I think that good solution might be Zalman ZM-NB32J heatsink + some low speed 40mm fan. But that could pose some issues with long VGA cards or VGA coolers like Arctic Cooling. It would be best if Zalman created some low-profile low-noise active chipset cooler in their well know flower design.

Personally I have ditched Zalman, SilentX products are by far quieter. Unfortunately they have not got around to doing chipsets or graphics but I am sure it will not be long before they do.

Hi everybody,
i'm just a french guy who's interrested about the Asus A8N-E and i'm in a french forum who's talked about the A8N-E.
I'm not a egoist so i give you the URL where in first page you can see pictures of the differents A8N versions...

And when the A8N-E and A8N-E Premium version will be released first in your country tell me please, i would make similar for you.

Thx +++

NB: thank you for your indulgence for the spelling mistakes, i'm not bilingual yet ...

It's a bit funny that you say this, as all of the products (or nearly), are modified Zalman products. It looks to me that they just install their fan on it, probably with an in-line resistor to slow the fan down, and then sell it as theirs.

I've got some of their fans (SilenX), but I've heard a lot of people say bad things about SilenX, mainly because they state dBA numbers that are almost impossible to get. If you check out www.silentPCreview.com, and their forums, you will soon see that they have the same impression.

I was about to buy one of their power supplies (fanless), when a few e-mails to their support team told me that their "fanless" power supply still required 40CFM of airflow through the case in order to help cool the PSU. The Antec Phantom fanless PSU requires NO airflow, but states in the instructions that "other components in the case should be cooled with proper methods," as the PSU does not provide any airflow like a conventional PSU with fans.

Anyway, that's just my opinion. I'm not saying they are a bad company, but it may be hard to believe some of their numbers. SilentPCreview has yet to review any of their fans, so it seems to me that their assumptions are just that, until they actually review them...

I have to admit that the CPU coolers look like the Zalmans, i.e. the design, but the fins are wavey rather than straight so in the wavey design there is far more surface for the cooling process etc (plus the whole thing is bigger). I used to use Zalman fans with the resistor (as without they too were too noisy), but with the Silentx I can use it full speed and it is still quieter than the Zalman with the resister.

As for the power supply I dont know about the completely passive but the <14dB active ones are exactly as quoted. With my 80mm fans, CPU cooler and Sapphire Heat piped Radeon, plus of course the new power supply, I literally cannot hear my PC at all from 2m away.

Marky - I am about to buy the Mesh with the A8N-E I think. How noisy do you find it?

I havent bought from Mesh, I just noted that they are the only system builder in UK that is showing the A8N-E and A8NE-FM. I have mailed them numerous times now to try and get them to confirm if these boards have firewire as they advertise. Might be worth you giving them a ring before you commit....

I thought someone already said that they ordered a system from Mesh and got a A8N-SLI instead of the A8N-e?

I truely hope that the A8N-e is coming soon. The Premium is not even on my list anymore as it seems to be MIA.

I think I will be going for the gigabyte as soon as we confirm from someone that it is passive, and as soon as someone decides to sell it in the UK!!!

Man. CeBIT is taking forever to get here. I hope I can wait long enough to decide on my motherboard.

Anyone know of any web site that will be posting the latest from CeBIT 10-16 March? The only places I really know about are AnandTech, ExtremeTech, and Tom's Hardware.

CeBIT: the show readies to kick off, Taiwan sets new record

Vyacheslav Sobolev, DigiTimes.com, Hannover [Tuesday 8 March 2005]

Long acknowledged as the world?s leading technology tradeshow, CeBIT starts again this Thursday, March 10 in Hannover, Germany with the strongest ever attendance from Taiwan. According to preliminary data from organizers Deutsche Messe AG, 777 exhibitors will represent Taiwan this year, surpassing the 2004 record of 702 companies by more than 10%. Once again, and now for nearly a decade, Taiwan ranks as the number two exhibiting region after host Germany.

The world?s leading news agencies are already reporting from Hannover that an enthusiasm is returning to the industry, which is still thought to be able to generate stellar growth. After three slow years, CeBIT this year will welcome 6,270 exhibitors, up from 6,109 in 2004. After Germany and Taiwan, China has 310 exhibiting companies, the US 209, South Korea 202, Great Britain 193 and Hong Kong 176. For the first time, more than 1,600 companies have been registered directly from Asia and these companies will occupy about 39,000 square meters of floor space.

Around 480 Taiwan companies will demonstrate their solutions in so called ?theme pavilions? covering such areas as PCs and components, consumer electronics, digital imaging, industrial computers, fixed line and mobile communications, display technologies and storage devices and media. Totally there are 11 theme pavilions occupied by Taiwan companies this year. Deutsche Messe AG estimates that the net exhibition space reserved by Taiwan companies will exceed 20,000 square meters this year, up from last year?s 19,000 square meters and more than half of the space allocated to Asian companies.

The net exhibition space this year is up very slightly on last year, at over 316,00 square meters, Deutsche Messe AG reports. The organizers are expecting that the number of visitors will exceed 500,000 people.

I was in Mesh this am. It seems that Asus provides an OEM board. They ran out and so provided the SLI board but with only one raid controller. Firewire is not on the board, but since Mesh have said it is on the web site they are putting in a firewire pci card. I hope it won't be too noisy...........

Well, I found a place with the ASUS A8N-E boards... supposively.

www.partspc.com

Their reviews on resellerratings.com are not too good, most of the recent reviews are for unsatisfied customers. But if you consider most posts will be disatisfied customers, they may not be too bad. I emailed them, and got no answer. I called and got no answer. But on AIM, they responded immediately.

joshd2012: parts availability question
PartsPCService: ?
PartsPCService: whats the part are
joshd2012: Asus A8N-e Motherboard
joshd2012: you have it on your site, are they instock?
PartsPCService: let me see
PartsPCService: yes we havew
joshd2012: and you are sure it is the A8N-e motherboard, and not some variation like the A8N-SLI?
PartsPCService: yes we have
joshd2012: i see two links to the product, which one is the correct one?
PartsPCService: show me
PartsPCService: ?
joshd2012: http://www.partspc.com/store/motherboardasus.htm
joshd2012: one at $150.86 and one at $138.87
PartsPCService: it will be fix in 10 min
PartsPCService: please check after 10 min
joshd2012: thank you

Take that as you will. If you are looking for a A8N-e, this may be the only place to get it right now.
