Are you overclocking? if so,try to bring things to normal. If not,the most possible culprit
is ram issues or driver incompatiblity.I'm using 1008 bios and my 1.8@2.55 3000+ venice
is rock solid.upgrade your bios, set memory timing to spd and MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL
" give your ram more voltage;ie,2.9v is usually safe.

No overclocking. Planed use default while I'm installing everything and also get a stabel system before I try any overclocking.
I'll come back when I know which part number my memory have. I thought a variant of my memory was listed in the user manual but I'm not sure. brb

My memory model number is KVR400X64C3AK2, in the user manul KVR400X64C3A is supported. Shouldn't be any problem with that memory. Also my BIOS version is 1005. I'll check closer at the "blue screen" next time it heppends.

Hi:

I just finished building my A8n-e system. I have a 3200+ Venice and 2gb (4x512 Corsair memory). The memory is getting read as 333 Dual Channel. When I put 2 pieces in instead of 4 (1 in each of the blue slots) it gets read as 400 Dual Channel. The BIOS is 1008 and the nvidia driver set is 6.66. Running XP Pro. I've had nothing but problems so far. When I download anything, the file is corrupt. This includes running a Norton live update, downloading winzip, etc. I've tried both a SATA drive and an IDE drive. Also tried different ethernet cables. Next thing I'm going to try is going back to BIOS 1001 and earlier nvidia drivers. Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks

intersys: Some people have reported file corruption on downloads when Network access manager and nVidia firewall is installed. Uninstall NAM and you should be fine. I do not know about your memory issue, but I have read somewhere that there is an issue with filling up all 4 slots. But the 1008 bios should have sorted that out.

I have the 6.66 and sometimes get HDD device 0 paging errors on bootup, maybe 1 in 10. Today is the first time in 2 months that the system refused to boot and got stuck on the xp loading scroll bar screen. But then another reason could also be my manually changing the RAM timing from 2T to 1T 2 days ago. If it happens more frequently, I will change it back to 2T and see. Finally may have to go back to MS IDE drivers or disable ncq on the 6.66. (if nVidia does not release another updated set).

Anybody have any HDD benchmarks on MS vs nVidia IDE drivers?

Anyone else experiencing some shoddy onboard audio? I've been using this board for months now, and it suddenly starts throwing little bleeps of white noise into my audio. My chipset and audio drivers are up-to-date, as well as my winamp player. Any ideas?

Hello all, I just got all these new parts, including the A8N-E and can't get the beast to POST. I'm getting a series of beeps, but have a hard time telling what the combination is, because it's not really consistent and stops before I can get a fix on it.

Anyway, here's my setup:
Asus A8N-E (w/ Thermaltake Sonic Tower Passive Cooler)
Athlon64 3800+ X2
2x512MB Kingston Value RAM
ATI Radeon x800XL
WD 400GB SATA
Aerocool Turbine Power 550 PSU

I've heard it's possible that my BIOS may need to be flashed, because of support issues with the X2 procs, but I don't have any other AMD Chips that will work with this board (upgrading from my ancient K7 Athlon 750 Slot A).

I'd appreciate any help you all could provide.

Hey Shortbuskid (great name btw)

Have you tried taking the system down to it's bare minimum needed to POST and trying that? That really would be a hassle if you needed an older 939 CPU to flash with, although it may be the case.

Now I have taken a closer look at the "blue screen". It's not same blue screen as last time but I could read.
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Down the screen I could also read about a problem with driver NVTcp.sys, which is the network driver from NVIDA.
Is there any better driver I can change to?

Ah, thanks Craig...it's a name I use quite a bit throughout my life on the web.

As to your suggestion. I pulled it to bare bones. Only one stick of RAM (in B1, as per User Guide), GPU, PSU, CPU/Heatsink, HDD with Monitor and KB/Mouse plugged in. Still getting the beeps.

The beeps don't appear to change tones, so I don't think it's the Overheated CPU (high frequency beeps while running) or the CPU Not Seated Properly/Damaged (repeating High/Low) issue.

I double-checked to make sure the GPU was seated correctly (it was and is) and that the monitor is plugged in correctly. So, I don't think it's either of those.

The only other beep listed on BIOS Central is the Repeating (endless loop) which signifies a Memory Issue. While my memory product code is not listed as in the Mobo User Guide as a supported memory type (KVR400AK2/1GR) and the box for the RAM doesn't list the nForce4 Chipset, it is Dual Channel PC3200 DDR. I did try both sticks by themselves and that didn't help either.

I'm fresh out of ideas (besides the trying to post with a non-XP CPU).

Just to follow-up, I checked on Kingston's website for this particular RAM that I have and it lists this RAM as supported by the ASUS A8N-E, so it's not an issue of improper RAM for this Mobo.

I'm sure it's a stupid newbie question but should I/should I not use plastic/rubber washers between the mobo and the mobo plate?

Any advise is most welcome.

I don't have standoffs I have bumps on the plate.
Looked on asus support site but couldn't find any mention of washers nor standoffs.

Sidenote;
I have version 2.0 and there is some fan noise but it hardly bothers me.
My videocard fan and case fans makes more noise.

so is it sata ports 3 & 4 that are clock speed locked??

which one do i put my HD in if i want to O/C?

edit: i have this problem, whenever i change any bios settings and save them and then reboot, my HD seems to not want to boot into windows, I have to turn off the power supply and turn it back on, then boot before i can get back into windows (holding the power button and rebooting doesn't work).

what is wrong?

ok, count me in I just ordered one, here's my setup:

1 Retail A8N-E,
Thermalright XP90C 92mm Panaflo
Retail 4000+ SD,
1 gb OCZ PC 3200 EL rev.2 TCCD (2 X 512 mb)
BFG 6800GTOC with Zalman VF700-FS01
PC Power & Cooling 510 Deluxe
2X Maxtor DM 10 SATA 300GB HD (16MB Cache)
1X Maxtor DM 9 PATA 300GB HD (2MB Cache)
1X Seagate PATA 300GB HD (8MB Cache)

I really want to relace that hsf on the NB but still am undecided on which way to go. I may just replace the fan only. I would love to install a Thermalright NB-1C but the are discontinued and I fear fitment issues with stuff already.

I am on the A8N-E bandwagon now too.

My setup is as follows:

A8N-E
3500 Venice
OCZ Modstream 450W
2GB OCZ Gold (2x1GB)
Chaintech 7800GT
250GB Seagate 7200.8
Black CM Wavemaster
Thermalright XP-90 w/92 Stealth
BenQ DW1640

should be a bitchin' rig once I am done with her by this weekend.

Okay, so I'm a total retard (as if my handle didn't give it away). These modular PSU's can get a bit confusing, especially when the manufacturer puts NOTHING in the box in the way of a user guide or quick start guide.

So you look at the A8N-E and it has a 24 Pin Power (next to the IDE slots) and a 4 Pin Power connecter (above the CPU). My power adapter is modular, and as such, the only hardwired cable is a 20+4 connector. I was thinking the board was just giving me options to plug 20 in one and 4 in the other or 24 in the one. Aerocool (PSU manufacturer) told me on the phone that I should have a modular cable that had (1) 4-pin connector on one end and (1) 8-pin connector on the other. However, that's not actually the cable I had...had a single 8 on one end (to go into the PSU) and (2) 4 pins on the other end. This is what threw me off.

Anyway, got one of those four pin connectors in and it's now POSTing, booting, and XP is installing as I type. Now, let's hope everything else goes a bit smoother.

Thanks to all who tried to help me out!

It would help if you got one of those 20>24 pin adapters but then again that is a whole debatable issue which has its own sticky. Suffice to say I use an Antec TP 480 now with a 20>24 adapter. I had also used the system for a couple of weeks with only the 20 pin plugged in. No difference that I could make out either way. Currently with D3 and the like my system is more stressed than it was so maybe now it may make a difference, but I am not experimenting to find out.

It won't make a difference.. the extra 4 pins are there to provide the extra power if required.. although you'd have to be running a lot of stuff... My system according to what I've read, uses even less juice than my S754 system with a 3200+ and a 6800GT... so I'm personally not too concerned (I use the 20 pin ATX connector only, on my OCZ Modstream)
