Is 330w enough? Not that we can go on the wattage, the current the psu can supply seems to be an issue. Might need a bit more juice. Most responses I've read elsewhere seem to fixed by a decent psu. Strange thing is, I get the not receiving signal message on the monitor but when powered up It briefly goes dark as though its about to boot but then returns to the same message. Anyway, I'll have to wait and see what the man in shop says tomorrow !!

I unplugged all the unnecessary things. I know 330W is below the recommened amount, but I figured it should have been enough for just idling in the BIOS screen.

I really don't want to pay $100 for a new power supply if I'm not sure it's the problem.

I agree, you would think it would be more than enough, I only have graphics, cpu and memory plugged in but it seems these pc express boards are quite picky. If the guy in the shop tries a differant psu ( which he said he was going to) and it boots, then I'll buy it!
Can't you borrow one from a friend to try?

Only one of my friends has a PS that I would trust and I don't think I can get it from him til the weekend.

I'm really tempted to just order myself one of those 500W Seasonic power supplies right now. But if I buy it and it doesn't fix the problem, I'm probably going to murder someone.

Just a quick thought, does every thing appear to be powered up? I have all the fans running and green standby light is on but it just won't post. Unlike your board, this one has never booted.

Fans are on and I can hear the hard drives kicking up. The little light on the mobo is green

I don't know if this board can boot. I RMA'd my original board some time ago and installed this replacement one last night. It could be (and I'm hoping that this is the case) that my original mobo was the cause of the original problem, and that this mobo works just fine except that it's being finicky and doesn't like my PS.

I assembled a A8N-E two nights ago with a Seasonic S-12 330w, Venice 3200, 1gig Patriot XBL TCCD Ram, Gigabyte 6600 passive cooled, Hitachi 80gig SataII and it runs fine so far. This is a board from the AMD Tour, Sandra says Version 2.xx and currently has default bios (1001?). Using it to type this.

I also put the same PSU in another same system with Chaintech VNF4 Ultra and a Winny 3000 CPU and it worked ok.

Both systems are in Super Lanboy cases and are quiet with the 2 stock 120mm fans in the Antec cases. The Chaintech system is a little more quiet, slower fan speeds.

Seasonic does makes a good quality PSU but you may consider getting one with a little more power. While it may be running fine now you are pushing it's limits. Over time you may experience problems.

I got the same board three months ago at the AMD tour. It's been running smooth from the very first day of installation, extremely stable. Good luck with yours.

Sorry I haven't the time to read the whole thread and I have only found one review on the web which was very vague, but am I correct in saying this board has no firewire???

You would be correct. ASUS is also still trying to get the BIOS right after about 8 revs.

So flaky BIOS and no firewire. If I was to just set up a simple system without OCing, would I be okay or should I look at another board? Trying to save a buck and I am buying one of these for <$60 complete.

Flakey in respect to overclocking more than anything else. At stock, this is a good board from what I can tell. I built a machine around one about two months ago. Still running fine. The only thing that stumped me was a device that showed up in Device Manager that said "Unknown ACPI Device." What the hell that is, I don't know. I wasn't using Q-Fan or anything else ASUS proprietary, so even after rev. 1006 of the BIOS, the damn unknown device is still there. Given that, I got turned off to the board but I am really really picky and it just seemed weird. I don't like weird stuff showing up in Device Manager and I have no way of figuring it out. I used a Zalman NB47J on the board before I even booted it the first time--I know all too well about the failing MCP fans on ASUS boards (and this was a first rev fan that came on the board).

Just insert the MB Asus CD in the drive. It will locate and install the correct driver. It is a 'ATK0110 ACPI Utility', but what exactly it does, I have not the faintest idea.

I am pretty happy with my board I must say. I have not had any data corruption, it is rock solid and extremely fast and the NB fan in my case is still ok, since about 3 months.

Hi guys. I have a rather annoying problem with my A8N-E.

First, here's the setup:

Asus A8N-E Moederbord (BIOS 1009.001)
2Gb (2x1Gb Kingston module)
Sapphire X850PE XT
1x 74Gb WD Raptor (SATA)
2x 200Gb Maxtor DiamondMax (SATA)
1x NEC 3540 DVD/W
AMD 3500+
Cooler Master 550W voeding
ThermalTake Shark case (2 fans and a few blue leds)

For some reason the system shuts down hard. No error messages, no beeps, just a hard shutdown. I've replaced the board with another one, the original 400W PSU with the current 550W model. Updated all drivers, no change.

CPU temp is 43C
Mobo temp is 40Cish
Videocard is 70C at max (and it howls like a banshee)
Memory is fine (ran Mem86 for an entire night)
Checked all the cables

It's stable until I start playing a game. After a while it just shuts off.

Any ideas? Help!

Rarzie - it looks like a video card problem since it starts when doing 3D. Can you disable restart on errors? You will then get the BSOD which will describe why it is shutting down. Are your temps at idle or while playing? If at idle, seems a tad high.

The overclocking issue was resolved if you flash the BIOS in DOS and load default settings. This unsticks the HTT, which allows you to overclock any other issues.

The Unknown ACPI Device is the ACPI driver thats included in Asus AIBooster. You can download and install the driver without actually installing AIBooster, but it's included in the package.

Is AI Booster worth installing? I think Asus has a later version for download on their site. Currently I am not overclocking at all and need to read up a lot. I have simply tried the BIOS's default 3-10% options which seemed to work, but do not feel the need to overclock as such. I have not installed nTune either, just coolbits for the display drivers.

In my "Oher devices" section of device manager I get question mark/unknown hardware:

Ethernet Controller

and

Unknown device

demenion: have you installed the nForce drivers? That would make the Ethernet controller q mark go away. The unknown device is the ATK0110 ACPI utility, which will go away once you insert the MB CD.

Yes I have the nForce 6.66 drivers installed... I don't have the MB CD ( I bought the ChiefValue refurb ) I'm sure it's somewhere on the ASUS website. My PC seems to be running fine so it's not a big deal.

As I mentioned earlier, it's part of the AIBooster package. They don't make it available standalone, but you can just extract the drivers from AIBooster zip file.

While I don't have a 7800, I do have a 6600GT. The Zalman VF700 fits fine, but it looks liike if you were to use the a AC Silencer you might have some problems if you're a larger passive heatsink like the Zalman NB one. I remember seeing some people who modded their AC Silencer by cutting out a piece of the protective cover where the fan is.
