I've been using my a8n-e and venice 3000+ @ 300x8.5=2550 @ 1T from day one and I
think this board is a great one both in oc'ing and performance.I have no idea when I
see those frustrated by it.

I agree with pedramrezai. It's a great board. It's been rock stable from day one.

I see, thanks for the reply. So in effect it can change the bios settings from within windows? Then would it not be somewhat useful. e.g. I can leave my default settings in bios untouched as such since 60-80% of the time the PC is being used for work. And then when I need to play a hardware demanding game, then launch/use AI booster to overclock before starting the game? And exit it afterwards? Otherwise, everytime I would have to re-start, change the bios settings back and forth.

The only downside is that since work is not so hardware demanding (Word/e-mail/Internet), I have enabled cool n quiet. So I would have to first disable that for AI boost to work.

Hi guys. I am having stability issues with my pc, here it is

I just put together my new system. its a A64 3000+, BFG 6800GT, 1gig Corsair valueselect ddr400, Enermax EG495P 485w psu. using 2 older WD IDE HD's. the ide HD's and the 6800GT and corsair ram were not new, the HD's were from my old pc and my bro gave me his 6800gt when he got his new card. The ram i had been using for over 6 months. Only the motherboard, cpu and psu were new.

Everything went fine during the install and was stable until I ran 3dmark05 to. This is when the problems started. Everytime i tried to run it it would restart instantly just before the first test was about to start. I have tried run in single channel and double channel mode. I have set the ram to various different timings and tried 1T/2T with no luck. I even underclocked the ram to 333. The weird thing is that sometimes it would start the test and reboot during one of the runs. So i investigated the videocard and noticed that my idle temperature on the 6800gt was 70 degrees, during one of the runs i noticed it hit 90 degrees, so i thought this might be the problem. Then i installed the asus probe and recorded the voltage rails while I was running the benchmark and noticed that on idle the psu runs at 11.904v/5.026v/3.264v. During the stress test it would dip down to 11.712/5.025/3.248. At this point I looked into the psu so I removed the PCI-x cable from the psu and hooked it up to one of the molex connectors using the pci express adapters, to try to use a different rail. I started it up and ran the test and it completed the whole test and gave me 5095 points. for this run my bios was all at auto default settings and was only running 1 512mg stick of corsair ram. So to make sure if it was all ok I ran the test again right after and then halfway thru the test the thing rebooted again. my rails were at 11.82v/5.025v/3.250v when it rebooted. So I then reconnected the pci-x cable from the psu again and ran the test again. once again it completed the test, but then it would crash halfway thru the test the second time again.
If i switch between these 2 cables I am able to run the complete test but not the second run, Can someone explain to me why?

I want to mention that before running 3dmark05, i had run prime95 for 5 hours at 99% load and it ran it great. my 12v rail was fluctuating between 11.901v and 11.84v the whole time. I even ran aquamark and got 56000 points. So i thought it was 3dmark05, so i installed counterstrike source and sure enough it rebooted 5 minutes into playing so I know I have a problem somewhere. I have tried every possible settings imagineable, even overclocking:
When i ran prime95 for 5 hours my bios settings were: 2.4ghz at 1.45v,3xHT at 266mhz, 333 divider at 210mhz@2.85v dual channel, 2.5-3-3-8, 1T. It ran everything fine until i tried 3dmark05 and crashed. I tried a stick of my Corsair ballistix pc3200 ram and the same thing happened. cpu temp never went over 41 degrees the whole time.

I have tried bios 1005, 1007 and this morning i put the 1010 beta bios in and it still randomly reboots during 3dmark05. I don;t thing the high temps on the video card are the problem because it went thru a couple of 3dmark runs with no artifacts...maybe its the powersupply? is it supposed to dip that low during stress?

If anyone has any idea, I would really appreciate it.

Hi ! Sorry for my bad english.
I have Asus a8n-e, 2x 512mb samsung 400mhz ddr, 200gb WesterDigital SATA, club3d 7800gt.
And i have a few problems. the first is the file corruption problem, somebody mentioned wut do with it, i'll try it when i get back home eve. (uninstall NAM)
i turned off the nvidia firewall too.
The second problem is that my computer restarts randomly, blue screen than restart.
i run memtest 86 with my rams with my earlier config, and i run it yesterday for a few ours and it had no prob. the rams are in the the blue.
i'm using the 78.01 nvidia whql driver for the video card, no overclocking. i installed the nvidia drivers from the cd i got with the mb, but i'm gonna check it too at home, i think it can be the 6.66. and the last one is the bios version, i'm gonna check it to..
anyone got an idea in connection with my problems? check the rams with different program or try different nvidia and video card drivers?
i'm using avast antivirus, i turned it off in msconfig, maybe it didnt liked the nforce driver i dont know.
i have win xp with sp2 and updated well from the internet the repairs.

Any more than me have the
"DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" problem?

1 week ago I have seen this on a system based on a MSI motherboard (I think it was Intel chipset, fully integrated, but certeanly not nForce !). The situation was: I have 45 pieces identical pc, so I have made an image from WinXP, then cloning... After 1 week that 1 machine produced this same problem !!! I have no idea what's going on ... If I'll found out, I'll write it here ...

I have a big problem since 2 months: my videocard is sometimes working and sometimes not under WinXPSP2.

My system (NO overclocked at all!!!):
Asus A8N-E BIOS: 1.08 & 1.06, chipset driver: 6.65 & 6.66 winxp driver
Leadtek PX6600GT videocard, + 77.77 & 78.01 xp driver (nvidia & leadtek)
AMD Athlon 64 3GHz, Venice
2db sata Samsung
1 ide dvdrw
1GB ram
Philips PSC703 soundcard
400W psu: Chieftec GPS400-AA-101A
Samsung TFT monitor, Analog connection
+ TV with S-Video kabel
WinXPSP2 + all the security updates

Strange: the problem arises during the boot process !!! If it logons in windows the it works 'till the end of time' (no freezing, no problem at all). So it seem to me, that the problem is initializing the videocard driver !

If it doesn't work, there's 3 ways, sometimes:
- at boot time I can see the Winxp logo, but then no picture at all -> monitor goes stand by
- it logons into winxp, but my videocard driver will be 'VGAsave'
- the newest: there is the videocard in the device manager, and it says 'working fine', but on the 'Display properties' says: 'Default display - ' : no videocard driver

I have tried, but nothing worked:
- I removed all the not neccessary devices from the case (soundcard, hdd, dvdrw, etc)
- I had a Codegen 400W PSU, and some said perhaps it's the cause -> I switched to Chieftec
- virus-checking, spam-checking my whole pc

Strange: there was the first whole month when this config runs fine !!! Then the rest is a nightmare

What else to try? Anybody has such a problem ?

Thanks (and sorry for my bad english)

I have the same problem. I bought a refurb board back in June....

Sorry guys, I have first write, the I read So at least I'm not alone
Have your problem solved ???

By the way: I don't know if You have already seen this:
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=651&kind=1
Take a look at the v1.6 section " Improve compatibility problem with nVidia graphic card."

So it seems not just Asus have problem with their mobos
I can't believe this: nVidia creates the mobo chipset+driver, the videocard chipset+driver and they are not compatible !!!

Yes, the following seem to cause data corruption:
1. NAM
2. enabling ncq in IDE driver
3. IDE driver itself

Some people like the unofficial 6.67 nForce drivers, which seem to resolve the IDE issues, but I will wait till release from nVidia.

Working with the 1010-001 for a few days gave me the following results:
I was forced to install 6.66 due to ?other pci device in device manager.
Finally I am able to go over 300 HTT .in previous bioses you were taken back to 300
no matter what you entered beyond 300.a very welcome improvement.
oc'ing is great.taking my mainstream components to highend levels, very satissfied with
it cause I did not expect suck oc ability!

Hello.
I was wondering if anyone has 4x512 DDR400 ram sticks in their A8N-E?
Any problems with that configuration?
I have 2x512 and want to upgrade to 2 gig total.

What is NAM ?

nVidia's Network Access Manager and includes nVidia Active Armour and Firewall drivers. Supposed to take the load off the CPU, but somehow many people report problems with it, including download corruption, BSODs, etc. I tried it out for a few days, quite nice actually but prefer my old trusted Sygate firewall.

Bios 1008 is stable according to me. We have no idea what is improved with the Beta Bios because Asus has no release notes.

nForce 6.66 is doing a good job but make sure you don't install NAM and the nForce Firewall.

The easiest way for me to update the Bios is to put the bin file on a floppy then restart the computer and press 'Alt + F2. Done!

Apart for the initial problems that turned out to be a defective Mobo, i'm please with my A8N-E.
